Because the processing capacity of MS is relatively weak, to guarantee the smart antenna performance, its algorithm complexity of the smart antenna is very important. In the paper, we propose a low complex algorithm using the auxiliary pilot signals to estimate the channel parameter in the downlink. Via simulation, we evaluate the performance of SA with two elements in terms of the bit error rate (BER). The scheme can observably reduce the computation and the complexity of mobile station, such that only a linear filter is required in MS to detect the received signals. JT was extended to multi-user MIMO, i.e. MMO JT. It was assumed in all previous works that antennas both at BS and MS are uncorrelated, which is not the case in a real-life system. This paper focus on MIMO JT with correlated antennas both at BS and MS, but antenna pairs on BS and MS respectively are uncorrelated. Radiation pattern looks quasi-omnidirectional with the maximum gain limited to around 4 dBi. The proposed antenna can provide two separate impedance bandwidth of 450 MHz (about 17.5% centered at 2.575 GHz) and 1 GHz (about 18.5% centered at 5.4 GHz) with return loss S11 below -10 dB. It easily covers the required bandwidths for wireless local area network (WLAN). The dual-band antenna is simple in design, and the lengths of the antenna's larger and smaller strips can easily control the lower and higher resonant frequencies, respectively. The widths of the radiation elements are changed to get better impedance matching. Therefore, an accurate evaluation of the radiation pattern requires a proper modelling of the laptop housing effects. Due to the large laptop dimensions, this antenna-PC integrated approach leads to a minimum far field distance of at least 12 meters at the WLAN frequency bands. Such a large distance is not easily accommodated in indoor far-field measurement ranges. A near field measurement technique seems appropriate to solve the problem. This study reports 2.4/5.2 GHz laptop internal antenna housing effects on the far field radiation pattern. The full wave simulations are compared with measurement results obtained in UCLA near field spherical range. Among this class of media are the magnetic photonic and degenerate bandgap crystals. These periodic media have the concurrent characteristics of wave slow-down and impedance matching at their dielectric interface. The first allows for miniaturization, and the latter is equivalent to radiation efficiency. Overall these properties are a consequence of the anisotropic nature of the periodic media, allowing for internal phase shifting that leads to ray collimation for best aperture utilization. To a degree, they emulate zero index materials, and thus (planar) layers of the material serve the same purpose as a reflector dish. This important property of the MPA and DBE structures are discussed at the meeting. The main focus of this work is two-fold: 1. The realization (in terms of material availability and fabrication) of the proposed periodic media, and their theoretical and measured performance for antenna applications. Specifically, we will pursue feed arrangements, impedance matching and metallizations/printings for maximum aperture efficiency. 2. Introduction of a concept that allows for emulation of the anisotropic properties of MPA/DBE media using a novel coupled line printed approach. The superstrate consists of two closely located parallel grids of short dipoles and one grid of continuous wires in between the dipole grids. Also the situation when the wire grid is absent is studied. An analytical model based on the local field approach has been derived in order to extract the transmission and reflection responses of the superstrates. The responses have been compared with the results predicted by Ansoft-HFSS.
