However, they are not perfect, especially when working with a young patient, where ease and speed of procedure is important. Glass-ionomer materials, despite many desirable properties such as remineralization potential and ease of use, have limited evidence of long-term clinical efficacy. New materials are being developed that combine some of the features of composite and glass ionomer materials. One of them is Cention Forte (Ivoclar Vivadent), which belongs to the alkasite group. A 16-year-old patient, generally healthy, was admitted to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, UCS WUM. It was decided to start conservative treatment with a cavity in tooth 47 – I class according to Black, code 4 according to ICDAS II. The cavity was completely prepared and filled with Cention Forte. The “occlusal stamp” technique was used to restore the occlusal surface properly. The use of a new generation alkaside material in this clinical case was associated with a simple procedure. Material properties described in laboratory studies may be beneficial to the patient. However, adequate randomized clinical trials are needed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of the material.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"162 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115457963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pit and fissure sealing is highly efficient in caries prevention. New types of composite materials – self-adhesive and bulk fill materials – are interesting alternatives to standard resin-based sealants. Their specific features may contribute to the clinical success of the sealing procedure. The requirement for a successful procedure is an adequate seal of the material to prevent bacterial microleakage. Aim. The aim of this study is the laboratory evaluation of the degree of filling of fissures by the tested materials and the occurrence of gaps between the materials and enamel. Material and methods. Fissures of 15 permanent third molars were sealed with the following materials: Helioseal F (Ivoclar Vivadent), Vertise Flow (Kerr) and SDR (Dentsply Sirona) with XP Bond (Dentsply Sirona). The specimens were embedded in epoxy resin and cut. Images were taken using a scanning electron microscope. An evaluation of the degree of fissure filling and material adaptation was performed in a graphic software. Statistical analysis was performed. Results. A total of 22 samples were evaluated: 7 Helioseal F, 7 Vertise Flow and 8 SDR. SDR had the highest percentage of fissure filling depth (0.808), followed by Vertise Flow (0.614) and Helioseal F (0.602). The highest percentage of fissure fill area was characterized by SDR at 0.938, followed by Helioseal F at 0.872 and Vertise Flow at 0.799. No statistically significant differences were observed between the results. The percentage of inadequate material adaptation was 0 for SDR, 0.069 for Vertise Flow and 0.149 for Helioseal F. There was a statistically significant difference between Helioseal F and SDR material. Conclusions. The degree of fissure filling by all tested materials is comparable, while the degree of adaptation of the materials to the enamel surface is statistically different when comparing SDR to Helioseal F, in favor of SDR.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122748030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The process is extremely rare in permanent dentition. The aetiology of the process is not fully understood. Several theories have been proposed to explain the phenomenon of infraocclusion. Treatment of mild to moderate infraocclusion includes observation and restoration of occlusal height with a composite or ceramic onlay. If the process is more advanced, surgical and orthodontic intervention is indicated, with luxation and orthodontic extrusion. The aim of this paper is to present the long-term treatment outcome in a patient with a partially infraoccluded maxillary right first molar over a 10-year follow-up period. The patient, 12-year-old female with infraoccluded permanent molar tooth. Treatment: restore crown height with a composite onlay to bring it into the occlusal line.Findings at 1-month and 6-month follow-up included proper occlusal contacts and no signs of further submergence. The patient subsequently came in for a follow-up at 2 years, 5 years and 10 years post-treatment, when proper occlusal contacts were observed, too. In the light of the present case report, it is recommended to follow a conservative approach to the treatment of infraocclusion, to the extent possible.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"281 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122942860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The clinical symptoms are: erythematous, ulcers that appear over time, which may be painful and cause difficulty in food intake, secondary fungal and bacterial infections. Among the methods of treatment, we distinguish laser therapy, ozone therapy, cryotherapy and local treatment. The paper presents the case of a 12-year-old patient with B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, treated according to the AIEOP-BFM-ALL 2017 protocol, who developed oral mucositis IV°. Bleeding from wounds after laser therapy were noticed. Ozone therapy was applied. After 6 treatments significant lesion healing was observed. The use of ozone therapy in the case of necrotic-ulcerative lesions in the course of oral mucositis in a patient in the developmental age may lead to the healing of the lesions, which allows the continuation of antitumor therapy.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129701890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The overall prevalence of mesiodens in primary, mixed and young permanent dentition varies between 0.09 and 2.05%. However, occurrence of double mesiodentes in patient without any associated systemic conditions or syndromes is a rare phenomenon. This paper presents a report of nonsyndromic double mesiodentes in 3.5-year-old girl with positive family history of supernumerary teeth. Both of mesiodentes had conical shape. One of supernumerary tooth was partially erupted and caused mesial displacement of deciduous maxillary right incisor, root resorption of that tooth found on intraoral radiograph, as well as rotation of the germ of permanent incisor. While the other was impacted and inverted. Mesiodentes were surgically removed under general anaesthesia. The healing was uneventful. As the mesiodens is a single or multiple anomaly that a dental practitioner may come across, the paper discusses signs, complications and management of mesiodentes. It also emphasizes the importance of early detection and adequate management of single or double mesiodentes to minimize the future dental complication or malocclusion caused by this anomaly.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"157 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127365281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dental treatment remains a constant concern of children as well as adult patients. Adequate choice of sedation enables dentists to safely carry out medical procedures. Aim. To review current literature concerning anesthetic guidelines for sedation in a dental office. Material and methods. Articles from 3 databases were analyzed: PubMed/Medline, EMBASE and Cochrane Library, for current guidelines on sedation in dentistry. Results. The most current guidelines show that sedation can be applied to any patient in the event in which anxiety or pain prevents practitioners from safely performing medical procedures. In order for the patient to be qualified for treatment under sedation, he must undergo thorough health assessment and physical examination as well as evolution of the possibility of performing the procedure using minimal, moderate or deep sedation. The most common form of sedation applied in dentistry is oral or inhalation minimal sedation, which does not require the presence of an anesthesiologist during the procedure. Patients suffering from severe odontophobia can be successfully sedated with the use of intravenous drug infusions. However, such procedure requires assistance of a trained Anesthesia Care team specialized in life support. Conclusions. Current guidelines enable treating patients with various health conditions and with fear of dental treatment, using varying degrees of sedation. Thanks to trained medical personnel, the application of specific, procedures and an appropriately equipped dental office, sedation of adults as well as children is safe.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129865882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Asthma is the most common chronic condition of childhood. Patients with bronchial asthma are a high-risk group requiring constant and intensive dental prophylaxis and treatment as well as regular dental check-ups. They also require certain modifications of the management in order to minimize the risk of a disease exacerbation during dental treatment. Aim. The purpose of the article is to discuss dental therapeutic management in asthma patients in light of the latest research. Material and methods. Three databases PUBmed/Medline, EMBASE and Cochrane Library were searched through in terms of contemporary methods of dental treatment of an asthmatic patient. Results. In order to provide the best dental care and to avoid exacerbations during dental procedures to a patient with asthma, a dentist should cooperate with the patient’s attending physician. The elimination of pre-procedural stress using inhaled or oral sedation and knowledge of allergenic agents within dental anaesthetic substances and materials are crucial for successful treatment of the patient. Additionally, a professional fluoride prophylactic is recommended as a standard of care in patients at a high risk of caries. Conclusions. In light of recent research, intensive treatment and dental prevention is necessary in asthma patients as it may reduce symptoms and lead to the stabilization of the disease.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123443929","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This condition can be asomptymatic, it may be accidentally detected on radiographs. Among the treatment methods we distinct conservative, surgical and conservative-surgical procedures. This article presents the case of a 15-year old male patient. He was reported to endodontic treatment of tooth 22 with extensive periapical lesion. Intraoral examination showed a change in the colour of the tooth crown, negative reaction to ethyl chloride, palpable slight excessive growth around the root of the tooth 22 and positive Smreker’s test. The radiographic examination showed the presence of a large 11 x 10 mm diameter radiolucent lesion covering 2/3 of the root lenght of tooth 22. Antiseptic root canal treatment was used. Complete healing of the periapical lesion was observed after 9-months treatment. Conservative treatment of root cysts, especially in young patients, may lead to complete healing of the lesion, which will allow to avoid the need for surgery intervention or at least reduce its extent.","PeriodicalId":445226,"journal":{"name":"Nowa Stomatologia","volume":"414 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123047820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
