The article reviews the history, key drivers, and barriers to the adoption of ester-based insulating liquids, and critical topics specific to their use in power transformers, while emphasizing the role of ester liquids in reducing environmental risks and supporting the transition to safer, more-resilient power systems. The article discusses key benefits of using ester-based insulating liquids, including biodegradability, fire safety, and moisture tolerance, making these liquids well-suited for urban and ecologically sensitive environments.
