According to the different level of analysis, failure behavior analysis method can be divided into element failure behavior analysis method and system failure behavior analysis method. The formal reveals the variety failure mechanisms under the alone or coupled action of internal cause and external cause using coupling analysis method; the latter focuses on product failure performance law under the effect of variety failure mechanisms by means of failure propagation analysis or state analysis. This critical review from two aspects of element and system investigates and summarizes the current research status of failure behavior analysis method. The result shows that coupling analysis method has been mature at present, and there is plenty of supporting software for computer-aided analysis. Failure propagation analysis method consists of graph theory based method, Petri Net method and complex network method. But the above-mentioned methods are unilateral and isolated from each other. System failure behavior analysis method needs to synthetically use the current methods - coupling analysis, failure propagation analysis and state analysis method so that forms an analysis methodology which needs to clear the input and output of each method and improve the interface between application software. The comprehensive methodology that the failure behavior analysis follows will provide support to product reliability analysis and design improvement.","PeriodicalId":444815,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-2012 Beijing)","volume":"2005 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128822890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to the statistics data, they are the weakest among various power components in the DC-DC converter. With the increase of the running time, the performance degradation of electrolytic capacitors reflects in electrical parameters, mainly the Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) and capacitance. The best indicator of the output filter capacitor failure is the increase of ESR. And the output ripple voltage of the converter increases with respect to ESR. Monitoring the ESR variation of the electrolytic capacitor, achieving by voltage and current ripple, can estimate the health state of the converter.","PeriodicalId":444815,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-2012 Beijing)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127792893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By monitoring the fault evolution of the parts or components, the potential fault could be predicted, and the corresponding maintenance and support decisions could be deducted. PHM has transferred the traditional maintenance mode to the Condition-based Maintenance (CBM). In order to validate the availability and the effectiveness of the integrated maintenance and support system, the computer simulation method is widely used. The maintenance drive serves as the starting point of a new cycle of maintenance and support activity in the object-oriented simulation model. Traditional simulations based on the system failure rate or mean time between failures (MTBF) would not ensure an accurate result when PHM functions. This paper makes a discussion on that problem. The concept of fault evolution index (FEI) is put forth in the paper, and several intermittent FEI evolution models are given for simulation reference. In addition, the paper gives a detailed process of modeling and simulating the maintenance drive.","PeriodicalId":444815,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-2012 Beijing)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130437073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aiming at the situation that each fault is commonly associated with many tests in the dependency matrix of a system, the definition of an extend dependency matrix and its generation method based on structure information are proposed. The main steps of this method include establishing the structure information for a system, defining extend fault and test, analyzing the correlations between faults and tests which come from different structure, and generating an extend dependency matrix which is formed by three values in {0, 1, ×}. An airborne system is taken as an application example, and the result shows that extend dependency matrix can effectively reduce the number of tests monitored in fault diagnoses.","PeriodicalId":444815,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-2012 Beijing)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131063325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper stochastic process is used to describe the degradation process of products. For analyzing the accelerated degradation data, parametric statistical methods needs to assume the distribution function of parameter, and error will be caused if assuming a wrong distribution. To solve this problem non-parametric statistical method which is distribution free is proposed to analyze the accelerated degradation data to establish a suitable regression model by the data itself, and then obtain the mean time of products under normal condition. The optimal design of ADT is conducted with the objective that minimizing the mean square error (MSE) of the estimation of mean time of products under normal condition under the constraints of experimental cost. The optimal plan can provide variables including: stress levels, interval of performance inspection, sample size and number of inspection at each stress level. Finally a simulation example is used to illustrate the proposed ADT optimization design method.","PeriodicalId":444815,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-2012 Beijing)","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124179336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tiny defects of the gear are likely to occur after some amount of load cycles. This will lead to a huge economic loss if the tiny defects are not detected in time. Metal magnetic memory (MMM) technique can effectively find the early defects of ferromagnetic material and it has attracted great attentions. However, the mechanism of metal magnetic memory on ferromagnetic materials under loading and geomagnetic field has not been thoroughly addressed, and the studies on gear defects are rarely reported. This paper adopts the finite element analysis (FEA) software ANSYS to construct a defective gear model and the air around it. The contact-stress and magnetic flux leakage distribution is given through the stress-magnetization coupling model. The simulation results are in accord with the common MMM principle, which are helpful to the understanding of the stress-magnetization coupling mechanism and provide the gist for the further study of gears early defects detection based on MMM technique.","PeriodicalId":444815,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-2012 Beijing)","volume":"5 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123691839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its fault diagnosis benefits decision making of maintenance and avoids undesired downtime cost. Empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is a self-adaptive signal processing method, which has been applied in non linear and non stationary signal processing successfully. However, the EMD algorithm has its inherent drawbacks. Aiming at the problem of intrinsic mode function (IMF) criterion in the EMD, this paper introduces the mode mixing problem of EMD in Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT). In order to overcome the mode mixing problem in EMD, ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) is used. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method based on EEMD and hidden Markov mode (HMM) for gear fault diagnosis. First, a simulation signal is used to verify the advantages of EEMD comparing to EMD. Second, the new method is applied to the gear fault diagnosis. There are two patterns seeded faults in the experiment. One pattern is broken teeth, the other is cracks. The results show that the method can identify gear fault accurately and effectively.","PeriodicalId":444815,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the IEEE 2012 Prognostics and System Health Management Conference (PHM-2012 Beijing)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125085740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
