The tremendous evolution of ICTEs provides new pedagogical opportunities, making not only possible but simpler multimedia-based e-learning and distance learning with educational videos. Our learners in WIL evolve as engineers thanks to a Formative Work Situation in the company. Active pedagogy reinforces the ownership of knowledge, which is then put into practice at work to improve skills, but the key lever to overcome resistance to change is the support by a duo of tutors in the winning-trio. Thus, this proposal for Tutoring Integrated Learning (TIL) promotes the Continuous Education of the learner-tutors. Applying the same pedagogical approach (“learn by doing”), TIL is based on a Formative Tutoring Work Situation supported by distance self-training with videos for specific knowledge, then guidance by expert-tutors and debriefings in the team to improve their skills. The goal of the research presented in this article, is to examine the relation between the students' personality characteristics (as measured using the Big Five Personality Test) and their learning outcome in the context of four framed wiki-based learning activities. 368 university students participated in the studies. Meta-analysis of results indicates that learning gain was significant negatively correlated with one of the five basic personality dimensions, namely Extraversion. Also, agreeableness was significant positively correlated with learning gain. Moreover, conscientiousness and emotionally stability were significant positively correlated with logged wiki edits that students made in this activity. This type of fading conditions are characterized efficiently by the well known Nakagami-q or Hoyt distribution and the proposed analysis is carried out in the context of the area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve (AUC). Unlike the widely used probability of detection metric, the AUC is a single metric and has been shown to be rather capable of evaluating the performance of a detector in applications relating to cognitive radio, radar systems and biomédical engineering, among others. Based on this, novel analytic expressions are derived for the average AUC and its complementary metric, average CAUC, for both integer and fractional values of the involved time-bandwidth product. The derived expressions have a tractable algebraic representation which renders them convenient to handle both analytically and numerically. The advanced information and communication technologies together with several applications offer new perspectives, such as the so-called virtual university. Simultaneously, to gain market share, several organisational arrangements are emerging in the virtual university field, like consortia arrangements and joint venture initiatives between and among institutions and organisations. The dynamically changing social and economical environment where we live claims for new approaches to virtual and flexible university continuing and post-graduate education, such as the concept of Agile/Virtual University proposed by the authors. However, the implementation of this concept (and of other similar concepts) does not rely just on basic information and communication infrastructure, neither on dispersedly developed applications. Although absolutely necessary as support, the added value comes from the higher-level functions to support individualised learning projects. In its functioning it utilizes web-based technologies, but its design differs radically from currently popular E-Learning solutions which rely mostly on thin-client architecture. Our research proved that such architecture, while well suited for didactic content distribution systems is ill-suited for knowledge assessment products. \u0000 \u0000In our design we employed loosely-tied distributed system architecture, strict modularity, test and simulation-based knowledge and skill assessment and an our original communications package called Communication Abstraction Layer (ComAL), specifically designed to support communication functions of E-Learning systems in diverse network conditions (including offline environment). The system was tested in production environment on Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics, Technical University of Gdansk with great success, reducing staff workload and increasing efficiency of didactic process.
