Juni 2019 vollendete der emeritierte Universitätsprofessor Dr. Werner Bätzing das 70. Lebensjahr. Mit seinen epochalen Werken über die Alpen, seinem engagierten, geradezu missionarischen Eintreten für den Erhalt der alpinen Kulturlandschaft als intakter Lebensraum im Sinne einer nachhaltigen Regionalentwicklung ist er weit über die Fachwelt der deutschsprachigen Geographie hinaus bekannt geworden. Mit seinen teilweise auch populärwissenschaftlichen Publikationen (z. B. Wanderführern), seiner Präsenz in Presse und Fernsehen, seiner Politikberatungstätigkeit und als Kurator großer Landesausstellungen hat er eine Öffentlichkeitswirksamkeit erreicht, wie nur wenige Geographen unserer Zeit – zum Vorteil unserer Wissenschaft. Mit aller Leidenschaft hat er dabei einen integrativen Ansatz als Grundperspektive einer betont problemorientierten Regionalgeographie, einer Geographie als „großes Ganzes“, vertreten – entgegen dem Mainstream in dieser Disziplin mit ihrer zunehmenden Spezialisierung und Aufsplitterung","PeriodicalId":44373,"journal":{"name":"Mitteilungen Der Osterreichischen Geographischen Gesellschaft","volume":"61 1","pages":"407-413"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72881568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"Typology of Tourist Resorts in Croatia: The Case of South Dalmatia","authors":"I. Šulc, V. Opačić","doi":"10.1553/MOEGG157S229","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1553/MOEGG157S229","url":null,"abstract":"The main goal of the research is to apply the typology of tourist resorts based on the level of tourism development to the example of South Dalmatia, the southernmost littoral part of Croatia. The research is based on the methodological instruments of geographical analysis and synthesis and includes analysis of statistical data, GIS analysis and visualisation of spatial data in GIS using thematic maps. The typology was formed using the following indicators on the level of settlements: (1) number of tourist beds, (2) number of tourist arrivals, (3) number of overnight stays, (4) co-efficient of tourism functionality (number of tourist arrivals per 100 inhabitants), (5) density of tourist beds (number of tourist beds per square kilometre), (6) density of tourist arrivals (number of tourist arrivals per square kilometre), (7) tourist class assigned to the tourist resort according to a Croatian regulation that categorises basic tourist resorts into four classes using quantitative and qualitative criteria to determine the level of the sojourn tax and the possibility of founding a tourist board. To achieve the final typology, every indicator was scored for every tourist resort. The typology confirms the uneven spatial distribution of tourism development in South Dalmatia with its focus on the Dubrovnik urban region. The higher level of tourism development is concentrated almost exclusively on the coastal resorts, while the interior is characterised by sporadic and low tourism development. However, even in areas with a lower level of tourism development, some settlements – small ones particularly – are highly dependent on tourism and, therefore, characterised by high pressure of tourism on the physical and social environment. The typology resulted in determining a certain number of first- and second-level tourist resorts, tourist centres that are carriers of tourism development in South Dalmatia, and a large number of small settlements with a simpler tourism supply, although more or less oriented to tourism. Therefore, the typology can be treated as a first step towards a functional tourism regionalisation of South Dalmatia forming functionally complete tourism units that have a quality tourism supply and that are capable of successful management of tourism development and tourism impacts, which is now partly present only in leading tourist destinations.","PeriodicalId":44373,"journal":{"name":"Mitteilungen Der Osterreichischen Geographischen Gesellschaft","volume":"90 1","pages":"229-252"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2015-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90342014","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use micro-level data about creative industry firms that give the exact location of these firms in addition to other characteristics. This allows for the application of point pattern and of count data analyses. The empirical investigation shows that despite of the country’s heritage as a transition economy, creative industries in Slovakia behave very similarly to those in other countries and confirm the main hypotheses of the literature. The firms are strongly concentrated in the larger cities, particularly in Bratislava. This concentration differs between sector categories, with business services showing the most concentrated pattern. As far as the evolution of the pattern is concerned, new firms show a significantly less concentrated spatial pattern than the older firms. Nevertheless, the pattern is still concentrated in the larger cities.","PeriodicalId":44373,"journal":{"name":"Mitteilungen Der Osterreichischen Geographischen Gesellschaft","volume":"18 1","pages":"195-219"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2014-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81536676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In diesem Fachbereich steht als Lehr- und Lernmittel eine ganze Palette kartographischer Produkte, darunter auch Atlas-Informationssysteme (AIS) zur Verfugung. Es wird davon ausgegangen, dass es Vorlieben hinsichtlich der Herangehensweise, Aufnahme und mentalen Verarbeitung neuer Information sowie einen unterschiedlichen Aktivitatsgrad bei der Informationssuche gibt. Aus diesen Praferenzen konnen Lerntypen und Lernstile erkannt und definiert werden. Diese Differenzierungen wie auch mediale Vorteile eines PC-Unterrichts- oder PC-Lernplatzes dienen als Grundlage bei der Vorbereitung und Darbietung von Stoffinhalten in einem AIS. Mit dem Einsatz eines Interaktiven und Multimedialen Kartographischen Atlas- Informationssystems (IMAIS) kann zwar keine vollstandige Individualisierung der Informationsprasentation, aber eine an Benutzergruppen angepasste Informationsvermittlung ermoglicht werden. Ziel diese Artikels ist es, ein Konzept vorzustellen, das zeigt, wie ein IMAIS als Lehrmittel unter Berucksichtigung der Lern- und Wiederholungsphasen aufgebaut werden kann, mit besonderer Rucksicht auf die Anpassung des Systems an unterschiedliche Benutzergruppen. Die methodischen Grundlagen bei der Konzeptvorstellung werden durch Beispiele unterstutzt. ... User-adapted Interactive and Multimedia-based Cartographic Information Systems (IMAIS) as tools for geographic education In the history of geographic teaching teachers always sought for new and better utilities and possibilities to assist and accelerate the students’ knowledge acquisition as well as to keep and engross the acquired knowledge. In this field of activity a variety of cartographic products is available as teaching materials, including Atlas Information Systems (AIS). It is assumed that students have varying preferences on how to approach, receive and process new information and that they spend varying amounts of activity for finding new information. By analysing these preferences it is possible to derive learning styles and different types of learners. These differences and the medium-specific advantages of using computers as educational aids are the basis for preparing and presenting information in AIS. Although using Interactive and Multimedia-based Atlas Information Systems (IMAIS) cannot totally individualise the way information is presented, it allows for user group adaptive information dissemination. The objective of this paper is to present a concept for an IMAIS designed for teaching, which accounts for learning and recapitulation phases and especially for user-group adaptation. The methodological principles of the concept are described and subsequently illustrated by the use of examples.","PeriodicalId":44373,"journal":{"name":"Mitteilungen Der Osterreichischen Geographischen Gesellschaft","volume":"102 1","pages":"273-290"},"PeriodicalIF":0.1,"publicationDate":"2011-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72577880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"社会学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
