By modifying the initial conditions and parameters in the algorithms, both algorithms have been successfully applied in real time to process real neonatal ECGs with various noise levels. The accuracy and the precision of both algorithms were examined by comparing the result with manual readings done by a cardiologist. The model has some scenarios of finding available resource adopted from fault tolerance concepts to preserve the system and resumes its critical service when damage occurred as soon as possible. The fault tolerance is discussed in different perspective. The Z Notation is used to specify the model as it provides a succinct and unambiguous way of specifying services. The specification is mathematically-based and state-based system. It is expected that a basis for decision support can be created based on this specification. In University Malaysia Pahang (UMP), due to the nature of the buildings, split units air-conditioning systems are used in the faculty office blocks and the lecture halls. It is found that a major portion of the energy consumed came from the lecture hall buildings. The appliances are running on a fixed setting throughout the day, and are sometimes turned on when they should be off. This contributes to energy wastage. The energy wasted can be reduced by controlling the appliances and system using a control system while maintaining a comfortable and safe environment in the building. This paper presents a preliminary study on energy wastage in a UMP lecture hall. In this case study, a data logger is installed to collect data for further analysis on energy consumption in the hall. DVR can compensate the voltage sag problem as well as increase the optimization of the distribution to overcome the harmonic distortion during mitigation process. In this study, the DVR system is simulated using PSCAD software. This device will be connected in series to the problem circuit and calculation for voltage sag and voltage injection by DVR system are described. The variable that are considered to obtain an optimum performance of the DVR are various value of voltage supply, capacitor values and the MVA transformer rating. The results show that optimum values of this variable are necessary to obtain the best DVR performance. This paper studies the ionospheric error on transionospheric signal propagation from satellite to ground paths using readily available GPS satellites utilizing Jones 3-D ray-tracing. The ionospheric delay or advance is obtained from the difference between the distance of the ray path to the receiver from the satellite determined from the ray-tracing and the distance for propagation over the line of sight (LOS) at the velocity of light in vacuum. The residual range error (RRE), that is the difference between the standard dual frequency models corrected range and LOS, is calculated. Results show that the RRE of group value is different from RRE of phase advance. The higher order term in total electron content (TEC) calculation that relates to the refractive index is normally neglected due to its small value, but the results of ray-tracing clearly show that it does have some effects. Accurate quantification and interpretation of their physical characters using sounding technologies are quite difficult, especially in the Antarctic environment due to difficulties of the remote location and maintenance cost. This paper presents a method for deriving atmospheric PWV from ground-based GPS sensing technique. Methods for calculating the Zenith Tropospheric Delay (ZTD), Zenith Hydrostatic Delay (ZHD), Zenith Wet Delay (ZWD) and PWV are given. The Modified Hopfield model with an improvement is used to calculate ZTD, the Saastamoinen model is used to calculate ZHD and the Niell hydrostatic mapping function is used to map the ZTD to the individual satellite view. Scott Base (SBA), Casey (CAS1) and Syowa (SYOG) stations in Antarctica were taken as the observation sites. For the analysis, both GPS and surface meteorological (MET) data over the period of 2003 are presented. Before calculating the PWV, we firstly validate the ZTD determination and compared with the ZTD reference estimated from Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE) Analysis Center. After that ZWD are converted into PWV using surface temperature measured at the site. Good results are achieved for ZTD validation at all stations. From statistical results found that the PWV content were below 10 mm (on average), which are all within 1~2 mm accuracy and showed that climate changes could be monitored through trends in the water vapour time series. It is considered as the back bone prior to further power system analysis, operation and planning. There have been various ready made products for power flow study packages in the market. Nonetheless, any attempts to solve power flow solution utilizing new developed algorithm or techniques can be considered as a brave trial. This paper proposes the Evolutionary Programming (EP) optimization technique to address the power flow problems through optimization technique. EP is based on the survivors of the fittest technique; where it is a sub-division of evolutionary computation (EC) under the hierarchy of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Its capability in solving multi-variables, non- convex, non-linear and/or single or mufti-objective optimization problems have been highlighted as the strength of EP. In realizing the effectiveness of EP in solving power problems, standard test system was utilized to ensure its workability in solving non-linear equations involving several pre-determined equality and inequality constraints equations. Digital storage oscilloscope (DSO) is a device used by engineers, scientist or engineering students to verify or check the electronic circuit operation where the displayed signal in the DSO monitor can be analyzed and saved for future reference. DSO uses an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to convert the electrical voltage or current being measured into digital form at certain sampling time. The sample of the signal will be saved and accumulated until it able to describe a waveform and reassembles the waveform for viewing in on the monitor screen. The purpose of the research is to design the PC-based 4-channel oscilloscope where the electrical signal being measured will be displayed on the PC (personal computer) monitor equipped with functionality button shown in term of Window based GUI (graphical user interface). The GUI is developed by using Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. The PIC (peripheral interface controller) is used for data acquisition which transfers the data being measured to PC through RS232. Here 4 built-in ADCs are used in order to produce 4 channels Oscilloscope. The PIC is programmed by using C language to read the data from ADC and then transfer the data to PC. Frequency of 5 kHz is used as a sampling rate. Meanwhile, the clock speed of 20 MHz is selected in order to reduce the power consumption and noise. In addition, 8 Kbytes RAM chip is used for storing purpose. The research outcome shows 3 types of waveforms such as Sinusoidal, Square and Triangular are displayed with the correct frequency and amplitude. It is tested by using signal generator as an input to produce the waveform to the hardware. The integration between hardware (PIC) and software (GUI) is fully working. Beside that, the GUI is very user friendly and easy to be configured. The gyroscopic effect and mass imbalance inherited in the system are proportional to the rotor speed in which these nonlinearities cause high system instability as the rotational speed increases. In order to synthesize a robust controller that can stabilize the system under a wide range of rotational speed, the dynamic AMB model is transformed into a deterministic model to form a class of uncertain system. Then, based on Sliding Mode Control (SMC) theory and Lyapunov method, a new robust controller that stabilizes the system is proposed wherein the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) is used to design the sliding surface. Under this control, the reaching condition is guaranteed and the closed loop system is stable. This issue plays an important role in the development of long range RFID systems especially the passive RFID system. Rectifiers are the key components in power rectification and efficiency of any RFDD system. This paper concentrates in investigating this major issue. Therefore, to tackle the major problem that affects the efficiency of RFID system, this study proposed Schottky barrier diode model in standard CMOS fabrication process. The proposed SBD provides good power conversion rate and switching properties. In order to reduce the series resistance of Schottky contact, interdigitating fingers of Schottky diode layout has been adopted. The parameters of Schottky barrier diode such as saturation current, series resistance, junction capacitance, breakdown voltage and Schottky barrier height have also been optimized.
