These drivers are accompanied with challenging risks. Market authorities monitor activities in order to reduce to the barest minimum the adverse impacts some products and services have on the whole financial system. This indicates the need for a high quality monitoring and surveillance system. This paper examines financial markets as service systems that jointly create value to stakeholders. It proposes a framework for the design of financial market monitoring system based on the concept of service dominant logic, service science and systems thinking. Finally, it identifies a number of properties that need to be examined in financial markets service systems.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130401225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our earlier work, which builds on interviews with enterprise architects, suggests that communication breakdowns act as an intermediary variable between cultural diversity and transformation struggles. This paper discusses to what extent earlier work can be grounded in existing literature. On the one hand, we find support for most of the factors found in earlier work. However, on the other hand, some of our results cannot be grounded in the existing body of knowledge. For instance, our finding that over-communication leads to transformation struggle is not underlined by literature. Finally, we discuss the implications of this paper for our own research and for future research in general.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130334634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The approach does not depend on any particular modeling language which is achieved by treating conceptual models as labeled graphs. Consequently, we use pattern matching techniques known from algorithmic graph theory - sub graph isomorphism and sub graph homeomorphism. In general, algorithms solving these problems can be computationally expensive. However, special properties of conceptual models such as low tree width and planarity can be exploited to keep computational complexity manageable. This makes pattern matching applicable even to large models typically used in large companies or corporate groups. We introduce a high-level meta algorithm checking structural properties of input models and patterns to decide which low-level pattern matching algorithm will likely deliver search results quickest.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134592305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, when analysing human work, we must take into consideration not only the actions of individuals but also who is involved, what are their motives and goals, which rules apply in the context, what tools are used and the community in a minimum space where the work occurs. We call this minimum space an activity and can represented in a diagram called Activity Diagram. This theory also helps to understand the causes of every day organization problems, called contradictions in Activity Theory parlance. It appears that there is a lack of current methodologies that address the question of how to resolve the contradictions and how is assists in transforming an organization. This paper proposes a framework of how analysis contradictions within an organization, using Activity Diagram and DEMO.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122224772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Business transaction models prescribe the design freedom restrictions for producing a new service or product, and are useful to share a common understanding between the stakeholders. The contemporary advances such as the DEMO theory and methodology present strong foundations to describe the business transaction model dynamics. Still, the models itself, do not guarantee that the business actors perform them accordingly during operation. The business rules are a coherent and consistent set of actionable directives intended to steer the enterprise operation. In this scope, we explain and simulate a decision-making process, using Markov decision processes, to elicit the business rules that optimize the value function of the business transactions operation. A preliminary experiment of producing and selling goods is used to illustrate the approach.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123924563","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The most prominent example of an HFT environment is within equity trading, where many millions of trades are achieved at a high volume to gain a reasonable cumulative profit. Such environments rely on low latency/high performance technologies to allow trades to react in a timely manner to market volatility. However, sometimes the volatility of the market goes beyond what supporting infrastructure can allow, resulting in erroneous behaviour of the marketplace. In this paper we tackle the problem of managing market volatility to limit erroneous market behaviour. Our approach is unique in that it is non-dependent on the trading environment itself and self-regulates based only on trading frequency and contention. We demonstrate our results and show that by managing trade injection rates and contention of shared state the volatility of HFT environments can be managed appropriately and in an automated manner.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127871454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mayer, Lucas Louca","doi":"10.1109/CBI.2013.35","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CBI.2013.35","url":null,"abstract":"Multi-sourcing is a common procurement practice, especially for key products with low total costs because of risk considerations. In this context often split award auctions are applied. We develop two different descending split award auctions where the auctioneer buys a bundle of four different products. Each of the items is bought through two lots each with different sizes to different bidders. Firstly, we set up these auction formats in an iterative setting and find that the communication complexity differs significantly. One format is the Reverse Combinatorial Clock (RCC) auction. Combinatorial auctions have been suggested as a mean to raise efficiency in multi-item negotiations with complementarities among goods as they can be found in procurement, energy markets, transportation and the sale of spectrum auctions. The second format is the simultaneous Yankee auction (SY) which is a variation of the simultaneous multi-round auction (SMRA). We perform simulations in different treatments and find out that the RCC results in a better efficiency and auctioneer costs in most cases, especially using a combination of straight forward and power set bidding strategies. We conclude, that even in environments with complementarities an efficient bidding language using the right auction format and rules, as the configuration of our SY auction, can result in almost as efficient outcomes as a combinatorial auction with the advantage of being computational tractable.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"130 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124244781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the question of how to form an effective team is of increasing interest. In this paper we use the team-oriented multiplayer online game Dota 2 to study cooperation within teams and the success of teams. Making use of game log data, we choose a statistical approach to identify factors that increase the chance of a team to win. The factors that we analyze are related to the roles that players can take within the game, the experiences of the players and friendship ties within a team. Our results show that such data can be used to infer social behavior patterns.","PeriodicalId":443410,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 15th Conference on Business Informatics","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129527762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
