To achieve this goal, a voltage selector “SS” and two flyback converters were interleaved with a special arrangement of four transformers. The motivation is because in AC-DC converters with universal input voltage, efficiency is degraded for the lowest voltage (110 V). This occur due to the fact that the current flow through the devices is twice as high as the higher voltage (220 V). In summary, the proposed converters have the following characteristics: high power factor at 110 V and 220 V; high frequency isolation that allows weight and volume reduction, similar efficiency in both input voltages and division of voltage and current efforts in the devices. In this version of the paper, the simulation results for output power of 1 kW, input voltages of 110 V/ and 220 V and output voltage of 250 V, are presented.","PeriodicalId":442384,"journal":{"name":"2021 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122285129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Commonly, hierarchical control strategies and conventional state machines are used for power-sharing and nanogrid management. However, these strategies are complex and no very flexible. In this paper, a dc bus signaling (DBS) strategy is used to relate an internal price concept to power management. This allows managing the nanogrid according to an economic market idea. This simplifies the state machine's design because is defined for the power elements, operation modes to sell or buy energy - in response to the price. This control strategy is called Price-Based Power Management (PBPM) and uses the DBS to define when energy lacks, or surplus occurs in the nanogrid. To corroborate this proposal, the PBPM algorithm is implemented in a Texas Instruments DPS F28379S, and Typhoon-HIL 602+ is used to carry out the real-time domain emulation results.","PeriodicalId":442384,"journal":{"name":"2021 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132155071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to evaluate the use of the converter to control the generator field voltage and regulate the system terminal voltages. A standalone generation system is considered, where the converter dc bus is supplied by a battery energy storage system (BESS) or photovoltaic (PV) panels set. The control structure is composed of two loops, the external one controls the terminal voltage and generates the reference for the internal one, which controls the field voltage, responsible for the SG excitation. Simulation results show the suitable performance of the excitation system under output disturbances.","PeriodicalId":442384,"journal":{"name":"2021 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"2017 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130254150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This limitation creates the challenge of trying to work at maximum power for as long as possible to maximize the profit and reduce the payback time. One of the solutions for this is to increase the plant DC/AC ratio (PV array oversizing). Nevertheless, increasing the DC/AC ratio also generates losses on power production when the total power of the PV modules cannot be handled by the inverters. Power clipping by the PV inverter limiting the power of PV modules is a cause of losses in oversized PV arrays, and this fact can have a higher impact when bifacial modules are used. This paper analyzes the level of clipping and the benefits of PV array oversizing in distributed generation PV power plants with different DC/AC ratios with monofacial and bifacial modules. The System Advisor Model (SAM) is used for simulations with a scenario in Minas Gerais-Brazil. The results show that bifacial modules have a higher influence on clipping losses in comparison with monofacial ones. However, bifacial modules provide more energy production. Therefore, this analysis is important for finding the best DC/AC ratio for bifacial PV arrays.","PeriodicalId":442384,"journal":{"name":"2021 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125232448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, they are usually designed for three-phase systems employing control strategies in dq-rotating reference frame. As a result, proportional-integrator controllers are used. However, they are not suited when the system has abnormal conditions. Moreover, with the high penetration of distribution generators, single-phase distribution voltage is being deteriorated. This paper presents a control strategy based on frequency response for a single-phase full bridge series active filter. The series active filter is controlled in voltage mode through a digital lead-lag controller. The controller parameters are obtained by frequency response technique using the k-factor methodology and later discretized via Backward-Euler approximation. The series active filter is tested in a system with nonlinear loads, distortions at the distribution voltage and under disturbance at the DC-link. The proposal was verified under simulation results and under Hardware-in-Loop Typhoon HIL402 with external microcontroller TMS320F28335. Results showed the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.","PeriodicalId":442384,"journal":{"name":"2021 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128831672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This structure, in DCM, presents pulsed-input current with peak values that naturally follow the input voltage shape, even without current control. The main components of this current are at the fundamental frequency, third harmonic, and switching frequency. The third harmonic component is the main cause of the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in this operating mode. This article approaches the injection of a second harmonic component into the Boost inductor current to reduce the third harmonic of the input current and, consequently, to decrease the THD. The technique is simple to implement and it does not use any current sensor. The injected component is generated from the output voltage ripple, that is, without the need for synchronization nor synthetization of the injected signal in the control. Simulation results show a THD reduction from 29.6% to 2.2%, which can qualify the Boost Rectifier in DCM to be used in low power applications with more rigorous standards.","PeriodicalId":442384,"journal":{"name":"2021 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131298685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such scenarios are characterized as weak grids due to their isolated nature and the presence of heavy motor loads. Thereby, harmonic compensation may play an important role in increasing power quality indexes. Thus, different strategies (i.e., sinusoidal current and resistive load synthesis) are com-pared, varying between injection, absorption and compensation targets. Such functionalities are fully performed by active front-end converters embedded in energy storage system since the bidirectional power exchange is possible; or partially performed by wind-based system, variable frequency drive and active power filter. The strategies are analyzed in terms of damping capacity through the frequency response, voltage distortion caused at the point of the converter connection, total demand distortion for the source current, and power factor at the terminals of the generators.","PeriodicalId":442384,"journal":{"name":"2021 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference (COBEP)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115388704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
