An AC-DC Converter with PFC and Similar Efficiency in 110 V/220 V AC Input Voltages
In this paper, an AC-DC converter with similar efficiency at 110 V and 220 V AC input voltages (60 Hz) is proposed. To achieve this goal, a voltage selector “SS” and two flyback converters were interleaved with a special arrangement of four transformers. The motivation is because in AC-DC converters with universal input voltage, efficiency is degraded for the lowest voltage (110 V). This occur due to the fact that the current flow through the devices is twice as high as the higher voltage (220 V). In summary, the proposed converters have the following characteristics: high power factor at 110 V and 220 V; high frequency isolation that allows weight and volume reduction, similar efficiency in both input voltages and division of voltage and current efforts in the devices. In this version of the paper, the simulation results for output power of 1 kW, input voltages of 110 V/ and 220 V and output voltage of 250 V, are presented.
