We conducted the survey in 2012 again in order to confirm the change in the state of implementation after years of time passage, and in order to get a hint of extensive usage of parks in Japan. In both cases, the majority of respondents were men over 60 years and women between 40 and 60 years. A large percent of respondents’ occupation included, self-owned business, freelance professional, full-time housewife, and the unemployed. The aim of doing the exercise was mostly “for the enhancement of health”. Most of them participated in the exercise every day or 5 to 6 days a week coming to the park by 6 o’ clock in the early morning and spending 2 to 3 hours in the park. In 2004, popular types of exercise for men were, walking, taijiquan, and qigong. In 2012, they were mainly walking and jogging. For women, both in 2004 and in 2012, popular types were mostly walking and aerobics. The largest merit of continuing the exercise, they answered, was “they have become disease resistant.” The most attractive features of the park, they answered, were, “it was abundant in nature”, and “there were mates to do exercise together”. Almost all of the respondents answered that the exercise at the Lumpini Park occupied a “necessary part in their life”. It was suggested that the early-morning exercise at the Lumpini Park has become their habit as an important part of their life.","PeriodicalId":442361,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Gymnastics for All","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121540107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[Participants] Ten instructors with a Radio Taiso Instructor Certificate I participated in an examination of the content validity of the scale. To measure the reliability of the scale, ten younger adults and ten older adults performed Radio Taiso No. 1. Their performance was evaluated by three instructors with the Radio Taiso Instructor Certificate I. [Methods] The content validity of the scale was established by comparing relevant literature and extracting perspectives of evaluating movements in Radio Taiso No. 1. A pilot scale was created based on the identified perspectives. The scale was then used in a questionnaire survey, which was conducted by the mailing method. The reliability of the scale was established by calculating a kappa coefficient for intra-rater and Cronbach’s α coefficient for inter-rater reliability. [Results] The content validity and reliability of the movement evaluation scale were verified. The scale comprised a total of 92 items, and could yield a maximum score of 276. [Conclusion] This study developed an evaluation scale for movements included in Radio Taiso No. 1. The scale could help observe and evaluate movements in detail. Furthermore, its content validity and reliability were verified.","PeriodicalId":442361,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Gymnastics for All","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125659371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We implemented an exercise using a Large-sized ball as the introduction to a class for women university students. The aim of this study is to make it clear how the psychological state changes before and after the exercise, and how it changes according to the time of the exercise: before or after noon. The subjects were 84 of women students of J-University who took the course of “Lifelong sports practice” which is one of the related subjects of sports and exercise in J-University. An exercise using a Large-sized ball was implemented for 30 minutes as the introduction to the class, and the change in psychological state was measured as the Two-dimensional Mood Scale. Also, on the voluntary base, questionnaire investigation was performed in which students were asked to describe their feeling in free format. As a result, it was found that degree of pleasure level and arousal level significantly increased after the exercise irrespective of the time of implementation. The change in feeling before and after the exercise, for both AM group and PM group, was as follows. After the exercise a trend was seen that the two-dimensional-coordinate shifted from “the area of apathy, dysphoria” to the “activity oriented area”. As for the description of the feeling before and after the exercise, much of it was about the feeling of unpleasantness and constipation before the exercise. After the exercise, however, much of it was about pleasantness. It was observed that by implementing an exercise using a Large-sized ball as the introduction to a class for women university students, the degree of pleasure level and arousal level increase irrespective of the time of implementation; improvement of the psychological state is suggested toward the activity oriented state.","PeriodicalId":442361,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Gymnastics for All","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132707346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A large ball is popular as a tool for exercise, but due to its characteristics of the need for keeping balance, bouncing and rolling, some difficulties are encountered in applying it to group exercise in an exercise class for the elderly who have difficulty in keeping balance from the view point of assuring safety. We therefore developed a method of using a large ball for exercise which can be safely carried out in a group of elderly persons. It is “dynamic ball” which uses a tire and a large ball stacked together in two tier. We actually carried out an inquiry survey in cooperation with 50 middle-aged and elderly persons who participate in an exercise class at J university, who experienced the exercise. In the cohort under 74 years of age, 95% (39) of persons answered that the dynamic ball exercise was very pleasant or pleasant. In the cohort above 75 years of age 100% (9) of persons answered in the same way. They also answered that the exercise was very safe, or safe for the elderly.","PeriodicalId":442361,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Gymnastics for All","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127902030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
