Small landholders sell their produce predominantly in informal or traditional value chains. Multinomial treatment effect estimates with endogenous market channels indicate that small landholders are less aware of the government-set floor price (minimum support price) and they realize lower prices and earn lower incomes than farmers selling in mandis (regulated markets).","PeriodicalId":441823,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Economics Research Review","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129084271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This shift requires us to focus on the trends in agricultural wages. Our analysis shows that non-farm wages, the MGNREGS, irrigation facility, and rural literacy have a significant and positive effect on agricultural wages, and farm mechanization helps reduce the wage rate significantly. Creating more non-farm employment opportunities and supporting literacy programmes and irrigation will help improve farm wages, and incentivizing farm mechanization will reduce the cost of cultivation for farmers and the rural poor.","PeriodicalId":441823,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Economics Research Review","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132088921","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The low economies of scale, lack of institutional support, and dominance of small and marginal farmers have constrained the sector’s efficiency. The technical efficiency of dairy farmers—determined by a farmer’s herd size, the size of their holding of cultivated land, education, and experience— would be improved by skills development and technology transfer.","PeriodicalId":441823,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Economics Research Review","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124403424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We find weak information linkages: the cotton spot market dominates in price discovery and its futures market in volatility spillover, and the futures market leads the spot market for both price discovery and risk hedging for mentha. To develop the market and improve the transmission of information, it is necessary to build a physical spot market and integrate it with the derivatives market, create awareness, build institutional capacity, improve delivery-based support, and redesign contract specifications.","PeriodicalId":441823,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Economics Research Review","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124102445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study is based on secondary data from published and unpublished sources. The GEE of water use in paddy-wheat-milk production ranged from Rs. 22.47 per cubic metre (m3) to Rs. 60.46 per m3. The study revealed that diversifying the irrigated area under cereal crop towards green fodder crops can improve the output value and the efficiency of groundwater use.","PeriodicalId":441823,"journal":{"name":"Agricultural Economics Research Review","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124171464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
