The problem of identification of marginal and joint distributions of competing random variables is recalled and certain identifiability results in the framework of regression models are presented. The main objective is then to study the case when the correlation of competing variables depends on covariates, as this phenomenon has not been taken into account in the most of papers dealing with the identifiability of competing risks models with regression. Such a dependence is demonstrated and estimated on a real example with unemployment data.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2019.0002","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43011208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main goal was to find a simple algorithm with high confidence of decision-makers in the results. First, all the linear fractional programming models on the given set of constraints were solved separately. Next, all the linear fractional objective functions were linearized, membership functions of objective functions and decision variables controlled by decision-makers at the highest level calculated, and a fuzzy multi-objective linear programming model formed and solved as linear goal programming problem by using simplex algorithm. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm was investigated using an economic example, and the obtained results compared with those obtained using an existing method.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2019.0007","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42486706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a powerful mathematical programming methodology for evaluating the relative efficiency of decision-making units (DMUs) with multiple outputs and multiple inputs. In the classic DEA, it has been implicitly assumed that all DMUs perform in a unique technology set and the traditional DEA cannot measure the relative performances of DMUs with dis-similar classes. In other words, if we have different groups of DMUs, the traditional DEA models cannot be applied to evaluate such cases. In this paper, it has been assumed that the DMUs do business in different groups. We are interested to evaluate the members of the groups. The main aim of this paper is proposing a DEA-based methodology to estimate the technical efficiency of DMUs along with different groups with different technologies. The proposed method is illustrated by an empirical example on banking industry.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2019.0008","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48220457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Differenced GMM and system GMM estimators are the two most frequently used dynamic panel estimators. Regardless the fact that both estimators are proposed for samples with a large N and short T, both of them are frequently used for small samples. Therefore, this paper compares the small sample properties of these two estimators with standard dynamic LSDV and LSDV bias-corrected estimators to examine the justification of their frequent use. Data set dimensions are formed considering dimensions of previous empirical studies that use dynamic panel data on small samples. The results show that LSDV bias-corrected estimator has the smallest RMSE in almost every design while in terms of bias, the results are mixed. LSDV bias-corrected outperforms both GMM estimators in terms of bias in design when the number of individuals is 10 and the number of time periods is 30. GMM estimators show somewhat better properties in terms of bias in design when the number of individuals is 30 and the number of time periods is 10.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2019.0005","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46681549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A Max-Plus algebra is one of the promising mathematical approaches that can be used for scheduling operations. It was already applied for the presentation of Johnson’s algorithm and for solving cyclic jobshop problems, but it had not yet been applied for non-delay schedules. In this article, max-plus algebra is used to formally present the generation of a non-delay schedule for the first time. We present a simple algorithm for generating matrices of starting and finishing times of operations, using max-plus algebra formalism. We apply the LRPT (Longest Remaining Processing Time) rule as the priority rule, and the SPT (Shortest Processing Time) rule as the tie-breaking rule. The algorithm is applicable for any other pair of priority rules with a few minor adjustments.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2019.0004","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47005924","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Special attention is given to the application of the Least Squares distance-like function. The procedure of preparing the incomplete data set and the outlier elimination procedure are proposed such that the clustering process gives acceptable solutions. Appropriate justifications with proof are provided for these procedures. An incremental algorithm for searching for optimal partitions with 2, 3, ... clusters is applied on the prepared data set. After that, by using the Davies-Bouldin and the Calinski Harabasz index the most appropriate number of clusters is determined. The whole procedure is organized as an algorithm given in the paper. In order to illustrate its applicability, the above steps are applied on the real data set of public buildings and their energy efficiency data, providing clear clusters that could be used for further modeling procedures.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2018-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2018.0020","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44035304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to overcome this problem, we propose an alternative definition of firm failure which is based on a firm's financial status, meaning financial distress, rather than its legal status. A firm is characterised as financially distressed when its EBITDA is lower than its interest expenses for two consecutive periods. Accordingly, we developed models based on three different failed firm statuses: (i) bankruptcy, (ii) rescue plan and (iii) financial distress. The application of logistic regression on a sample of Croatian firms has shown that a financial distress model has a high level of predictive power. Moreover, for the whole sample this model outperformed bankruptcy and rescue plan models in terms of overall accuracy and the prediction of failure status. Additional analysis has revealed that it is useful to develop a model for non-micro firms because such an estimation results in improved prediction power in comparison with a generic, one-size firm model. In the case of non-micro firms, the financial distress model outperformed the rescue plan model, while the hit rate was similar to the hit rate of the bankruptcy model. A developed financial distress model can be applied by investors and creditors in order to timely evaluate firm failure risks and undertake required business decisions.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2018-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2018.0021","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43751966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilizing theoretical and empirical research methods, this study aimed to identify optimal partitioning of seven clusters. In order to identify areas with high concentrations of furniture manufacturers, the fast partitioning algorithm among furniture manufacturers in Croatia – enterprises from class 31.09 – Manufacture of other furniture is used. It is important whereas such areas constituted of industry clusters are favourable for targeted cluster-based development. Previous research suggests that companies within clusters achieve higher level of productivity and growth, reach higher levels of innovation and provide favourable environment for entrepreneurship. Higher industry concentration within a specific geographic area offer numerous advantageous resulted from areas abundant with natural resources, human resources, suitable physical and information infrastructure and positive business environment. Using the fast partitioning algorithm, companies from class 31.09 – Manufacture of other furniture are clustered by geographical location (latitude and longitude), the number of employees, average net salary and value added. The results showed that the optimal partitioning of seven clusters is accomplished with observed five variables and that clusters significantly differ between each other according to the observed features.","PeriodicalId":44065,"journal":{"name":"Croatian Operational Research Review","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2018-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.17535/CRORR.2018.0011","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46900425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
