At the present, in literature CS is exploited in order to allow image formation from a non fully sampled k-space signals, greatly reducing the acquisition time. What we propose is the exploitation of CS for achieving the so called super-resolution, i.e. the possibility of distinguish anatomical structures smaller than the spatial resolution of the image. The mobile node of the considered system uses multiple closely spaced receivers, collecting RSS measurements and combining them to mitigate multipath effects. Using simulations and optical approximation, the effect of antenna directivity on the positioning accuracy is analyzed. Thanks to the use of modern flight controllers, they often can fly autonomously. Namely, the user can mark target points on a map to which the helicopter is driven by the software controller without any other interventions of the user. Once on the target, the helicopter performs the intended task, such as landing, catching aerial photos, or releasing loads. But, in order to be fully autonomous the helicopters should be also capable of recharging the on board batteries, as it is required to complete long lasting missions, without requiring any external interventions. A helicopter equipped with a suitable hardware that allows autonomous recharge by simply landing on a given platform is presented. These investigations have revealed some issues inherent to the temporal and spatial correlations present in the data, which are not considered in PCA. The proposed solutions to these problems include the formulation of a new matrix of data “rearranged” to take these effects into consideration. Nevertheless the “classical” Biplot methods (GH, JK, HJ) reflect both correlations between time intervals and between time series. The Biplot methods provide graphical procedures that offer more information about the behavior of time series than PCA, while making possible the use of more specific quality of representation metrics. The innovative distinctive feature of the proposed system is based on the high accuracy due to the acoustic run-time measurements. Therefore this approach is more precise than other indoor-localization systems based on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Furthermore, it is user-friendly as the user needs only his smartphone and no additional hardware. With its high precision the system allows entirely new applications in indoor localization. In particular, it has the technological potential to help blind people to navigate through public and administrative buildings without the need of assistance from others. In this novel approach we implement an unscented Kalman filter which proves to be capable of tracking not only the position of the target but also the time offset of the smartphone clock, reducing the required number of available receivers for localization. Besides, the precise synchronization of the receivers allows us to track the current position of the smartphone user with a median error of 9 cm and a standard deviation of 9 cm in a real-world scenario. Due to the lack of a power supply in freight cars, we plan to rely on energy scavenging from vibrations. This implies that the energy requirements of the system must be minimized, choosing ultra-low-power hardware and operating it in active mode only for a small fraction of the time. To extend the operational time, energy harvesting systems (EHSs) support the power supply by transforming environmental energy into electrical energy. In the best case, a self-sufficient supply of the sensor node is possible. Information about the harvestable energy is necessary to design WSNs and EHSs properly. However, detailed information is often not available and special equipment is necessary to measure it. Therefore, this paper presents a simple method to estimate and track the harvestable power.
