For this purpose, a test set-up was designed and manufactured, which rules out the problems associated with application of the glass syringe method. Ostwald coefficient, which defines the solubility of gases in liquid phase, are measured at 25 °C and at the pressure of 1020 mbar for key gases in mineral oil. The measured values are consistent well with those presented in IEEE C57.104, which ascertains applicability of this method to reveal the gas solubility of conventional and emerging insulating fluids.","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125330598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, monitoring and measuring the PD is a vital task to safeguard the HV power equipment used in the power system network. To execute the PD activity in the HV laboratory, a prototype liquid dielectric test cell with needle-plane electrode arrangement has been used as per IEC 60270. The proposed work focuses on Acoustic Emission (AE) technique as an online condition monitoring tool for finding out the solution related to the PD activity inside the dielectric test cell. The obtained results confirm that AE method has a great potential to analyse the PD activity efficiently. Further, PD-affected transformer oil samples have also been analysed with UV-visible spectroscopy and the obtained results showed that it has the ability to know the quality of the degraded oil samples.","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134515821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Next, under different PB arrangements in oil, the time dependent behavior of electric field stress was measured under both DC voltage and DC polarity reversal (DC-PR) conditions. The physical mechanisms of the movement and accumulation of charge carriers in the insulation systems were also clarified. Moreover, the breakdown discharge initiation by accumulated charges on PB was investigated and analyzed. FEM based electric field analysis techniques were also applied for liquid dielectric insulation systems, especially for the DC converter transformer structure. Finally, the electrical insulation performance for HVDC applications was discussed.","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132191682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also noted that there have been some transformers which have suffered a winding failure with no historical DGA overheating prior to failure via routine sampling, or violation of industry standard CO ppm values. This is not to say that overheating didn't occur prior to failure, but rather the last manual sample collected did not reveal any overheating and the problem seemed to develop so quickly that the outage came as a surprise to all. It is the intent of this paper to demonstrate a method utilizing the historical CO2/CO ratio in mineral oil filled transformers to help solve these puzzles and do it with greater accuracy than previously believed possible. By trending the CO2/CO ratio, the user will be able to qualify problems with heavy paper (such as a winding), light paper (such as a lead) and bare-metal connections (such as a De-Energized Tap Changer).","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133635453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Three kinds of rise times (15 ns, 2.2 μs, and 500 μs) were compared liquid dynamics. Although the differences between 15 ns and 2.2 μs rise times were much shorter than spray initiation, clear difference was observed in the initiation time. It indicates that fast charging up of the liquid surface affects initiation process of electrospray. Furthermore, thinner nozzle seems to be greatly affected due to calculation result.","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132578979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that the average AC breakdown voltage of JMEO is higher than that of mineral oil. Meanwhile it is similar under DC voltage. The statistical analysis shows that all large data groups (n>40) for AC and DC breakdown voltages of JMEO, MO and oil mixtures obey to the normal distribution law. This is proved using Shapiro-Wilk test, skewness and kurtosis values. It also observed that AC mean breakdown voltage of JMEO is higher than that of oils mixture (50%JMEO+50%MO) and MO, but it is similar with oils mixture (80%JMEO+20%MO). AC mean breakdown voltage of MO is the lowest one. DC mean breakdown voltages of JMEO, MO and oil mixtures (50%JMEO+50%MO) are similar. In contrast, DC mean breakdown voltage of oils mixture (80%JMEO+20%MO) is the highest one.","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115102525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Historically mineral oil is used as the dielectric liquid for OLTC. Considering the new global emphasis on biodegradable solutions, various alternative dielectric liquids such as Silicone oil, High Molecular Weight Hydrocarbons (HMWH), Poly Chlorinated Biphynyl (PCB), Ester oil etc., were considered. It is also important to consider economics while providing biodegradable solutions. Based on study of the performance of various dielectric liquids mentioned above, option of ester oil was found to be suitable. Detailed study of the properties of the mineral oil vis-à-vis the natural ester oil was carried out. Extensive experiments were conducted for both the oils at CTR — India Research and Development Center, supported by the state of the art test facilities, for different aspects of Tapchanger and the test results compared.","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124396547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the analysis of discharge images captured by a high-speed camera, it can be concluded that the discharge modes are classified as subsonic bush-like streamers or supersonic filamentary streamers. Experimental results demonstrate that the amplitude of applied voltage have a great influence on the discharge modes as well as the shock wave intensity. In the experimental conditions a threshold value of 22.5kV is necessary for the subsonic streamers turning into supersonic streamers, which is a remarkable measure to reduce the energy loss and improve the energy conversion efficiency and eventually enhances the shock wave intensity.","PeriodicalId":439228,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE 19th International Conference on Dielectric Liquids (ICDL)","volume":"217 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128624981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
