Yadav","doi":"10.1002/pnp.768","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1002/pnp.768","url":null,"abstract":"Clozapine is licensed for treatment‐resistant schizophrenia. Clozapine dosage is normally adjusted according to each patient's clinical response and the side‐effect profile, but caution is advocated when using clozapine, due to its association with potentially life‐threatening side‐effects. One such adverse reaction is the risk of seizures. There is much debate as to how to prevent clozapine‐induced seizures: some authors recommend primary and some, secondary prophylaxis with antiseizure drugs. This article highlights an interesting case study and explores various factors that must be considered before a decision is made to prescribe anticonvulsant medication.","PeriodicalId":43913,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42157903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The mental health of patients with ID has been affected due to factors such as reduction in staffing levels due to illness, day services and respite care being closed, restrictions to visits and to going out to public places. This study compared characteristics, presentation and treatment of care home patients referred to the care home pathway team during three lockdowns between March 2020 and March 2021 in the Guildford and Waverley Home Pathway. Despite availability of mental health services, the findings indicate a reduction in access to mental health services as well as physical health investigations for elderly residents in care homes during lock down 1 compared with the subsequent lockdowns.","PeriodicalId":43913,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Neurology and Psychiatry","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.2,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48562767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
