Metodos: A amostra foi constituida por 29 pacientes com diagnostico de vertigem periferica, selecionados pelo metodo de amostragem nao probabilistica e por conveniencia, com idade entre 45 e 64 anos, sendo 9 do genero masculino e 20 do genero feminino. A pesquisa diagnostica para avaliacao da audicao consistiu de anamnese audiologica e audiometria tonal liminar. A avaliacao do equilibrio postural foi feita em Plataforma de Forca, nas posicoes bipodal e semi-tandem, com os olhos abertos. Os parâmetros de equilibrio analisados foram: area elipse, centro de pressao em centimetros quadrados, velocidade media em centimetros por segundo e frequencia media, em Hertz, de oscilacoes do centro de pressao, em ambas as direcoes dos movimentos: anteroposterior e mediolateral. Resultados: Na populacao geral, a comparacao dos dados estabilometricos entre individuos com e sem perda auditiva nao demonstrou prejuizo da manutencao do equilibrio postural. Houve diferenca no genero feminino, em relacao ao parâmetro velocidade, na direcao mediolateral. Conclusao: Embora nao tenham sido encontradas diferencas que possam caracterizar correlacao entre perda auditiva e equilibrio entre os pacientes, houve pior desempenho no equilibrio postural das mulheres com vertigem associada a perda auditiva, no parâmetro mediolateral.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130252009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Research strategy: For the selection of studies, the swallowing disorder descriptors stroke, screening, evaluation and dysphagia were used. MEDLINE, Embase, LILACS, SciELO and the Cochrane Library databases were consulted. Selection criteria: We selected articles in the English, Portuguese and Spanish languages published up to December 2014 whose methodological approach referred to screening tools for oropharyngeal dysphagia designed for adults with stroke. The parameters used in the various screening tools were grouped by equality and/or likeness. We performed a descriptive analysis and calculated the frequency of found parameters. Results: We found 688 articles and after consideration of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 23 articles were effectively analyzed. Of the 20 tools found, 90% used some type of food offer orally in screening for dysphagia, mostly water. We found 19 different parameters not related to food offer and 12 parameters related to food offer. Conclusion: There is no consensus among the studies on the most sensitive and specific parameters to compose the screening method for oropharyngeal dysphagia in stroke.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"144 28","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133086930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The masticatory type and other behaviors associated with mastication of bread (1cm thick), the analysis of food seizure, bolus formation and measurement of chewing time, using a timer, were considered. For DDK assessment, the syllabic emissions \"pa\", \"ta\", \"ka\" and the tri-syllable \"pataka\", as to the parameters automatically provided by the Motor Speech Profile Advanced program (KayPentax®), were analyzed. Relevant statistics was performed for the correlation between the qualitative aspects of masticatory function and DDK.Results The statistical analysis showed a correlation between the chewing time and the parameters coefficient of peak intensity variation of syllable ‘'ta'' and disturbance time of syllable \"ka'', indicating DDK instability. No correlation with the data of oral DDK was seen for the masticatory type, seizure and bolus formation.Conclusion Oral DDK correlated with the chewing time in healthy elderly, showing that the higher the instability in the repetition of movements of the tip and the back of the tongue, during articulatory production, the longer the time required to prepare the food for swallowing.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128574628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At first, the participants underwent a clinical evaluation of the tongue. Electric activity of submental region was recorded, by means of the electromyographic assessment, with the participant keeping the tongue in rest position and accomplishing the following exercises: tongue suction on the palate; tongue pressure on the palate; tongue apex pressure against the palate; tongue apex pressure against incisive papilla; exaggerated tongue retraction; tongue lateralization; and tongue protrusion. The exercises were randomly accomplished by the participants. Collected data were analyzed using Kruskal Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. It was adopted as the significance level for all analyzes value of p≤0.05.Results Electromyographic activity of all the exercises was different from the one recorded in rest position. There was no statistical significant difference between different exercises.Conclusion There was no difference in submental electrical activation in different exercises. The final sample was defined by the trial of 20 subjects lay people who chose the top five out of vision scenes for each style. In the second phase three speech therapists characterized the sample through perceptual evaluation, and the third phase was carried out acoustic analysis of the fundamental frequency parameters, intensity and duration.Results In three styles the sample is characterized by a neutral voice quality with balanced melodic curve, using emphases the importance of the word in the phrase, expressive pauses and speech rate average. In the acoustic analysis, serious style showed lower minimum frequency, intensity variation and duration of the stressed syllable. The neutral style obtained the lower maximum frequency, variation in semitone and amount of pauses per minute, and larger intensity variation and speech rate. The relaxed style obtained the lower speech rate and the highest maximum frequency, minimal variation in semitones, number of breaks per minute and duration of the stressed syllable. Was statistical difference in the rate of speech comparing the relaxed and serious, relaxed and neutral styles.Conclusion The perceptual evaluation results were similar in all styles. The difficulty level described by the subjects influenced the latencies of stimuli /Di/ and /Da/, ranked as the easiest and they were evidenced in the lowest latency of P3.Conclusion The /Ba/ x /Di/ contrast was considered the easiest for perception, being evidenced by the lowest latency of P3.
