Metodos Foi realizada anamnese, testes de rastreio de comprometimento cognitivo e depressao e avaliacao audiologica convencional. Foi desenvolvido um Teste de Reconhecimento de Fala utilizando Frases de Previsibilidade Alta e Baixa e aplicado a 36 idosos (G1 e G3 - grupos sem perda auditiva ate 4 kHz e G2 e G4 - grupos com perda auditiva neurossensorial de grau leve a moderado). Dois grupos realizaram o teste no silencio e com ruido (relacao sinal/ruido +5 dB) e os outros dois grupos somente com ruido (relacoes +5 dB e 0 dB). Resultados O teste de reconhecimento de fala revelou, de modo geral, maior pontuacao nas frases de previsibilidade alta e melhores desempenhos para os grupos sem perda auditiva. No silencio, os idosos sem e com perda auditiva obtiveram pontuacao maxima igual e as menores pontuacoes ocorreram na condicao de ruido mais intenso. O beneficio da previsibilidade foi positivo para os grupos 1, 2 e 3. O grupo 4 apresentou comportamento variado quanto ao uso da previsibilidade (ora positivo, ora negativo). Conclusao Com a populacao de idosos avaliados e as diferencas observadas em um dos grupos considerados, nao foi possivel compreender, com exatidao, como os idosos se beneficiam do apoio da previsibilidade. A perda auditiva e a presenca do ruido influenciaram negativamente o desempenho no teste. Methods: The hearing-perceptual performance of 155 children, between 5 and 9 years old (divided in 2 groups: G1 and G2) was evaluated with the use of a software named Perception Evaluation Auditive & Visuelle (PERCEVAL), in a task of stressed vowels identification in Brazilian Portuguese. Acoustic and visual stimuli were presented, asking a child to choose the corresponding picture according to the word listened, between two possibilities of images shown on a computer screen. The presentation time of the stimuli and the children's reaction were calculated, automatically, by the software. Results: The group of older children (G2) presented a better hearing-perceptual accuracy, comparing to the accuracy of the younger children's group (G1). As to the reaction time, the G1 has always presented a higher reaction time comparing to the children in G2, for both the mistakes and successes. As to the standard of mistakes, generally, the groups didn't differ. The analysis of correlation between age and accuracy showed that the children from G1 presented a positive correlation with the age. However, it didn't happen with the children from G2. Conclusion: The hearing-perceptual ability, concerning the identification of vocalic contrasts, seems to occur gradually and stabilizes at 9 years old.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125734091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The descriptors used were “Validation studies,” “Validity of tests,” “Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences,” and “Valid” (followed by a truncation element) in Portuguese, English, and Spanish. Selection criteria: The review included studies that performed some type of validation of tests in Speech Therapy. The survey found 296 papers, 48 of which were included. Most studies were published by international journals in Speech Therapy and with broad-age-group samples. Results: The main area assessed by the instruments was language (20 studies), followed by audiology (13 studies). The year with the highest number of publications was 2014 and the main type of search for validity evidence was based on the internal structure. Conclusion: The principles of search for validity evidence are still scarcely used for instruments in Speech Therapy. However, most studies were developed in recent years, which shows the current trend for focusing on the need for enhancing the instruments.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131327853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: For the conduction of the study itself, a long step of planning and pilot activities was conducted. This included selection and training of field staff, development, test and retest measurement instrument of self- reported SLS-H disorders and approach techniques and completion of the questionnaires have been tested and applied, because of the complexity of the study. Results: The average time of interview varied from 35 to 15 minutes depending of interviewers experience and for both groups after some fieldwork the average time spent declined. The occurrence of “do not know or didn't inform” answer ranged from 0.2% (95% CI 0.0;1.6) and 6.1% (95% CI 2.8;11.3). Its lowest occurrence was for questions relating to the history of hoarseness and tinnitus by proxys. Incidence was higher for the question related to the perception of change in vocal emission associated with aging. Conclusion: Household survey is feasible and relevant to verify the burden of SLS-H disorders in the general population, although it required extensive knowledge of the study, selection and ongoing training of interviewers to increase the chance of participation, and logistics for the analysis and classification of the information collected.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"543 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122228496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study using a database of patients seen in a speech therapy service. Results: The sample comprised 23 patients, 16 (69.6%) of whom female and seven (30.4%) male. The mean age was 58 years and the mean therapy duration was three months with 11 sessions. Among the types of dysphonia found, organic was the most frequent (47.8%) followed by functional (30.7%) and organic-functional (21.7%). The protocol's total score median decreased prior to intervention compared to the post-intervention period, which means a lower voice handicap. Moreover, 80% of the protocol's questions significantly differed when compared pre and post speech therapy. Conclusion: A difference was found in voice perception after speech therapy intervention, indicated by lower scores in the IDV items. The findings show the importance of using the IDV protocol in clinical practice to help the speech therapist target the treatment and understand the voice behavior of dysphonic patients. Further research is suggested given the instrument's efficacy.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124485086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: This prospective, longitudinal study comprised 17 children with ages between 6 and 13 years and hearing thresholds within normal. The LLAEP P1, N1, P2, N2, P300 were recorded with speech stimuli and tone burst presented in sound field system, in three different moments: initial assessment (M0), three months after the initial assessment (M3), and nine months after the initial assessment (M9). Results: When the speech stimuli was used, there was a decrease in the latency values of components P1 (M0xM3/M0xM9/M0xM3xM9) and P2 (M0xM9), as well as an increase in the amplitude of P300 (M0xM3) over time. With the tone bust stimuli, it was verified a decrease in the latency values of P300 (M0xM9) over time. Conclusion: it was possible to identify the components of the LLAEP in most individuals. The P1, N1, P2, N2 (tone burst) and N1 and N2 (speech) did not change their latencies and amplitudes between the different moments of evaluation, suggesting stability of this potential in the period of 9 months. The P300 was the component most sensitive to the time intervals considered, since it presented modifications over time that indicated maturation of the central auditory nervous system. The latencies of all components obtained with speech stimulus were higher than with tone bursts, indicating that different stimuli generate different cortical responses.","PeriodicalId":439092,"journal":{"name":"Audiology - Communication Research","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123843906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
