This paper analyses noise pollution and light pollution in the area of the city of Split. In this area, there are no systematic measurements of the noise level in all parts of the city, while there are no measurements of light pollution at all. Results of the analysis of the data from the strategic noise maps, on the exposure of the population of the city of Split to noise pollution, show that 42 % of the population is exposed to excessive levels of road traffic noise during the day, evening, and night. The analysis of publicly available satellite measurements showed that, ac-cording to light pollution classification, the sky above the city of Split falls within the city sky class, with a tendency toward the highest light pollution class. These results point to the urgent need for implementation of measures that enable the reduction of noise pollution and light pollution, with the aim of improving the quality of life in the area of the city of Split.","PeriodicalId":43849,"journal":{"name":"Kemija u Industriji-Journal of Chemists and Chemical Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49363816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Coke production is present worldwide, especially in recent years when due to economic growth the global demand for steel is growing, which consequently increases demand for coke. During coke production, enor- mous amounts of toxic wastewater of extremely complex composition are generated. Priority pollutants that coking wastewater contains are phenols, cyanides, and thiocyanates. For successful treatment of such wastewater and achieving safety discharge standards, the application of a single process is insufficient. Accordingly, a combination of different physicochemical and bio - logical treatment procedures, of which biological treatment is the most important, should be applied. In this article, a literature review of coking wastewater characteristics and treatment technologies is presented. In addition, this review addresses the complexity and limitations associated with coking wastewater treatment, with special emphasis on biological treatment meth- ods. The aim of this review was to summarise the current knowledge on coking wastewater treatment technologies, which could eventually help optimisation of existing solutions","PeriodicalId":43849,"journal":{"name":"Kemija u Industriji-Journal of Chemists and Chemical Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45608192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array design was applied to investigate the four controllable factors (different metallic material, initial pH value, stirring speed, and contact time) on decrease of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and electrodes mass loss. COD decrease reached values in the range of 75.72–92.97 %. The Taguchi optimisation results showed that the most effective factor for decrease of COD is the duration of the experiment, while the electrode material was for electrodes mass loss. The zinc electrode showed the lowest potential for use in the EC process for treatment of compost leachate, while the Al and Fe electrodes could be used in an acid or slightly acidic environment. The following decreasing order of energy consumption was recorded: Zn > Al > Fe. The measured values of metal electrode mass loss exceeded the theoretical values calculated using Faraday’s law in EC experiments with Al electrodes, while in experiments with Fe and Zn electrodes, those differences were insignificant.","PeriodicalId":43849,"journal":{"name":"Kemija u Industriji-Journal of Chemists and Chemical Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42783139","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to evaluate the effect of re-extrusion on the structure of PET, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was utilised. No significant effect of the re-extrusion process on the structure of the PET sample was noticed. Obtained samples were also characterised by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in order to determine characteristic thermal transitions of PET. DSC results indicated the influence of re-extrusion; extruded PET started to melt at lower temperatures, and the crystal - lisation of re-extruded PET took place at significantly higher temperatures in comparison to PET. Likewise, thermogravimetric analysis (TG) was used to evaluate the effect of re-extrusion process on the thermal stability of samples. TG analysis revealed that the re-extrusion process had no effect on the thermal stability of the investigated PET samples. Finally, the activation energy of thermal degradation of the investigated samples was calculated using iso-conversional Flynn-Wall-Ozawa and Friedman method. Consequently, higher activation energies were noticed for the re-extruded PET sample in comparison to the PET bottle sample, which is a good argument in support of PET bottle recycling.","PeriodicalId":43849,"journal":{"name":"Kemija u Industriji-Journal of Chemists and Chemical Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42933971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, LPMO enzymes were investigated to explore the enzyme-substrate interaction with the aim of successful biomass conversion in biorefinery processes. After reduc - tive activation of LPMOs active site, they cleave the substrate and prepare it for biomass degradation by hydrolytic enzymes. In this paper, the role of LPMO in lignocellulosic biomass conversion is described based on the recent studies of: LPMO enzyme structure, LPMO substrate preferences, and the LPMO reaction mechanism. These findings are important for the selection of suitable bioprocess conditions with the aim of LPMO activation/stabilisation in biorefinery production processes.","PeriodicalId":43849,"journal":{"name":"Kemija u Industriji-Journal of Chemists and Chemical Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44392480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These steels find wide application in the automotive industry, which is constantly searching for better quality materials in the aim of increasing vehicle safety, protecting the environment, and reducing fuel consumption. In this case, for all tested specimens the experimental uniaxial tensile tests were performed at three different strain rates, 0.0083 s −1 , 0.042 s −1 , and 0.16 s −1 , to determine mechanical properties such as stress, strain, yield strength, and ultimate tensile strength of mentioned steels. In addition, uniaxial tensile tests with characteristics similar to those experimental were carried out through the finite element modelling method using the Mat_Picewise_Linear_Plasticity_024 model, to determine the mentioned mechanical properties, but also to determine the failure parameters or plastic strain up to failure, of all triaxiality modelled specimens. The obtained results were validated by comparing the experimental results with numerical simulation results. The comparative scale of accuracy between both steels was made at the fracture strain, and the average accuracy of both steels for the standard (s) specimens was < 1 %, for the (20a) specimens 1.50 %, for the (4a) specimens 4 %, and for (a) specimens 3.50 %. Finally, it was concluded that the proposed material model and calibrated failure data fitted very well.","PeriodicalId":43849,"journal":{"name":"Kemija u Industriji-Journal of Chemists and Chemical Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47734284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A database of 3606 data points were from the Renewable Energies Development Center, radiometric station ‘Shems’ of Bouzareah. The single neural networks and bootstrap aggregated neural networks were built together. The precision and durability of neural network models generated with an incomplete quantity of training datasets were improved using bootstrap aggregated neural networks. To produce numerous sets of training data points, the training data was re-sampled utilising bootstrap resampling by replacement. A neural network model was built for each of the data points. The individual neural network models were then combined to produce the bootstrap aggregated neural networks. The experimental and predicted values of global solar radiation were compared, and lower root mean squared errors (68.3968 and 62.4856 Wh m −2 ) were discovered during the testing phases for single neural networks and bootstrap aggregated neural networks, respectively. The results of these models show that the bootstrap aggregated neural networks model is more accurate and robust than single neural networks.","PeriodicalId":43849,"journal":{"name":"Kemija u Industriji-Journal of Chemists and Chemical Engineers","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.7,"publicationDate":"2023-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43718431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
