The authors argue for the inclusion of subjective assessments in economic decision-making processes. The growing body of research on happiness economics and subjective well-being has provided significant evidence for the importance of new practices, approaches, and analysis methods in measuring socio-economic progress. The authors highlight the need to consolidate these achievements in the field. The proposed methodology for this research synthesis is a scoping review, which is not widely used yet. This article offers an opportunity to familiarize oneself with this new methodology and gain a comprehensive understanding of the main achievements, key trends, and unexplored areas of the subjective well-being economics. The authors believe that their \"research about research\" will help clarify the meaning of \"happiness\" in economics, identify primary research focuses, and describe causal relationships between subjective well-being factors and various aspects of economic life.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The allocative efficiency of the resource portfolio determines the or-ganizational and economic results of the industrial business models cooperation. The article is devoted to modeling the impact of intra-group allocation of produc-tion assets on the revenue and profitability of sales for group of industrial enter-prises. We also construct scenarios for optimizing its resource portfolio. The me-thodologically study is based on neo-institutional economic theories (contract theory, the agency problem theory) and the macroeconomic analysis. The methods are econometric and scenario modeling. The information base of the study was da-ta on economic activity for eight enterprises from UMK-Steel LTD of the multi-functional holding «Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company». We select a re-gression analysis toolkit that allows for a comprehensive and relevant measure-ment of the impact of various types of resources on the efficiency in the group of industrial enterprises. The results of empirical testing revealed the relationship be-tween the structure of fixed assets, as well as labor resources, and the indicators of revenue and profitability of sales in UMK-Steel LTD. The distribution of material resources between the enterprises of the group has practically no effect on its per-formance indicators. Further, we identify the base scenario for allocation of the resource portfolio. The proposed methodology contributes to the development of approaches to the system analysis of intragroup allocative efficiency in complex hierarchical industrial business models.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135865240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, capital expenditures of Russian regional budgets are generally insufficient to ensure sustainable economic growth or even for basic infrastructure maintenance. The primary explanation for this is the limited availability of budgetary resources, particularly the own revenues of regional budgets. While acknowledging this fact, it is necessary to consider why and how regional authorities utilize or do not utilize alternative sources of financing, primarily through borrowing as permitted by budget legislation. This article aims to identify the reasons behind the inefficiency of existing regulations that govern borrowing and investment activities in Russia's regions, as well as the effects of recent innovations in budget legislation. The article offers suggestions for improving the regulatory framework and enhancing borrowing and investment activities of the subjects of the Federation.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study is based on a survey in which more than 500 students from the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg took part from March to April 2023. This survey was complemented by an experiment in the form of a multi-question quiz designed to test students' knowledge of popular culture, economics, and technology, with both the format of the quiz and its content encouraging students to be opportunistic. As a result, in such an experimental way, it was possible to prove the connection between the use of a cheat sheet and cheating in everyday life. The authors built five logistic regressions - one for each variable explained in the form of one or another manifestation of cheating - double delivery of work, submission of other people's work, purchase of work, use of a cheat sheet, and fabrication of data. Among the factors influencing the likelihood of belonging to a group of unscrupulous students, one can highlight high income, studying in educational programs such as Management, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, and Analytics, a focus on performance instead of mastery, being at the bottom of the rating, the presence of retakes, a negative attitude towards academic ratings, distance learning, deviant behavior in the form of theft, violation of prohibitions and stowaways, the external environment, and a short session. This study also made it possible to create a typical portrait of a fraudster at HSE using clustering associated with the identification of unobserved groups based on the presented observed categorical variables.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866114","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specificity of this type of implicit social contract is demonstrated, particularly regarding the potential benefits and existing limitations in pursuing higher education and realizing the life ambitions of the Soviet intelligentsia. The archetypes and behavioral strategies of individuals during the Soviet era are examined, both in terms of socially accepted and deviant conduct. The institutional elements that shape the experiences of individuals with higher education during the Soviet period are described, specifically the influence of officially proclaimed morality, ethical norms, and coercive mechanisms as value systems. The issue of the overproduction of individuals with higher education is highlighted, which resulted in the devaluation of its significance and a decline in social status for the technical intelligentsia during the Soviet period. The problems surrounding the quality of primary and higher education in the USSR are discussed, and the factors contributing to its crisis in the late USSR are identified. The transformation of values in the post-Soviet period is examined, and some consequences stemming from this transformation are explored.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While its proponents highlight several genuine problems in classical institutionalism that pertain to the complexities of modern institutions, the author has reservations regarding whether this metatheory can truly deliver on its promised breakthrough in research methodology. Understanding the complexity of an object requires abstracting its features and aspects, as well as employing antithesis as an artificial but reflective tool. However, the adoption of an \"unsealed\" approach makes it difficult to apply general logical and concrete scientific methods. The refusal to establish cause-and-effect relationships and laws, along with the substitution of concepts with metaphors, may result in a displacement of genuine research by purely descriptive activities and rhetoric. Studies that employ this particular conceptual framework (assemblage, bricolage, kluge) often fall short of advancing beyond interpretation or formulating testable theoretical propositions. Despite the increasing use of this vocabulary, doubts persist regarding the quantity and quality of studies based on real empirical evidence and the construction of successful predictive models. The author contends that the underlying reason for this lack of progress can be attributed to the influence of postmodern philosophy, which rejects classical scientific approaches in general, including the principles of classical institutionalism (such as rationality, optimality, efficiency of institutions, and their functional analysis).","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Non-rooted social institutions refer to various organizations, networks, and collaborations that are not directly involved in research or production activities, but still exert a significant influence on regional innovation processes. These institutions can include government agencies responsible for policy-making and funding allocations for innovation programs at the regional level, professional associations promoting knowledge sharing and collaboration among industry professionals across regions, venture capital firms providing financial resources to startups and entrepreneurs, incubators and accelerators offering support services to early-stage ventures, as well as non-profit organizations focusing on community engagement and entrepreneurship education. Our paper focuses on the main rooted and non-rooted social institutions of the RIS systems using a case study of the Russian Federation. Moreover, it determines the degree of their influence on the assessment of their effectiveness. Furthermore, the paper explains that under conditions of economic stability in a region with different levels of innovative potential, the influence of different social institutions on RIS is determined differently. In conditions of economic instability, unrooted social institutions begin to play a key and decisive role. Based on the results of our study, we draw some conclusions regarding the need to take into account external socio-economic factors in the development of tools for assessing the effectiveness of regional innovation systems.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we conducted an analysis of the factors influencing the emergence and success of mobilization among healthcare workers in a specific region. Through an examination of media publications from March 2020 to February 2021, we gathered information on 464 collective actions that garnered public attention. The analysis reveals that the socio-economic characteristics of the region, as well as the burden of the epidemic on medical personnel, were influential factors in the emergence of public campaigns. Furthermore, the success of these collective actions was found to be correlated with the dynamics of the real income of the local population. This study represents the first comprehensive analysis of collective actions among healthcare workers in Russia during the pandemic, providing valuable insights for developing recommendations on supporting healthcare professionals during epidemic situations.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that some countries are currently transforming their research evaluation institutes, because such systems proved ineffective in the context of geopolitical turbulence. We observe that the focus is shifting from the use of indicators of international scientometric databases to the use of the combination of qualitative and quantitative evaluation. Besides, we note that the importance of national academic journals is increasing. We analyze approaches to the formation of national lists of scientific periodicals and reveal specific features of the procedures for their creation. We put forward a typology of national lists of journals and assess their impact on the publication behavior of researchers. We conclude that global practice provides examples of effective approaches to the compilation of national “white” lists of academic journals, which, due to their integration into the scientific performance evaluation system, act as a kind of stabilizing mechanism that protects the system from the influence of external challenges in times of geopolitical instability. The conclusions we have obtained during the analysis contribute to the development of knowledge in the field of scholarly journals evaluation.","PeriodicalId":43842,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Institutional Studies","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135866282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existence of financial pyramids dates back hundreds of year. The phenomenon is steadily reproducing, however, digitalization has given unprecedented opportunities for the organizers to avoid responsibility and additional properties of the schemes themselves, causing an explosive increase in the number of pyramids in recent years. The objective of the study is to understand, whether there is a phenomenon of “digital financial pyramid”, and if so, to identify the it’s criteria. We use a two-step research procedure. The first step is crowdsourcing as a collection of information about a sample of pyramids from the list of the Bank of Russia by volunteers. The second step is a brainstorming among participants who are interested in financial pyramids. The results of the study are rated lists of * methods of attracting participants by the organizers (by channels and content), * characteristics of a person who is a potential participant in financial pyramids, * attractive features of high-yield risky schemes, * reasons why participants in high-yield risky schemes lose their investments.
