The World Health Organisation defines the concept of quality of care as the \"the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes\". Thus defined, healthcare quality means that the healthcare service provided should be effective and efficient, safe and patient-oriented, provided in a timely manner, just and integrated. Countries around the world have committed to achieving the goals of the \"Health for All\" strategy, thus accepting healthcare quality as both their obligation, and as their goal. The concept of healthcare quality in the Republic of Serbia was developed on the foundations of the previous system, characterised in a high level of socialized healthcare, available free of charge to all age and social groups, grounded in the principles that the World Health Organisation recognises as essential principles in its documents. Strong primary healthcare is the corner stone of this system. Years of war, accompanied by economic and political sanctions, have impacted all sectors in the Republic of Serbia, including the healthcare sector, which was quite shaken. In 2000, a new reform of the healthcare system was launched, and already in 2004 public health institutes began implementing activities aimed at improving the quality of healthcare and patient safety, as part of the program of the Ministry of Health entitled \"Monitoring the quality of work in healthcare institutions in the Republic of Serbia\" and in line with the \"Instruction on monitoring the quality of work in healthcare institutions\". Years of investments into healthcare capacities and human resources followed, together with the definition of a legislative framework for quality monitoring. The Ministry of Health and the Institute of Public Health of Serbia \"Dr Milan Jovanović Batut\", together with the network of public health institutes, have adopted a set of multisector, strategic and planning documents and coordinated program implementation at all levels of health care. Many activities were implemented, and according to the Euro Health Consumer Index (EHCI), from 2012 to 2018, the healthcare system in the Republic of Serbia has significantly improved its quality. In 2018, with regards to quality, Serbia was awarded the title of the climber of the year. COVID-19 pandemic put the Serbian healthcare system before new challenges, and requirements related to quality maintenance and improvement have become even more complex. In these circumstances, provision of high-quality healthcare on all levels remains a value we keep striving for, emphasizing the leverages of total healthcare quality management that will truly be oriented towards a satisfied patient.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131423948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim: The aim of the study is to examine trends in the use of antidepressants and benzodiazepines in Serbia for the period 2006-2019. Method: Annual data on consumption were taken from the Serbian Medicines Agency and expressed in defined daily doses per 1000 inhabitants per day (DDD / TID). Consumption trends were analysed using segmented regression. Segmented regression calculates the average annual percentage change (AAPC) in consumption during the observed period from 2006 to 2019. Results: Consumption of antidepressants and benzodiazepines in 2019 were 35 DDD / TID and 126 DDD / TID, with percentage increases of 360% and 33% compared to 2006 and with AAPC values of 11.8 (p < 0.001) and 0.7 (p = 0.564) respectively. Among antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors were the most widely used. Anxiolytics-derivatives of benzodiazepines (N06BA) were the most used group among benzodiazepines. Bromazepam and Lorazepam had the highest volume in the N06BA group. Benzodiazepine-related drugs (Zolpidem) also had a growing trend, especially from 2006 to 2009. Conclusion: Use of benzodiazepines and antidepressants in Serbia increased, following global trends.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131084746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our laboratory uses tests from two manufacturers, 2019-nCoV from Sansure and Xpert Xpress SARS-CoV-2 test from Cepheid. Protocols of different manufacturers list different predefined Ct (cycle threshold) values as cut-offs for a positive test. In this study, we focus on additional verification of Ct values for borderline positive samples, to confirm the results obtained. From May to November 2021, 88,708 tests were performed, of which 7,669 were positive and 224 were borderline positive. In retested borderline positive samples, positive results were obtained in 72.3% of the cases. Percentage of negative results upon retesting was 27.7%, which is almost a third of the total number of samples analysed. Based on these results, we can conclude that special attention must be paid when interpreting borderline positive results of RT-PCR tests. In the retesting process, if possible, it is particularly important to use a test with different properties.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124140113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The significance of HPV genotyping, a method used to identify specific HPV genotypes, has been recognized in recent decades as an important tool for the early detection of cervical cancer risk. In recent years, great progress has been made in understanding HPV molecular biology, a large number of tests have been developed, and there is ongoing research on the association between their diagnostic and therapeutic use. In the conducted research, a diagnostic kit manufactured by Sansure Biotech was used for HPV genotyping. This test comprises pairs of specific primers and specific fluorescent probes for genotyping 15 high-risk HPV genotypes (HPV 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 53, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68). Out of a total of 41 cervical swabs analyzed, 17 were detected positive for 13 specific high-risk HPV genotypes. HPV 18 and HPV 52 genotypes were not detected in any analyzed sample, while HPV 16 (14%) and HPV 31 (17%) were detected with the highest frequency of occurrence. Although the results were obtained on a small number of samples, they have certainly indicated the importance of the application of the mentioned method for detecting oncogenic HPV variants that suggest an increased risk of cervical cancer in women in HPV screening programs in the wider population.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"814 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124498879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Yet, it is the fourth most common type of cancer among women worldwide. According to data from the Cancer Registry of the Institute of Public Health of Serbia \"Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut,\" 1044 newly diagnosed cases were registered among women and 438 women died from this malignant localization in 2019. Human papillomavirus infection (hereinafter referred to as: HPV) is the most important risk factor for the development of cervical cancer. Thanks to the natural course of HPV infection and the biological behaviour of premalignant changes in the cervix, cervical cancer prevention can be carried out at the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention levels. Secondary prevention involves screening (early detection of asymptomatic forms of the disease) and represents an organized mass invitation of the target population of women (aged between 25 and 64 years) for testing and interpretation of test results, followed by quality assurance control and reporting. Organized screening is done at threeyear intervals in the healthy population and allows for detecting not only malignant disease but also precancerous changes whose removal prevents the occurrence of malignant diseases. The methodology used in this paper included the monitoring of screening results performed at the \"Novi Sad\" Health Centre in the period from 2013 to 2022. The documentation of the institution's regular reporting on screening results, which contains depersonalized aggregated data, was used as a data source. In the statistical data analysis, descriptive statistics was used and the data have been presented in tabular form. The Women's Health Care Service with its Cytology laboratory has been the implementer of the organized cervical cancer screening program at the \"Novi Sad\" Health Centre since 2013 (covering a population of 110,067 women aged 25 to 64 for the territory of the municipality of Novi Sad and the municipality of Sremski Karlovci). The gynaecology service of the \"Novi Sad\" Health Centre was highly commended by the Cervical Cancer Screening Office for the results achieved in terms of the highest coverage of the target population and the largest number of Pap smear tests performed. In the period from March 2013 to July 2022, a total of 210,410 swabs, of which 9,469 (4.5%) showed atypia, were taken for screening purposes at the \"Novi Sad\" Health Centre. The aim of the paper was to show the organization of the \"Novi Sad\" Health Centre as well as the results achieved in organized cervical cancer screening, as a secondary prevention measure that can contribute to the reduction in cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates among women.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133599363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Dietary habits of adolescents have a significant impact on their nutritional and health status; establishment of adequate habits is important, due to their impact on growth and development at this stage in life, but also on health consequences in adulthood. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of diet and diet-related behaviours in adolescents aged 11, 13 and 15 in Serbia and to examine their relationship with nutritional status categories. In this paper, data from the Health Behaviour in School-age Children Study in Serbia from 2018 were used. The study was conducted as a cross-sectional study of a national representative sample of adolescents aged 11, 13 and 15. In this study, according to the BMI, 12% of the respondents were underweight, 70.8% were of normal weight, while 17.2% were overweight and obese. When it comes to dietary habits, 59.3% of the respondents regularly eat breakfast during the working week. Fruits are consumed once per day or more often by 42%, and vegetables by 41.5% of the respondents. Sweets are consumed once per day and more often by 35.7% of adolescents, while a fifth of the adolescents drink juices every day, older children more often than the younger. A fifth of the adolescents have snacks every day while watching TV and working/playing on a computer, and the same number have at least one meal per day while watching television, as well. Findings of this study indicate a need for a more intensive health education for adolescents, not just for the purpose of preventing obesity, but also to prevent unwanted diet-related behaviours such as snacking or \"grazing\", skipping meals etc, since dietary habits adopted in childhood and adolescence persist in adulthood.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"218 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130390480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DXA scan (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) is the \"gold standard\" for the diagnosis of osteoporosis, while different serum or urine biomarkers are used in the measurement of bone turnover. PPAR-g belongs to the family of non-steroid nuclear receptors. It is predominantly expressed in adipocytes but it could be found in osteoblasts. Both types share a common precursor cell. Recent studies have indicated the important role of PPAR-g in bone remodeling. Substitution of C to G in an exon of the gene coding for this protein (PPARG) re-sults in Pro to Ala amino acid change at position 12, leading to decreased transcriptional activity of PPARG. The aim of our research was to deter-mine the association between the genotype Pro12Ala polymorphism of the PPARG gene and the value of measured bone mineral density (BMD) as well as biochemical parameters of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. 82 patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis were included in the study. The analysis of the Pro12Ala genotype of the PPARG gene was done by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The Pro12Ala variant (CG genotype) was found in 14 respondents (17%), while the Pro12Pro (CC genotype) was present in 68 patients (83%). There was no statistically significant difference between BMD values concerning the genotype. However, carriers of the G allele (Pro12Ala variant) had significantly higher levels of serum Beta-CTx, a biochemical marker of bone degradation (p=0.019). There was no association found between the Pro12Ala genotype of the PPARG gene and BMD in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis, but the genotype could affect serum Beta-CTx levels indicating increased bone degradation.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"8 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132934755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The student population was greatly affect-ed by the conditions of the pandemic, quarantine and state of emergency. Health risks that dominantly affect the level of health potential of the stu-dent population have been significantly changed in these conditions of life and social functioning. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health risks that students were predominantly exposed to during the coronavirus disease pandemic. The research is designed as a cross-sectional study, and the research technique is a survey. The research instrument is a survey questionnaire, constructed for the needs of this study. The ques-tionnaire examines the health risks to which the student population was exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was conducted in the period from May to June 2022 at the Faculty of Health and Business Studies in Valjevo, Singidunum University. The sample of respondents is not-randomized, 142 students participated in the research. The research was voluntary and anonymous. The majority of students believe that ex-posure to health risks is greater during the pandemic (80%). Health risks that are dominantly present in the student population are an improper diet, increased stress levels, feelings of anxiety and depression, physical inactivity, sleep and rest disorders, cigarette and alcohol consumption, excessive use of social networks. Health risks were more frequent in the population of female students, while health potential and personal per-ception of one's own health were lower in students with chronic diseases and comorbidities. The pandemic conditions negatively affected the health potential of the student population. The presence of health risks can permanently jeopardize young people's health, quality of life and can lead to irreversible consequences. {"title":"HPV test as a primary screening test in the prevention of cervical carcinoma in the Republic of Croatia","authors":"J. Vraneš","doi":"10.5937/serbjph2203323v","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5937/serbjph2203323v","url":null,"abstract":"The knowledge that persistent infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) is a necessary cause of cervical cancer has led to changes in strategies for the prevention and early detection of this cancer, with aim to eradicate it. Primary prevention through the use of vaccines that prevent HPV infection has been implemented since 2006, while secondary prevention of cervical cancer has been significantly improved by the introduction of the HPV test, either as the only method of primary screening or in combination with the Pap test. Screening based on the Pap smear has been unquestionably successful in reducing incidence and mortality in the last century. More recently, there have been gradual changes in the use of the HPV test, from its use as a reflex test after the detection of mild cytological abnormalities, through co-testing, to the use of the HPV test as the only test in primary screening thanks to the evidence gathered from the use of large, randomized research and meta-analysis. The advantages of using the HPV test over the Pap test include a higher sensitivity in detecting premalignant lesions, a higher negative predictive value of the test, and a safe extension of the time interval between screenings. However, the introduction of the HPV test as a primary screening test is not so simple and requires strict testing quality control and elaborate guidelines to ensure an optimal strategy and prevent additional burden on the healthcare system. This review presents the national cervical cancer screening program in the Republic of Croatia, the problems that prevented the start of a pilot project in one Croatian county selected for the introduction of the HPV test as a primary screening test in the prevention of cervical carcinoma, and the tasks ahead in the next period which would ensure the smooth implementation of the pilot project and implement the HPV test as the primary screening test in Croatia. Based on the results of the pilot project, it is necessary to precisely define: the age at which primary HPV testing should start and stop in the cervical cancer screening program, the examination interval after a negative primary HPV test, further procedures with women with a positive primary HPV test, the procedures for conducting reflex cytological testing and further treatment of the patient in accordance with the findings, the possibilities and justification of introducing self-sampling as part of the cervical cancer screening program based on the HPV test as the primary screening test, and finally the type of HPV test that is most suitable for the primary screening in Croatia.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127511930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
