B-group vitamins are among the most frequently used dietary supplements since factors like age, pregnancy, impaired thyroid function, anorexia, genetic factors, use of medication and alcohol increase the needs for B-group vitamins. Given that the above mentioned conditions require supplementation it is necessary that dietary supplements contain the quantities specified on the labeling. It is thus necessary to test their quality i.e., the quantities of active ingredients belonging to B-group vita-mins in dietary supplements to determine if the obtained values comply with the declared ones. Vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6 are important components of the B-complex group. In this study the content of vitamins B1, B2, B3 and B6 was determined in the samples of 29 different dietary supplements present on the market of the Republic of Serbia, using HPLC-DAD method with gradient elution. Obtained results have shown that, of all tested samples, 86.2% comply with the declared values for all four B-group vitamins. Values for vitamin B3 were in accordance with the declared values in all tested supplements. Of other analysed vitamins, B1 fulfilled the declared requirements in 89.7% of samples, while the quantity of active substance of vitamins B2 and B6 was within declared limits in 93.1% of tested dietary supplements. It is necessary to expand this type of studies on a larger number of samples, since controlling the declaration i.e., determining the quantity of specific active components present in supplements indirectly impacts prevention in the population subgroups in need of supplementation.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116652671","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These are diseases of the elderly population, and more common in men. These cancers are multifactorial diseases, with the influence of genetically inherited syndromes and acquired factors such as smoking, obesity, Barrett's oesophagus, and Helicobacter pylori infection. The clinical symptoms include dysphagia, weight loss, mediastinal and abdominal pain, nausea, and malaise. CT examinations of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis, and also esophagogastroduodenoscopy with biopsy and histopathological verification are needed for a complete diagnosis. The most common histological type of oesophageal cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, and most common gastric carcinoma is adenocarcinoma. Screenings for these cancers are not performed routinely, except in countries with a high incidence rate. The most widely accepted TNM classification is used to determine the stage. Oesophageal and gastric cancer treatment is multimodal and includes surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Surgery is the first line of treatment in these cancers, especially in the local stages. Chemotherapy is used in almost all stages of the disease. Radiotherapy has its place in treatment, especially in locally advanced stages. It can be used as postoperative and preoperative radiotherapy, usually in combination with chemotherapy. Treatment of oesophageal and gastric cancers in the future will develop in the direction of advancing diagnostics, surgical procedures, immunotherapeutic agents as well as new radiotherapy techniques.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122659424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To be considered healthy, food must first meet certain principles of rational nutrition, i.e., it should ensure the consumption of optimal quantities of macronutrients, micronutrients and biologically active compounds to promote health. According to diet recommendations, 45-60% of all energy consumption should come from carbohydrates. Foods rich in complex carbohydrates (polysaccharides), especially dietary fibres, which have been confirmed to play a role in the prevention of diabetes mellitus type 2, cardiovascular disease and obesity by numerous scientific studies should be the sources of carbohydrates. In this study, enzymatic-gravimetric method (AOAC 985.29) was used to determine total dietary fibre, while sucrose, D-glucose and D-fructose were quantified using an enzymatic-spectrophotometric method. Total fibre and total sugar content were determined in fifty-eight samples (fruits and vegetables, fruit and vegetable products, baked goods, fine bakery wares and snacks, and cocoa-based products). The highest total sugar content was found in dried apricots (53.6 g/100 g) and the lowest in chopped mushrooms (0.2 g/100 g), which also had the lowest total carbohydrate content (2.8 g/100 g). The highest carbohydrate content was observed in shelf-stable sweet pastries (68.5 g/100 g), while the highest percentage of the recommended daily allowance per serving for dietary fibre was found in raspberries (40.0%) and in boiled legumes (26.7-36.4%). Relevant data for dietary fibre and sugar is of interest as it is important for maintaining good health and preventing certain diseases, and for formulating diet recommendations for both the population at risk and the general population.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130422874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The effects of radiation depend on the energy and type of radiation, the matter through which the radiation passes, the radiation dose and the phase of the cell cycle. The nature of ionizing radiation contributes to the importance of the topic of radiological examinations of pregnant women, i.e. the possible risk for pregnancy and the fetus. The risk of fetal damage depends on the absorbed dose of radiation and the stage of pregnancy. The risk is highest during organogenesis and in the early fetal period, it is slightly lower in the second trimester and the lowest during the third trimester of pregnancy. The aim of this review article is to present the dilemmas and ethical problems faced by clinicians and pregnant women in everyday radiological practice. The radiologist is obliged to inform the patient about the planned procedure, the way it is performed and possible complications, but communicating the diagnosis and proposing therapy, if necessary, should be the responsibility of the doctor who referred the patient for examination. When considering the use of radiation in pregnant women, the International Commission on Radiological Protection advises that the fetus be considered a member of the general population and that general radiation dose limits apply. Accordingly, in evaluating the risks and benefits of medical radiation exposure, two persons must be considered, the mother and child. When everything is taken into account, the risk of a radiological examination for the pregnant woman and the fetus, i.e. the relationship between the benefit and the risk is assessed in relation to each individual case separately, in agreement between the doctor, the pregnant woman and other interested persons.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134368032","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in lowand middle-income countries substantial reductions in cervical cancer incidence rates have not been achieved, mainly due to the difficulties in realization of complex conditions for implementing high quality cytology-based cervical cancer screening programs. Most international guidelines, including the World Health Organisation (WHO) Global Strategy, now recommend high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) testing as the preferred cervical screening test, for several reasons, primarily due to its sensitivity, less subjectivity in diagnosis and possibility of easier program organization and implementation. The advantages of primary hrHPV screening include higher sensitivity of technology compared to cytology based examinations, and increased specificity in populations where large proportions of women have been vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV), while the high-negative predictive value enables prolongation of screening intervals to 7 to 10 years, which increases the cost effectiveness of the screening programme, when applied at population level. Also, primary hrHPV screening for cervical cancer can be carried out by self-taken samples which increases the feasibility of such cervical cancer screening programme. However, implementing primary hrHPV cervical cancer screening requires at the same time organised system of monitoring the implementation of the program, coordination and quality assurance of all processes within the implementation of cervical cancer screening.Effective hrHPV primary cervical cancer screening programme requires the triage of hrHPV positive women to maximise the detection of clinically relevant cervical lesions for further investigation. Most of the countries that introduced hrHPV primary cervical cancer screening use visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA), cytology based examination or HPV geno-typing with cytology for triage testing. The choice of triage strategy depends on various factors, including availability of resources, effectiveness and cost of procedures to recall women for triage testing as well as the capacity and quality of existing health services to deliver the triage tests. Implementation of self-sampling also requires a number of issues to be addressed, including communication to motivate participation and to inform women about the self-sampling procedure, delivery of the self-sampling kits and return of the samples to the laboratories, laboratory procedures, communication of results, recalling screen-positive women for further examination and triage and motivating them to attend for follow-up and treatment. Finally, the introduction primary screening for HPV on the mucous membrane of the cervix should be accompanied by awareness-raising programs to improve the information and knowledge o","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131045716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The World Health Organization (WHO) uses the term \"quality of life\" to define the individuals' perception of their position in life in the context of their culture and values, and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns, to express a wide range of changes in the life of a person. Some of these changes are either caused or affected by eating habits that often present in a form of eating disorders. In recent decades, there has been growing interest in finding adequate questionnaires to help identify and measure the severity of eating disorders, as well as the quality of life of these patients. Several studies have been conducted on this topic, and scientific evolution and progress will be discussed in detail below to identify the most appropriate questionnaire to assist clinicians in their therapeutic practices. The primary objective is the detailed identification and classification of eating disorders in line with the most recent findings. The secondary objective is identification and classification of the questionnaires for testing eating disorders and quality of life. We conducted a review of the current research into developing the possibility of detecting eating disorders and potential health risks in untreated patients. The following index data bases were digitally searched: PubMed-Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane database of systematic reviews, Embase, Epistemonikos, all searched up to August 2022. The combination of keywords revised in the list of medical subject headings (MeSH) was used to select relevant articles: (eating disorders) and (tests and/or questionnaires for eating disorders and quality of life). The analysis included meta-analyses, systematic reviews and original scientific articles. Special attention was paid to the discussion on identifying and providing insight into eating disorders in line with the latest findings, as well as to the examination and description of questionnaires for exploring eating disorders and quality of life. Among the first questionnaires used in practice to assess the quality of life of patients with eating disorders were Short Form-36 (SF-36) and the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-K). Although generic questionnaires were applied and had produced good results, there is still no specific questionnaire on the quality of life of persons with eating disorders. New discoveries emerge as the search continues for highly specialized and sensitive questionnaires. Several instruments and questionnaires are used to get a final result in several studies investigating the connection between the intensity of symptoms caused by eating disorders and the quality of life, which shall be discussed below. Great progress has been made in evaluating and designing appropriate questionnaires to help clinicians and researchers in diagnosti","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128463390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recognizing this problem, the European Commission has been continuously investing funds into projects aimed against cancer for the past decade. One such project is the Joint Action \"Innovative Partnership for Action Against Cancer\", which launched in April 2018 and will wrap up in December 2021. The project is implemented within the Third Health Programme of the European Union, which funded the project. \"Innovative Partnership for Action Against Cancer\" encompasses 24 countries, representing 44 partner institutions. The National Institute of Public Health of Slovenia (NIPHS) coordinates the project. Project activities are implemented within 10 work packages, of which four are horizontal and mandatory (coordination, dissemination, evaluation and integration into national policies and sustainability), while 6 are the so-called \"vertical\" work packages, namely: cancer prevention, genomics in cancer control and care, cancer information and registries, challenges in cancer care, innovative therapies in cancer and governance of integrated and comprehensive cancer care. Each of the work packages has its objectives, activities and outcomes. The roadmap for implementation and sustainability of cancer control actions represents the key outcome of work package 4 (Integration in national policies and sustainability), as well as of the entire Joint Action. Work package 4 interviewed the representatives of countries participating in Joint Action to gain insight into their experiences and challenges in implementing cancer control policies. Some of these challenges have also been recognized in Serbia, leading the Government of the Republic of Serbia to adopt the cancer control program in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2020-2022. In the same year, 2020, the World Cancer Day (4 February) was commemorated with the event \"Europe's Beating Cancer Plan - Let's Strive for More\" in the European Parliament, and a year later, the European Commission presented the Europe's Beating Cancer Plan. Healthcare quality indicators are statistical and quantitative measures of healthcare processes and outcomes used to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of patient treatment and care. They are determined according to the healthcare organisation level, types of health institutions and branches of medicine. This article presents a trend analysis of the selected healthcare quality indicators at the Institute of Orthopaedic Surgery Banjica (IOS Banjica) for the period from 2008 to 2021 in the light of the impact of the implemented quality improvement measures. A comparative review of healthcare quality indicators was also made for 2019 for IOS Banjica and similar tertiary institutions: Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology of Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology of the Clinical Centre of Serbia, Orthopaedic Surgery and Trauma Centre of the Clinical Centre of Kragujevac and Orthopaedic and Trauma Clinic of the Clinical Centre in Niš to gain an insight of the situation in different institutions prior to COVID-19 and analyse the most common indicators. The following quality indicators have been analysed: average length of hospital treatment, average number of preoperative hospital days, rate of first outpatient appointments, rate of decubitus, and percentage of nurse's discharge letters. When interpreting the results, it should be taken into account that IOS Banjica operated as a COVID hospital in three periods in 2020 and 2021, which had a significant impact on its operation at this time. Analysis of work quality indicators for the period from 2008 to 2021 showed an improvement in the quality of work of IOS Banjica. In comparison with other similar institutions, IOS Banjica monitored more work quality indicators in the previous period. Despite the numerous problems the healthcare system has faced in recent years, IOS Banjica has managed to maintain a quality improvement trend and to make a great contribution, both through its teaching and scientific work, as well as its surgical work, seeking to provide the maximum level of expertise, quality and dedication to its patients through continuous training of staff and use of state-of-the-art technology and implants.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130342039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of work-family conflict among healthcare professionals and healthcare associates in healthcare institutions in the municipality of Ćuprija. The research was designed as a cross-sectional study conducted in the healthcare institutions of the Ćuprija Primary Healthcare Center, the Ćuprija General Hospital and the Pomoravlje Institute of Public Health, on a sample of 601 employed healthcare professionals and healthcare associates, during 2020. To assess the work-family roles conflict, the conflict of work and family roles scale was used, which examines two dimensions of the work-family conflict: the work-family conflict and the family-work conflict. Statistical processing of data was performed in the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 25.00) software package. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to examine the correlation between the research variables, while parametric techniques were used to examine the differences between the research variables: the t-test and the ANOVA. The respondents show a slightly more pronounced level of the work-family conflict, and a lower level of the family-work conflict. Statistically significant differences were found in terms of the intensity of dimensions of the work and family roles conflict (work-family and family-work) in relation to age, work experience and the respondents' professional status. More emphasis should be placed on researching the issue of work-family conflict in order to implement appropriate preventive measures to reduce the existing conflicts.","PeriodicalId":438201,"journal":{"name":"Glasnik javnog zdravlja","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125662294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
