Therefore, it has been widely studied and many solutions can be found in the literature. However, most existing multicast protocols are tailored to a specific type of mobility pattern and therefore are unable to excel in face of heterogeneous topology stability conditions. This paper proposes and evaluates TSAMP, a Topology Stability-Aware Multicast Protocol for MANETs that exploits locally perceived mobility conditions in order to promote the use of stable routes, when available.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"90 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133204944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, the usage of SIP-based (Session Initiation Protocol) VoIP devices has known a significant growth in domestic environments, either in the form of standalone (e.g. SIP telephones) or embedded devices (as it happens with some domestic gateways, which embed analog-to-SIP adaptors). For Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the provisioning and management of those devices is a challenge — especially standalone SIP phones, since most of them were exclusively designed for corporate LAN usage, not supporting adequate mechanisms for remote management over broadband access networks. In this paper we propose a framework which allows the integration of off-the-shelf SIP phones with the CWMP protocol suite, the prevailing standard for remote management of Customer Premises Devices (CPEs) in broadband access networks. This integration framework supports the vast majority of commercially available SIP phones whilst maintaining full compatibility with the original CWMP specification — thus allowing ISPs to reuse their CWMP management infrastructure to configure and provision off-the-shelf SIP telephones.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134180977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this kind of network suffer from poor fundamental limits of latency during the data communication. Another model of WSN assumes a heterogeneous set of nodes with different capabilities (especially in terms of communication range and energy reserves) called Heterogeneous Sensor Networks (HSNs). In this work, we propose a tree-based approach based on small world concepts to design HSNs. The proposed model introduces an adjustable search space in order to find H-sensors to create shortcuts between them. The endpoints of these shortcuts are nodes with more powerful communication range and energy reserves to support the long communication range. The model was designed in such a way that the created shortcuts among the powerful nodes create a connected topology among them. As a consequence of this, it is not necessary that the nodes with lower capabilities forward messages as a bridge to interconnect the shortcuts. Simulation results showed that with just a few powerful nodes, a wireless sensor network can be tuned into a HSN with small world features. Also, when the shortcut addition creates a connected topology among the H-sensors, the data communication latency is significantly reduced.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120959993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a new framework to detect anomalies and to provide early alerts for flooding attacks in backbone networks. Thus allow to quickly react in order to prevent the flooding attacks from strangling the victim server and its access network. The proposed detection scheme is based on the application of Least Mean Square (LMS) filter and Pearson Chi-square divergence on randomly aggregated flows in Sketch data structure. Instead of analyzing one time series for overall traffic, random aggregation of flows is used to investigate a fixed number of time series for grained analysis. Least mean square filter is used to predict the next value of the time series based on previous values, and Pearson Chi-square divergence is used to measure the deviations between the current and estimated probability distributions. We evaluate our approach using publicly available real IP traces (MAWI) collected from the WIDE backbone network, on trans-Pacific transit link between Japan and USA. Our experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms existing techniques in terms of detection accuracy and false alarm rate. It is able to detect low intensity attacks covered by the large number of traffic in high speed network.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116536409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hierarchical cooperation scheme has a digital architecture and requires quantization of MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) observations in the third phase. The choice of the number of quantization bits Q has direct effect on the pre-constant factor of the network throughput. By increasing the number of quantization bits, the MIMO capacity in the second phase increases at the expense of higher computational complexity of the third phase. We investigate such trade-off and show that there is an optimum number of quantization bits which maximizes the throughput. In addition, it will be shown that due to quantization noise, it is not possible to increase throughput pre-constant factor as large as desired by increasing transmit power. As a result, there is a saturation value for the pre-constant value. Finally, we will demonstrate that by proper scaling of Q as Q = β log(SNR) for any β independent of SNR, an increasing pre-constant factor of order √log(SNR) can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124747804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Routine messages exchanged in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs) include crucial information for safety applications such as direction, position, etc. A vehicle failure and/or a malicious vehicle transmitting false information may affect the data collection scheme and cause a disturbance for safety applications. In such a scenario, (1) the faulty/malicious vehicle should be detected rapidly and (2) routine messages exchange should be updated in consequence. To be able to detect the faulty/malicious vehicle, we developed a mechanism that collects, at a single vehicle, data regarding each neighbour transmission, and extracts the temporal correlation rules between vehicles implicated in transmissions in the neighbourhood. With the mechanism, called VANETs Association Rules Mining (VARM), a mining process will take place during a-priori constant historical period. The associations rules formulated during the mining process will be used to detect a faulty or malicious vehicle, i.e., a vehicle which is not correlated with vehicles in the neighbourhood following these rules. To react after this kind of anomaly detection, an 1:N technique is used as a protection for reestablishing the accuracy of the data collection process between vehicles communicating in the neighbourhood. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the VARM scheme.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128540779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the contrary, the smartphone industry is advancing quickly. Existing smartphones are endowed with multiple wireless interfaces and high computational power, being able to perform a wide variety of tasks. By combining smartphones with existing vehicles through an appropriate interface we are able to move closer to the smart vehicle paradigm, offering the user new functionalities and services when driving. In this paper we propose an Android-based application that monitors the vehicle through an On Board Diagnostics (OBD-II) interface, being able to detect accidents. Our proposed application estimates the G force experienced by the passengers in case of a frontal collision, which is used together with airbag triggers to detect accidents. The application reacts to positive detection by sending details about the accident through either e-mail or SMS to pre-defined destinations, immediately followed by an automatic phone call to the emergency services. Experimental results using a real vehicle show that the application is able to react to accident events in less than 3 seconds, a very low time, validating the feasibility of smartphone based solutions for improving safety on the road.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129296327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
