Therefore, a lot of incentive schemes have been proposed to promote the cooperation of the nodes. The utilization of the incentive schemes makes the nodes willing to cooperate with each other, because their non-cooperation can be punished in the future. However, the activities of the nodes in ad hoc networks have some inherent uncertainty. For example, the batteries of some nodes are exhausted or some nodes move to other regions. Under these situations, the existing incentive schemes are no longer effective and the nodes have to terminate their cooperation and stop forwarding packets for others. In this paper, we propose a power control mechanism in ad hoc networks under a dynamic repeated game-theoretic framework. A notion of nodes' evaluation levels for the future experiences is defined to take account of the non-cooperation due to the inherent uncertainty in the ad hoc network nodes' activities. The nodes achieve their optimal transmission efficiency by using a two-step power control mechanism. The simulation results show that compared with the existing schemes our power control mechanism considering non-cooperative packet forwarding improves the average transmission efficiency by approximately 25%.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124402189","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to this high density of nodes, it is very likely that both spatially correlated information and redundant data be detected by several nearby nodes, which can be exploited to save energy by these nodes that are sensing an event. In this work, we propose an Energy-Aware Spatial Correlation mechanism (ESC) based on correlation regions to perform efficient data collection. The sensed information of a region is forwarded to the sink by only one node inside that region. Also, the area of a correlation region can be changed dynamically by the sink node to achieve the required accuracy of the sensed information. Simulation results show that using ESC, an event can be sensed with 97% of accuracy, and 75% of the nodes' residual energy can be saved within the phenomena area when compared with the classical approach for data collection.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124413298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To transmit sensor data like GPS, temperature, or vital signs data robust communication networks are needed. Different applications and sensor types may have specific requirements to the transmission of their data regarding loss-tolerance, timeliness, priority, or completeness. These requirements are typically met by appropriate transport protocols. At the lower layers, heterogeneous networks like wireless mesh networks or long thin networks lead to specific channel characteristics that may require the use of specifically adapted transport protocols. Additionally, the type of scenario can also affect the transport layer, e.g., a scenario with static nodes compared to moving nodes with high mobility. Of course, there are many variable requirements of different sensor data streams and applications. But there are also some basic functionalities that are common, such as registering sensors at a receiver, timestamping of sensor data as well as synchronization of all nodes. Thus, we specify a new protocol for sensor data transmission and management (STMP) that provides the basic functionalities required by many sensor data streams while at the same time allowing a flexible choice of the transport protocol to be used.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115849404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The motivation behind the use of ECDSA is that it is integrated into the IEEE P802.11s/D4.0 standard. We have used the ECDSA technique to secure control message in HWMP, namely PREQ (Path Request) and PREP (Path Reply). In these Control messages, we are interested only by mutable fields (i.e. fields that change during control packet exchange). Simulation results show that the ECDSA-HWMP does not too much a long overhead compared to the orignal HWMP.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"47 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123651804","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, TOs are partitioned into five cases based on how they occur. Then the mathematical models for different cases are derived. Considering CFOs and benefiting from the obtained models, closed-form expression for the SINR in each case is derived. It is proved that, SINR is independent of the observed subcarrier for the given TO and CFO. Besides, it is shown that the performance of the affected system deteriorates rapidly as the number of subcarriers increases. It is also revealed that, as far as the guard interval is longer than the channel delay spread, the SINR is not much sensitive to the number of channel taps and power delay profile.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122871053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cooperative communication is becoming a promising technology to increase the channel capacity of wireless networks. The assignment of relay nodes to users plays a critical role to the resulting channel capacity. A significant challenge is how to make the assignment scheme robust to selfish and cheating behavior of users while guaranteeing the social optimal system capacity. In this keynote, we will present an integrated optimal relay assignment scheme for cooperative networks. To avoid system performance degradation due to selfish relay selections by the users, we propose a payment mechanism for charging the users to induce them to converge to the optimal assignment. To prevent relay nodes from manipulating the relay assignment by reporting transmission powers untruthfully, we propose a payment mechanism to pay them for providing relaying service.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122736318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, each sensor node needs its own energy supply unit. Sustainable WSNs are powered by energy harvesting systems (EHSs). These systems harvest and buffer the energy from the environment into rechargeable batteries or double layer capacitors. Due to the fact that the connectivity of the WSN depends on every single sensor node, it is important to know the state-of-charge (SoC) of the buffer to determine the remaining operating time. Therefore, each node has to measure its SoC, calculate the remaining operating time and populate this information through the network. The measurement is usually done by an integrated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) of the microcontroller. Each ADC has a specified error that has to be taken into account at the calculations of the remaining operating time. This work presents the error analysis of the SoC measurement using different energy storage components.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126169509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to bound the estimation error of passive measurement for both small and large flows, previous probabilistic counter updating algorithms used linear or nonlinear sampling function to automatically adjust the sampling rate. However, each of these methods employed a pre-set and fixed sampling function during the measurement period. As a result, the performance would vary for different flow distributions. In this paper, we propose a Smart Selection Sampling (S3) approach, which can tune the sampling function to reach a comparatively lower relative error. The key component of S3 is a heuristic algorithm leveraging the flow distribution information to determine a better sampling function so as to achieve better measurement accuracy. Experiments under real trace and synthetic traces demonstrate that S3 is more accurate than the previous work if given the same memory sizes to accommodate flow statistics counters.","PeriodicalId":437953,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 36th Conference on Local Computer Networks","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-10-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127318234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

High data rates (approaching 100 Mbit/s in the downlink direction and 50 Mbit/s for uplink connections) and small delays are attractive features of LTE. Spectrum flexibility also makes deployment easy on various frequency bands in different parts of the world. However, as LTE offers packet switched services only, mobile broadband connectivity has become the dominant LTE application so far. This paper studies user-perceived quality of service for a mobile Voice over IP (VoIP) application in LTE.
