The purpose of the study was to describe the culture of patient safety in hospitalization services from the perspective of the nursing personal, at the Tumbes Regional Hospital 2018. Descriptive-exploratory, quantitative study; With a census sample of 80 nurses, a survey was applied to collect the information, obtaining as a result that the patient safety culture of the nursing staff is on a neutral average with 91.3%, followed by positive in 5.0% and negative in 3.75%. It is concluded that the Safety Culture of the Patient of the nurses is neutral, but it can be improved, being negative the perception of personnel endowment and neutral in teamwork between the services and the Expectations and Actions in patient safety, identifying strengths in the dimensions of personnel, team work, and positive in the Expectations and Actions in patient safety, and the weaknesses identified in eight dimensions in our organization so it is necessary to establish strategic lines of work that help minimize adverse events in our patients .","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116160337","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It represents the most common nosocomial infection among surgical patients. It causes increased morbidity, mortality, hospital stay, and readmission and treatment costs. Objective: Surgical site infection and associated factors among adult patients in East and West Gojjam hospitals. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among 165 patients. Study participants were selected by systematic sampling method. Data were collected by using interviewer administered questionnaire and observation checklists. Logistic regression model were computed to identify the association between outcome and predictor variables. Result: Nearly one- fourth, 42 (25.5%) of the participants were developed surgical site infections. Among these, 38 (90.5%) were in-hospital infections and 4(9.5%) were readmissions. Smoking cigarettes [AOR=6.3(19.3-21)], diabetic comorbidity [AOR=16.7(4.3-65)], extremity surgery [AOR =1.2(3.1-7.4)], and absence of wound care [AOR=21[3-26.1) were factors associated with surgical site infection. Conclusion and recommendations: Prevalence of surgical site infection was relatively high. The most important factors associated with surgical site infection were smoking, diabetic co-morbidity, location of surgery and wound care. Therefore, health care providers should give proper wound care, screen and manage comorbidities like diabetic and educate the impact of cigarette smoking to patients.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122533242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Background: Higher levels of perceived control over one’s chronic heart disease are associated with lower levels of psychological distress and a higher quality of life. Design: The study has an explorative and descriptive design using a directed manifest qualitative content analysis according to Marring. Methods: The analysis was based on nine interviews with four men and five women aged between 62-85 years, diagnosed with chronic heart failure. The study followed consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research (COREQ). Results: Five categories emerged in the analysis, mirroring a step-by-step process. The first step, insecurity, was followed by evaluation, management and adjustment. The patients finally reached a higher level of perceived control over their lives in relation to their heart disease. Conclusions: Most of the patients stated that they could assess and manage symptoms and had adapted to their condition, which increased their level of perceived control. Relevance to clinical practice: These findings suggest that managing symptoms is important for strengthen the patients with chronic heart failure. The findings can help health care professionals in communication with the patient planning for self-care actions.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132960710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the majority of patients will survive due to early detection and the evolution and availability of effective treatments, such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, hormonotherapy and, most frequently, the surgical removal of the breast or breasts (increasingly less radical) or part of thereof, known as mastectomy, thus improving chances of survival. This provides evidence as to the need to link breast cancer treatment to care that enables a better quality of life for women whose body has undergone suffering and a therapeutically necessary mutilation, which should be echoed in new paradigms for bodily care. This suggests a further need for a theoretical reflection on professional nursing care for patients who have undergone mastectomy treatment for breast cancer, comprising an analysis of the theoretical proposals of authors such as Leonardo Boff, Mayeroff and David Le Breton. These authors reveal that one cannot deal with emotions, feelings and thoughts without a body, nor can one care for a body without emotions, feelings and thoughts. This leads to the conclusion that the psychosocial care of the body/woman requires an integrated care that represents, for the nursing professional, a process involving not only the act of nursing but also the human being in its entirety.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129436447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: To identify the level of nausea, vomiting, insomnia, fatigue among the control and experimental group children before chemotherapy administration. 2,3,4,5 are to assess the efficacy of EFM in reducing the CINV, Insomnia, and Fatigue among children with haematological and solid tumours respectively. Materials & methods: The tool consists of 3 sections. I Demographic profile, II Clinical profile, III Modified (NCICTC) version 3.0 was used to explore the AE of chemotherapy and its severity. Sampling technique adopted cluster randomization, the size 140 children the first 70 were selected for the control group and the next 70 were allotted for the experimental group. The Factorial research design was used [2 X 4 X 10 (2 X 5)] with repeated measures for the last variable. Results: The non-significant PCL- AE assessment between the control and experimental groups shows that both groups were more or less similar and comparable. The significant ‘P’ value of the highest order of interaction effect between Assessment, Drug and Group confirms that children in the experimental group who received FM the AE of nausea (P=0.016), vomiting (P=.001), Insomnia (P=0.000) and fatigue (P=0.000) Conclusion: The EFM, significantly, reduces the chemotherapy AE such as nausea, vomiting, insomnia and fatigue.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123607631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
