Background: Pressure injuries occur in patients both in acute and chronic care settings and place a considerable burden on patients, caregivers, and the health-care system. Pressure injuries are one of the most costly and physically incapacitating problems, contributing to disability and death by prolonging the time of illness, recovery, and hospitalization. Methods: Hospital based cross-sectional study was done among 215 nurses in North Shewa Zone Hospitals in Oromia Region, Ethiopia from January 1, 2019 to February 30, 2019. Epi data version 3.1 was used to enter data, which was then exported to SPSS version 25 for analysis. Significant determinants for nurses' pressure injury prevention practice were identified using bivariable and multivariable logistic regression. Results: 215 nurses, out of 230 study participants were responded to the questionnaires making 93.5% response rate. The magnitude of nurses’ pressure injury prevention practice was found to be 43.7% and level of education, AOR 2.075 (95% CI, 1.143-3.765), knowledge, AOR 2.484 (95% CI, 1.303-4.737), training, AOR 2.498 (95% CI, 1.342-4.648), Nurses to patients ratio, AOR 2.306 (95% CI, 1.242-4.281), work experience AOR 1.842 (1.00-3.394) and satisfaction with nursing leadership, AOR 2.395 (95% CL, 1.259-4.554) were determinants of pressure injury prevention practice. Lack of institutional policy and presences of other priorities other than pressure injury were the common barriers for implementing pressure injury prevention practice. Conclusions: In this study the majority of nurses had poor practice towards pressure injury prevention. Education, knowledge, training, Nurses to patients ratio, work experience and satisfaction with nursing leadership were factors affecting pressure injury prevention practice of nurses. Recommendations: Implementing strategies that improve pressure injury knowledge, providing on job training, increased educational levels, allocating appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios and encouraging nursing leadership help to improve nurses’ pressure injury prevention practice.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116237398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To control and prevent COVID-19 and save lives, preventive and protective measures have been encouraged globally. Nurses and midwives have been among the most vulnerable groups to COVID-19 infection because their jobs involve heightened exposure to COVID-19-infected patients. This survey study aimed to investigate protective measures against COVID-19 for nurses and midwives. This was a descriptive quantitative survey study. The sample was 1706 nurses and midwives. A self-reported survey questionnaire was used to collect the data on protective measures against COVID-19 for nurses and midwives. Data were analysed through descriptive statistics. The study found that the majority of nurses and midwives did not receive COVID-19 training. Despite this, they were willing to care for COVID-19 patients and aware of methods for preventing COVID-19 infection. In addition, most participants had taken COVID-19 preventive precautions. Almost two-thirds of participants were vaccinated against COVID-19, and a vast majority had used appropriate PPE as a protective device against it.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131717737","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Effective TB control is hampered by the evolution of drug resistance to TB treatments. Objective: The study assessed the impact of nurse-led health education on factors affecting non-compliance to anti-tuberculosis drug regimens among pulmonary tuberculosis patients in referral hospitals, Delta state, Nigeria. Method: A quasi-experimental design involving intervention and control groups was employed, and a sample of 198 was drawn from the total population of 360 patients, using the multistage sampling technique. The study three-phased work, pre-intervention, intervention and post-intervention. A self-developed validated structured questionnaire and checklist developed by the researchers were used for data collection. The pre-post-test was administered to both the intervention and control groups while only the intervention group received health education intervention. Post-test data were collected from both groups one (1) month after the health education intervention groups. Findings were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Inferential statistics were used for group comparisons and tested the impact of the intervention. Independent sample t-test and chi-square were used for group comparison at a 5% level of significance. Result: Baseline findings revealed that long duration of taking the drugs, discontinuance due to feeling of side effects and relief from ailment were identified as the most common factors affecting compliance to PTB drug regimen at the pre-intervention phase [long duration: con. (38.9%), int. (91.1%); side effects: con. (10.0%), int. (90.0%); feeling relief: con. (6.7%), int. (90.0%)] the post-intervention impact of the contributory factors to non-compliance was drastically reduced in the intervention than in the control group. Health education had a significant effect on compliance with the TB drug regimen. Conclusion: The study concluded that health education has a significant impact on factors affecting compliance. The study recommends that TB education should be adopted as part of the referral centres’ management policy.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115090681","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These patients have improved with antiretroviral drugs; but there is an increased risk of toxicity and cardiac disease, including cardiac arrhythmias. Objective: To clinically characterize patients with HIV/AIDS who presented adverse reactions due to the consumption of antiretroviral, as well as to estimate the prevalence ratio of cardiac arrhythmias. Method: Descriptive and cross-sectional study, which made possible the clinical characterization and the relationship of ART with general adverse reactions, including cardiac arrhythmias, in the General Clinical-Surgical Teaching Hospital Dr. “Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso” in the period 2018-2020. Results: Adverse reactions related to oropharyngeal candidiasis were marked, representing 80%. Antiretroviral treatment was very unfavorable for Scheme I, with 66.6% of adverse reactions. Esophagus-gastritis and cardio toxicity marked the differences, with 28 (53.8%) and 14 (55.8%) respectively. The ratio between patients with cardiac arrhythmias versus those without arrhythmias is reasonably higher in those who consumed antiretroviral compared those who did not consume it. Conclusion: Adverse reactions in patients with HIV/AIDS continue to be a health problem in our territory, demonstrating the relationship between adverse reactions and antiretroviral treatment with Cuban generics, especially due to gastrointestinal effects and cardiac arrhythmias. The drug-disease interaction results a complex but indisputably frequent process in patients with HIV/AIDS.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132894144","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Background: COVID-19 directly or indirectly, affects the cardiovascular system it not only causes myocardial injury but also reduces the incidence and increasing the severity and mortality of Ischemic Heart Disease patients and it was seen that pneumonia and influenza infections increases the risk of acute MI by six folds. Methods: Data collected from health records of patients admitted in National Heart Institute from Ischemic Heart Disease in comparable four months period of before (Oct 2019-Jan 2020) and during (Oct 2020-Jan 2021)COVID-19 by using a self-structured bio physiological tool. The total samples taken were 421 out of which 237 were before COVID-19 and 184 were during COVID-19. STARD checklist used to report the study. Results: The major findings of the study reveals that incidence of ischemic heart disease indicates that before COVID-19 incidence was 13.32% whereas the incidence of ischemic heart disease during COVID-19 was 12.69%. This means incidence decreases during COVID-19 as compared to before COVID-19. Severity scores measured before COVID-19 showed the majority of the patient (61.2%) having no severity as compared to during COVID-19 whereas the majority of patients having mild (41.8%) and moderate (1.1%) severity as compared to before COVID-19. Mortality of ischemic heart disease indicates that before COVID-19 in-hospital mortality was 1.28% whereas in-hospital mortality of ischemic heart disease during COVID-19 was 0.54%. Conclusion: From findings the study interprets that incidence and in-hospital mortality of Ischemic Heart Disease patients decreases during COVID-19 as compared to before COVID-19, whereas the severity of Ischemic Heart Disease symptoms increases during COVID-19 as compared to before COVID-19. Implication: Patients are staying away from the hospital due to fear of contracting the infection which in return act as a major issue of increasing Ischemic Heart Disease severity so, the nurses should involve in a proactive campaign to alleviate patient concern and encourage them to seek timely medical attention despite the COVID-19 pandemic.","PeriodicalId":437508,"journal":{"name":"Nursing & Care Open Access Journal","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129959239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
