Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of online learning in veterinary anatomy, as well as the theoretical and practical outcomes that resulted from it. it compares the exam scores of students in both teaching methods (conventional and E-learning). About 100 students were used in this study. Furthermore, it demonstrated the students' practical knowledge in the area of E-online learning. The first semester was dedicated to formal education. The second semester was completed entirely online. The findings revealed that during lectures, complex involvement in online activities is substantially reduced. The awareness of students was assessed by comparing student grades from these three semesters. In comparison to traditional schooling, the exam results showed an irregular distribution in E-learning and online tests, with E-learning scores substantially higher. During the E-learning time, the functional laboratory was completely absent. The practical part, of the veterinary anatomy classes, involves laboratory participation to show students various systems of the animals and enable them to use different techniques, training them for future classes such as clinical and surgical classes. The results revealed that reached the conclusion that e-learning is inadequate for teaching veterinary anatomy.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129502064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The samples were attended for the anatomical study on the thyro-laryngeal region. Characteristic features of the latter were declared out, outer landmarks, superficial and deep anatomical structures as well as their relations. The anatomical work in this study tried to set the guidelines for surgeons during the critical interferencein regards to scanty literature. Thyro-laryngeal surgery is indicated for malignant and benign ne-oplasms or hyperplasia of the organs of this region. The ventral midline cervical approach is the most common approach. Caution should be taken to avoid the surrounding neurovascular structures and esophagus. Evaluation of thyroid gland, mandibular salivary glands, and related anatomical structures should be considered before pro-ceeding with surgery. Complications of thyro-laryngeal surgeries include in-traoperative hemorrhage and post-op-erative clinical signs associated with damage to the recurrent laryngeal nerve, parathyroid blood or parathyroidectomy.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125494644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The limited body of evidence about this condition in cats and dogs suggests it is very rare. There does not seem to be a predisposition in certain breeds. The condition is diagnosed usually early and life and is usually medically treated. Despite surgery being a viable option in humans, it is rarely performed in animals. Unfortunately, there is still significant mortality regardless of treatment strategy. Additionally, a lot of animals are not treated at all. Further research is necessary to obtain more insights in the epidemiology of the condition and to assess the different treatment strategies. Retrospective studies should be considered, since prospective trials may be unfeasible due to the rarity of the condition. Subsequently, standard treatment protocols could be developed.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129083134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty (20) adult African striped ground squirrels were used for this study (10 males and 10 females). The ground squirrels were obtained from the surrounding villages of Zaria Local Government, Kaduna state Nigeria. Each Squirrel was euthanized using ketamine hydrochloride at 80mg/kg bw followed by gentle perfusion with neutral formal saline. A pair of scissors, chisel and scalpel blade were used to gently extract the brain (craniotomy). The extracted brain was fixed in Bouin’s fluid for 24 hours and processed histologically. Morphometrically, the absolute brain weight was higher in male than female while the brain length was higher in female. The absolute weight of medulla oblongata was significantly higher in male than female (p<0.05). Stereologically, the neuronal volume of medulla oblongata was higher in female squirrel than in male while male squirrel has higher neuronal number of pons and medulla oblongata. In conclusion, the higher brain morphometry in male squirrels may be suggestive of a higher locomotive activity and a good climbing ability than the female counterpart.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124616173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twenty-four wild adult catfish with average weight of 1000.00 ± 0.00 gm was used during both periods. They measured a standard body length of 50.17±1.01 cm (rainy) and 44.83 ± 2.09 cm (dry). The fish were sourced from Zaria dam and transported live to Gross Anatomy Laboratory in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. Each fish was euthanized using tricaine anaesthetic at 8 drops/litre of water. The ovaries were extracted, weighed and fixed in Bouin’s fluid for 24 hours, and processed histologically. Grossly, the ovaries were observed to be well-developed and highly vascularized during rainy period while, regressed and poorly vascularized ovaries were seen during dry period. The mean weight of the ovaries (0.025) and Gonado-somatic index (GSI) value (0.034) were significantly higher during rainy period. Histologically, the ovaries were predominated by vitellogenic and post-vitellogenic follicles during rainy period while, previtellgenic follicles predominates dry periods. The tunica albuginea and interstitial connective tissues were thin during rainy period but thick during dry period. Hence, the result of this study revealed that wild adult catfish spawns during rainy period while, dry period is characterized by low gonadal activities in Zaria, Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128047424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to describe the correlation between the body weight and age to the front feet sole area of Merino ram. These objectives were achieved by performing measurements of front feet sole of fifteen Merino rams. Measurements were taken every month started from one-month-old until six-month-old. All data were modeled using analytical MARS (Multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline Longitudinal). Data analysis resulted an equation model: Y = 11. 575 + 0.95 * BF2 (BF1 = max (0, weight – 8.000); BF2 = max (0, age – 1.000) * BF1 for front right foot sole area and Y = 20.582-0.683 * BF2 for front left foot sole area. The results of this study indicate that there is a different pattern in the correlation between the body weight and age to the right and left front feet sole areas.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134471727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They qualify as models for various translational research studies (including dental studies) because of their anatomical and physiological similarities to humans. There is however a dearth of information as regards the deciduous dental eruption profile (sequence and timing of eruption) of the Nigerian local pigs (NLP). This study was designed to determine the deciduous eruption profile in the NLP to assist in the management of the breed and in a bid to making the NLP more obvious as suitable animal models in dental research. A total of 51 healthy piglets (from postnatal day 1) were used for this. Their oral cavities were examined every other day for 29 weeks for signs of dental eruption. Looking at Mandibular (Md) and Maxillary (Mx) eruptions for Incisors (I), Canines (C), Premolars (P) and Molars (M). The modular sequence in the NIP was Md/ Mx I3 (at birth), C (at birth) →Md I1→Md P3→MxP3 →MxI1 → Md I2 →MdP4 →MxP4 →MxP2→ Md I2 →MxI2. It was also observed that variations in eruption timing exist amongst individuals and sexes while variation in eruption sequence exists between NLP and various breeds of pigs based on the literature. The results of this study will be particularly important to farmers, and researchers into NLP especially those using pigs in Nigeria as a model for translation research.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"540 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123869686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two adult West African giraffe carcasses at different times after postmortem examination were prepared to extract the bones via cold water maceration for use in the study. The Scapula presented a spine on its lateral surface, lacking a spinal tubercle and ended abruptly without the acromion process before reaching the glenoid angle. The proximal extremity of the humerus presented two intertuberal grooves separated by an intermediate tubercle. Its shaft was entirely smooth on all sides, lacking the deltoid tuberosity and teres major tubercle, while presenting a very shallow almost non-existent musculospiral groove at its lateral distal third. The Ulna bone was reduced to a thin plate as it runs the entire length of the radius before ending distally as the lateral styloid process. The 6 carpals were arranged in two rows of 4 proximal and 2 distal. The metacarpal (fused 3rd and 4th) presented two condyles that anchored two digits with three phalanges and three sesamoids for each. The total number of bones making up the fore-limb was accounted to be 46. In con- clusion, this study provides a baseline data for further biological, archeological and comparative anatomical stud- ies.","PeriodicalId":437076,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Veterinary Anatomy","volume":"157 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133720218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
