India accounts for 7.2% of global cancer incidence, but in terms of mortality, the country accounts for 8.3% of global mortality. India faces a high burden of cancer with the late-stage presentation being a common feature. Early detection of cancer is an important strategy for improved survival and simple cost-effective treatment. Low levels of cancer awareness are a significant factor for delay in seeking treatment by women.Objective: The present study was conducted among Peripheral Health Workers (PHWs) in the Lucknow district to assess their perception of risk factors of breast cancer, knowledge of symptoms, early detection methods, and their availability in the district. Methods: The study was conducted from September 2017 to August 2018, among 450 female PHWs working in rural and urban areas of Lucknow. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect information about the awareness of PHWs regarding breast cancer. The awareness score was calculated based on their responses. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 24.0 (IBM Corporation).Results: The mean score for overall knowledge of breast cancer was statistically significantly high in BHWs in comparison to ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activist). The mean knowledge score of signs and symptoms was significantly high among BHWs (Basic Health Workers). PHWs that had undergone training for breast cancer had about 5 times higher chances of having an above-median score. Conclusion: Current low awareness levels, scarcity of resources, and screening programs call for training and refresher pieces of training for peripheral level health workers to empower them to provide preventive health education and screening at the community level. Breastfeeding counseling sessions during home visits and VHNDs could be utilized as an opportunity to create awareness about breast cancer, especially its protective effect on breast cancer.","PeriodicalId":436394,"journal":{"name":"Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Care","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121774586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The global incidence of DLBCL has been doubled in the past decades, highlighting the need for more effective treatment regimens. The curability of DLBCL is heavily influenced by a number of factors, such as the age, the international prognostic index (IPI) score, the molecular cell of origin (COO) subtype, and presence/ absence of specific chromosomal rearrangements or protein expression. Recent gene profiling studies have classified DLBCL into two main categories, germinal center B-cell type (GCB) and activated B-cell type (ABC). Validation of these subtypes has become more applicable after the immunohistochemical algorithm suggested by Hans, which included three commercially available markers, CD10, BCL6, and MUM-1/IRF4. In addition to this classification, DLBCL prognostic models based on different sets of genes or immunohistochemical markers have been proposed. More recently, DLBCLs with translocations of MYC, along with a B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2) and/or B-cell lymphoma 6 (BCL6) rearrangement, are now called double-hit lymphoma (DHL) or triple-hit lymphoma (THL), respectively. Furthermore, the co-expre sion of MYC and BCL2 proteins without underlying rearrangements is considered a new adverse prognostic indicator termed double-expressor lymphoma (DEL). The present study is aiming to combine morphological, immunophenotypical, and genetic features of DLBCLs to reach a more reproducible subtyping. Aim: To identify the relation between clinicopathological features as patient age, sex, site of tumor, clinical presentation and tumor stage and the germinal center differentiation in DLBCL (germinal center B-cell (GCB) or activated B-cell (ABC)) and the double/triple genetic hits status.Material and Methods: The material of this study comprised 52 formalin-fixed paraffin- embedded blocks representative of diffuse large B cell lymphoma cases retrieved from the archival material available at the Pathology Department, Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University. Subclassification of cases into (germinal center / and post-germinal center types) using a panel of immunohistochemical markers including CD10, BCL6 and MUM1 was done and scoring of double/triple hit expression using a panel of immunohistochemical markers including c-MYC, BCL6 and BCL2 was also done and correlation with their subtypes and clinical data was performed.Results: there was significant association between germinal center differentiation and tumor stage (MCp= 0.018).Conclusion: Germinal center differentiation status is a valid method to evaluate the prognosis of DLBCL.","PeriodicalId":436394,"journal":{"name":"Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Care","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135962102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Children with cancer are a vulnerable group given their immunosuppressed state. There is paucity of data regarding the organisation of pediatric cancer care and outcomes of children with cancer who developed COVID-19 infection. We describe the organisation of care in a Pediatric Oncology unit in a tertiary care hospital in South India and describe the clinical profile and outcomes of children with cancer who were diagnosed with COVID-19 infection. Methods: This was a retrospective chart review of all children admitted to the pediatric oncology unit and diagnosed with COVID-19 infection between March 2020 and October 2020. Descriptive statistics were calculated. Results: A total of 144 children were on active chemotherapy during the study period. Of these, Nine (6.2 %) were diagnosed with COVID-19. Fever and cough were the predominant symptoms. Majority (88%) had mild symptoms. COVID-19 was positive at cancer diagnosis in 22%. PICU care was required for 33%, but for non-covid related concerns. Recovery from Covid-19 was seen in 88%. Chemotherapy administered during or after Covid-19 infection was well tolerated. Co-existent sepsis or CMV infection resulted in severe symptoms leading to mortality and this was not related to severe covid related symptomatology. Conclusions: In our study, majority of children with cancer who developed covid-19 had mild symptoms and recovered uneventfully. Chemotherapy should not be delayed in children with active cancer. The overall outcomes of pediatric oncology care during the pandemic are reassuring.","PeriodicalId":436394,"journal":{"name":"Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Care","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126250531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scheme takes into account not only the poor but rural families also, and that is why it is economically beneficial to the poor households in rural and urban areas. Either due to lack of funds or due to paucity of health care facilities at adjacent centres, cancer care in rural areas has always been suboptimal. Poor people are almost always on the verge of facing economic toxicities during cancer diagnosis, treatment or rehabilitation. Despite various available regional and national programs for healthcare in India, lack of insurance scheme was an inseparable problem. Ayushman Bharat scheme provides financial protection for access curative care at secondary and tertiary levels through engagement with both public and private sector. Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) are the two major components. Ayushman Bharat provides India with a great opportunity to improve the quality of health-care delivery by linking reimbursements directly to adherence to evidence-based management guidelines. Newer modalities of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other biological therapies have been included under this scheme. Removes the burden of out of pocket expenditures. In Spite of multiple benefits PMJAY is not out of fallacies. Paucity of health care services, difficulties with implementation, failure in compensating associated indirect costs are the major drawbacks. Opportunities like delivering affordable and equitable cancer care in India, digitalization, removing heterogeneity across rural and urban India are the future perspectives. To conclude, if PMJAY can overcome these shortcomings, and also incorporate a hospital cash component, it could genuinely claim to be the world’s largest and most successful national health protection scheme. \u0000","PeriodicalId":436394,"journal":{"name":"Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Care","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132637083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Brachytherapy is an important part in the treatment of cervical cancer. Delivering HDR Intracavitary Brachytherapy in the Covid-19 era is challenging. Objective: To compare the dosimetry and treatment outcomes between two fractionation schedules of 9Gy in 2 fractions v/s 7Gy in 3 fractions of high dose rate Brachytherapy in patients with locally advanced carcinoma cervix. Methods: A randomized observational study was carried out on 80 histopathologically proven squamous cell carcinoma patients of cervix. All patients were treated with EBRT 50Gy in 25 fractions over a period of 5 weeks (2Gy/#) with concurrent weekly cisplatin 30mg/m2. After assessing fitness for brachytherapy, patients in the study arm received HDR intracavitary brachytherapy in 9Gy for 2 fractions v/s 7Gy for 3 fractions in the control arm. Results: The median time of follow-up was 14 months for the study (range 7 – 20 months). Local control rate was 89.75% for study arm and 92.30% for control arm. One year disease free survival in the study arm was 76.92% as compared to 74.35% in the control arm. Median disease-free survival was better in the study arm (14 months v/s 12 months) with a trend of significant benefit. Rectal and bladder toxicities were comparable in both the arms. Median dose to ICRU bladder and rectal point, and EQD2 dose in both arms were not found to be statistically significant. Conclusion: Both the regimes were found to be safe. Disease response and toxicities were also similar in both the arms. There was a better patient compliance with 9Gy for 2 fractions schedule in view of lesser number of fractions resulting in less hospital visit in the Covid-19 pandemic.","PeriodicalId":436394,"journal":{"name":"Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Care","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114327543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several studies have shown a reduction in breast cancer mortality reaching 40% in women screened by mammography. Thus, the prognosis after treatment is better because of early detection. In the DRC, in developing countries, the mortality rate is high because the diagnosis is late and therefore responsible for a bad prognosis. However, no studies on early detection by mammography have been performed to our knowledge. Our goal was to determine the mammography contribution in suspicious lesions detection of breast cancer in Kinshasa. Method: A retrospective and descriptive study of 1738 mammograms at the Gombe Imaging Center from January 2012 to December 2015. The reports were prepared by radiologists. We re-read approximately 230 images under supervision to complete the missing data related to interpretation. Age, clinical information, breast density (BIRADS type), elemental or associated lesions, and ACR radiological diagnosis were the key parameters collected on an epidemiological data questionnaire and analyzed on the SPSS 20 software.Results: 347 screening mammograms or 20% were performed with an average age of 48.6 years ; 25 of these (7.2%) had mammographic lesions suspected of malignancy, among which 23 were considered in situ. In addition, our study showed that high breast density is a radiologically visible risk factor. Conclusion: This study has shown that mammography is a tool to integrate into cancer screening in our country. Because it allowed to detect suspicious lesions in asymptomatic women.","PeriodicalId":436394,"journal":{"name":"Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Care","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124653512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
