In this context, the determination of the traversability level of a terrain is a fundamental task for safe and efficient navigation of Autonomous Ground Vehicles (AGVs) in unstructured unknown outdoor environments. Information like roughness of the ground is important when velocity control and other dynamic issues are concerned. However, most of the techniques in the literature use camera or lidar sensors to evaluate the ground around the robot, leading to complex and high cost systems. More simpler methods use only inertial sensors to estimate the roughness properties of the terrain, however they can be very sensitive to the robot's speed. In this paper, we propose a novel classifier capable of cluster different terrains based only on acceleration data provided by an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). We demonstrate with real-world experiments that, for different forward velocities, the mean accuracy of the classification exceeds 80 %. Our method also incorporates a controller to regulate the speed according to the terrain identified by the robot in order to avoid abrupt movements over terrain changes.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125574785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At first the mathematical requirements to propose a feasible strategy for a unicyclelike robot are presented, as well as the necessary condition to guarantee the stability in the sense of Lyapunov. In the sequence, the controllers are tuned in simulation and then validated in real experiments. The performance indexes IAE, ITAE and IASC are used to compare four strategies, detailed in the text.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"284 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124262317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in some applications, such as robot soccer, these robots need to move quickly and aggressively, thus requiring the use of techniques from control systems theory, where an accurate mathematical model is paramount. On the other hand, given budget limitations, the components used for academic robotics competitions are often acquired from hobby-grade manufacturers, which usually provide incomplete specifications. In this paper, we introduce a procedure to experimentally measure the parameters involved in the dynamical model of a differential drive robot. The procedure is intentionally based on a low-cost setup, which uses equipments found in academic laboratories. Moreover, we show experiments results that validate the mathematical model obtained through the experimental procedure.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122045574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, Robotic Swarms is generally related to very large groups of robots. The congestion problem within the mobile robotics field is a well-known field of research. The problem occurs when a large number of autonomous robots tries to reach a common target in the environment at the same time. This paper addresses the congestion problem considering a robotic swarm formed by distinct groups of agents, and we aim to minimize the period of time agents of the same group take to reach the target. We propose two different approaches to optimize the navigation process of the entire group, however, prioritizing members of the same group. The first strategy gives to each group a priority based on the average distance between its members and the target. This team priority will define which robots will move into the target first. The second one states which robots will move based on a randomized group priority. The proposed methodology was evaluated through several experiments in a simulated environment, providing statistical insight on the performance.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"471 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116790142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we develop a fast solution to the task of mosaic construction from aerial images, that allows the embedded generation of a faithful representation of the surveyed area. Most current solutions are off-line (i.e. all data is first collected and then processed in a single batch), and therefore do not allow decision making during data collection. We show that, by applying a sparse variation of the Bundle Adjustment algorithm to minimize reprojection error and using georeferenced images to determine overlapping areas, thus decreasing the computational time required for feature extraction and matching, we can achieve near real-time results on embedded hardware. The proposed methodology was tested using a DJI Phantom 3 drone with a Qualcomm SnapDragon 805 processor, and showed a high accuracy in comparison with standard off-line solutions, at a fraction of the computational time.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130105529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, UCNNs include aspects of long and short-term memory, which are characterized by an equation of neural activity as fast part and an equation of neural synaptic modification as a slow part. For close-loop systems of mobile robots with different time-scales UCNNs can be used to represent the violation of kinematic constraints (like neural activity) and generalized coordinates (like synaptic modifications). Furthermore, UCNNs can act as powerful preprocessors of other neural networks with supervised learning because the unsupervised learning part usually has low computational effort. In this way, the overall computational effort will be considerably reduced. The present work uses the mutual interference between neuron and unsupervised learning of an UCNN in order to analyse the local and global asymptotic stability of mobile robots that not exactly satisfying kinematic constraints. To validate the proposed analysis the equilibrium point of UCNN model will be mathematically analysed by using quadratic-type Lyapunov functions and compared with a model based on a fully supervised learning rule. The results shows that the model based on UCNN converges toward a small ball of the origin with a better performance than the model based on a fully supervised learning rule.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122457572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main contribution of this paper is the algorithm implemented to identify and follow a known object, the miniature of a cow. We are constructing an application based on Image Processing that can detect in images this previously known object. In robotics, 3D objects can serve as robust landmarks for pose estimation and localization, so robust 3D object recognition methods are very important tools in this field. Co-occurrence matrices were used for texture classification on 2D images and 3D medical images. This work uses co-occurrence matrices for object classification, considering their 3D shape, and the method was tested on the University of Washington RGB-D dataset. This work uses only the depth information, since our main goal is to provide a 3D object recognition method, other attributes (like colors and 2D textures) can be easily integrated to this approach to further improvements in the proposed method. The obtained results are comparable to the other works on the same dataset and the source code is available online.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"1155 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128008561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the outer loop there is a force controller that acts as a perturbation for the position reference, whose purpose is to regulate the force applied by the end-effector during the interaction; the inner loop, which is used to control the end-effector pose (i.e., position and orientation), uses both the signals generated by the outer loop and the desired end-effector pose. The controller design relies on the interaction of the end-effector with the environment by using only the robot kinematics. Both robot modeling and controller design are done by using dual quaternion algebra. Simulations on the V-REP platform are performed to verify the proposed scheme. The results show that the force is maintained constant while the trajectory tracking is achieved with a variation produced by the regulation of the desired interaction force in the outer loop.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133646631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dynamics of this quadcopter were described with a mathematical model, and the prototype's parameters were identified through a series of proposed methods and test-beds. A sensor array that is theoretically capable of estimating the robot's state using only on-board, off-the-shelf sensors, is presented. A procedure for calibrating a 3-axis magnetometer was implemented. Three methods for minimizing the effects of mechanical vibrations on the sensors were compared. At last, the effectiveness of the platform was examined by implementing a state estimator and a simple PID angular controller, and by testing the flight stability of the quadcopter on two test-beds built for this purpose.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132411284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
