However, some methods fail in performances or solving some problems, and hybrid approaches can outperform the results when compared to traditional ones. In this paper we present a hybrid approach, named qualitative case-based reasoning and learning (QCBRL), that integrates three well-known AI methods: Qualitative Spatial Reasoning, Case-Based Reasoning and Reinforcement Learning. QCBRL system was designed to allow an agent to learn, retrieve and reuse qualitative cases in the robot soccer domain. We applied our method in the Half-Field Offense and we have obtained promising results.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"209 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123021976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The motion analysis is performed directly in the traditional 2D costmap through three different map frames. Costmap is a traditional mapping technique that uses an occupation grid is used, where each cell has a degree of uncertainty about whether it is occupied or not. The future pose of mobile object is estimated through its motion' behavior, analyzing its previous poses. A representation map called RGB-costmap is created by using the three layers of a traditional RGB image, where each layer has a different meaning. The red layer has the estimation of future position of the object and the current position, in the green layer are added the static objects of the map and in the blue layer there is the past positions of the dynamic object.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117265381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The elaboration of a real reference environment involves high cost facilities for most of the research labs. As an alternative approach, this paper presents a cognitive system simulator named “Robot House Simulator” (RHS). The RHS provides an environment where a robot and a human character can interact socially with increasing levels of cognitive processing. An unprecedented feature of this simulator is to offer information about all the senses of the robot, actually only the sense of sight has been considered in the existing simulators. In its first version, this simulator has as a scenario one residence containing a living room and a kitchen. The results obtained show its functionalities considering different robot's senses.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121612824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The computational limitations imposed by a embedded computer inside the robot and special conditions, such as the use of colored objects, led teams to use techniques based on color segmentation for vision and conditional statements for decision. However, the current league trend is to insert the robots into more and more realistic environments. This will require the robot to, given an image provided by its camera, to abstract all the information it needs to make a decision regardless of the environment. Most robotic vision systems at RoboCup relies on traditional computer vision techniques: thresholding; windowing; segmentation; and classification that requires hours of labeling to training and testing. This paper proposes a system that does not require to locate objects coordinates in the image - a deep neural network will identify most important features resulting as an output that is a decision. Results show that Deep Neural Network (DNNs) enabled the system to be more simple, robust (with less parameters to be set by hand) and achieved a performance that is compatible with the dynamics of the humanoid robot soccer. This system was tested in a real robot and simulator.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"2 6‐7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113955710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The complete kinematic and dynamic model permits to establish the workspace size and the elasto-dynamic performance, respectively. Consequently, the optimal design consists in a multi-objective optimization that is solved by using the multi-objective genetic algorithm. The optimization results permit to find the set of optimal solutions denominated as the Pareto front. These results are analyzed to determine the most suitable solution depending on the desired application.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115874869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile robotics is one of them that analyzes and seeks more efficient solutions for search and rescue operations. Multirobot systems are considered to make the procedures more efficient and safe, both for the victim and for the crew. Petri nets are widely diffused for designing discrete events systems, such as networks and protocols, software modeling, workflow and business processes, supply chains and flexible manufacturing systems. Petri nets inside RFID distributed database, or PNRD, is a formal data structure, which relates Petri net with radio frequency identification components. It was initially designed for logistical and manufacturing processes, facilitating automatic monitoring and traceability of spurious events to objects identified by a tag and passing through pre-defined locations where the antennas and readers are installed. On the scope of search and rescue operations on trails and crossings, it is proposed to use a modified PNRD to assist in the traceability of users and, with that, direct the robots' local search in case of people disappearance. The environment is then analyzed, and it is comprised of heterogeneous robotic agents from the viewpoint of modeling agent behavior, embedding models in microcontrollers and monitoring the system's evolution. The initial experimental results of the proposed methodology are presented and analyzed.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131691368","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A ROS node was used to redirect the flow of data that can go to either the 2D Simultaneous Localization And Mapping (SLAM) ROS node or to the 3D Octomap ROS node depending on the operation performed at that moment, with neither of the nodes going out of sync or crashing. The autonomous algorithm is implemented with the State Machines (SMACH) library and it uses ROS interfaces such as services and actions to create a 3D model of the robot's surroundings without prior information or human intervention.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130770992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In educational environments is expected that social robots enhance learning, such as virtual agents that have been used. However, the real effect of applying a physical robot has not been well exploited. This paper presents an attention span comparison between a humanoid robot and a tablet during an English lecture. Analysis of recorded videos of the interactive sessions was performed to gather objective measurements about the experiment, and a questionnaire was applied to evaluate subjective perceptions of the children. Results have shown that the tablet performed better regarding attention, comprehension and learning perception, while the robot drew more interest.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"189 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132824906","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This will serve as a knowledge base for the implementation of a system to be implemented in a fleet of unmanned aerial vehicle. The main purpose of the system is to detect ships that are in the risk zone of rocket trajectory launched from Barreira do Inferno Launch Center — CLBI. In previous work the authors proposed an algorithm to perform boat detection, however the results showed a high incidence of false positives. In order to improve those results, we propose the use of the Histogram of Oriented Gradients descriptor in candidate images followed by machine learning teachniques such as Suport Vector Machine and K Nearest Neighbours to classify them. To validate the system some experimental results are shown using satellite images, since the aerial vehicle is under constuctions and there is no image database yet.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132449726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The trajectory control is a fundamental block that a flight control system must properly address. However, a recent approach based on fractional calculus has shed a new light into this area, allowing the well tested PID controller to be improved even further. One advantage is that optimization of fractional PID controller can start from parameters obtained by any method developed to classical PID. Thereafter it has two additional parameters that adjust the integral and derivatives orders allowing us to fine tune the controller. In this work we developed a fractional PID to control the lateral channel of a small-fixed wing UAV based on a time-domain optimization criteria. The controller was validated using FlighGear flight simulator, using the SenecaII aircraft. The results show that the identification of the system model plays a crucial role in the performance, and that the approximation from fractional order to integer order can degrade the performance of the controller.","PeriodicalId":435860,"journal":{"name":"2017 Latin American Robotics Symposium (LARS) and 2017 Brazilian Symposium on Robotics (SBR)","volume":"263 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123471268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
