Furthermore, we wanted to determine whether, in the context of this psychological factor, cultural capital maintains a direct effect on students’ achievement. The stratified quota sample consisted of 575 eighth grade students from 30 primary schools on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. Mediation effect of self-efficacy was analysed in simple mediation model where cultural capital was predictor variable and achievement criteria. It was found that cultural capital in context of self-efficacy directly contributes to students’ achievement (β=.23). Its indirect effect through students’ sense of self-efficacy was also recognized (β=.12). The paper also presents the implications of our findings for educational policies and school practices. We discussed the need for revision of curriculum and the importance of formative assessment with special attention to providing a feedback that has positive effect on students’ self-efficacy. Drawing upon a range of empirical sources, I argue that the actors engaging in debates about Brnabic?s both private and public life are entangled in a loop of abjection which, while comprising gender, sexuality, ?race?, and the body, reflects strong patriarchal undercurrents as structural features of Serbian politics.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68777852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Party relations produce characteristics which place a particular party system within the typology of party systems. A number of factors can be considered in explaining the nature of party competition, most often placed within the categories of institutional and sociostructural factors. This paper analyses the impact of full and partial social cleavages on party systems. Given that the theory of social cleavages has proved insufficient in explaining party differences and the dynamics of party systems, especially in new democracies, we will improve the analysis by including the concept of partial social cleavages. This research shows the unequivocal influence of dominant social cleavages on the situation and changes in party systems. Although in some cases no changes in the type of party system have occurred, it can be concluded that exactly in those cases there exist permanent and ingrained social cleavages, but also partial cleavages which affect the relations in the party system at the given time. Identity issues stand out as the dominant topic in political competition, especially in the countries where ethnic relations have not been resolved.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68777829","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measure of placing under health supervision and the obligation of self-isolation, were the key means of mobility management in the situation of the health crisis in Serbia. How were the given measures implemented? How did they affect the citizens who returned to the country? What resources did they have at their disposal and in what way did they meet their basic needs during self-isolation? How was their experience of self-isolation shaped by public media perceptions of diaspora by representatives of the authorities and by their own social environment during the state of emergency? The aim of this paper is to answer these questions relying on the results of the online survey of 305 returnees, conducted during April and May 2020 by the researchers from the Institute for Sociological Research of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68778602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The component of behavioral symbolism is found to prevail, referring to the place?s atmosphere, mood, spirit, or energy. Next comes material symbolism, particularly in relation to Belgrade?s location at the confluence of two rivers, and the Kalemegdan complex overlooking it. All other types of symbolism are much less prominent. Belgrade is described as having a comparatively low global visibility and lacking a readily recognizable landmark. What emerges as a pervasive motif in the different symbolic codes is the attribute of contradiction, and the related qualities of hybridity, liminality, and incompleteness.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68778725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis of transcripts shows that the analytic quality of data varied depending on the interviewee?s position in the local institutional structure, so that in interviews with representatives of political and social institutions role playing (the performative) prevailed over providing information on social reality and attitudes (the informative). This finding is situated in the context of current debates within qualitative methodology which, while illuminating the complex intertwining of different dimensions of the interview (as source of data and interaction situation), fail to recognize fully the problem of performativity and provide solutions. In the final section some undesired epistemological and political implications are discussed of an uncritical application of the semi-structured interview if conceived in an overly antipositivistic fashion and disregarding the institutional and broader social framework within which the research takes place.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68777464","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Translocal spaces are taken as concrete places (workplace, venue of business meeting, places for entertainment and recreation, public spaces, etc.) where interactions between middling migrants and the local population occur and where global and local knowledge, experience and practice are exchanged. The analysis is based on the results of qualitative research conducted in Belgrade (from November 2018 to March 2019). The sample is composed of 42 respondents: 21 middling migrants (well-educated transmigrants employed in international companies, developmental agencies, embassies and universities) and 21 ?cosmopolitan? locals (Serbian employees in international companies and agencies who have been educated abroad and/or have a rich experience of working in a multinational environment). The paper focuses on two aspects: (1) opportunities and obstacles for globallocal knowledge exchange; and (2) spaces in Belgrade where this exchange most frequently occurs and that, as a consequence, become translocal.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68778735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, they provide an overview of the emergence and constitution of the sociology of sport in Europe and the United States, with a focus on the development of that discipline in Serbia. Emphasizing that contemporary sport is largely shaped by market relations in mass society, the authors point to the importance of sociological research on the mutual influence of sport on society and society on sport, with a critical reaffirmation of the issues of contextual cognitive possibilities and social conditionality of sport. In particular, they emphasize the need for reaffirmation of the sociology of physical culture, which in its cognitive oeuvre is closer to the sociology of culture and general sociology, as opposed to the contemporary pragmatically conditioned tendencies to ?fragment? the sociology of sport towards new related sub-disciplines. Therefore, the authors argue that the existence of a number of sub-disciplines that have arisen from the sociology of sport is one of the evident indicators that in the domain of sociological knowledge, it is difficult to overcome the influences of pragmatic-new-positivist approaches, which narrow not only the critical-cognitive aspects, but also the practical needs of society for a true understanding and the humane development of the sport and activities related to it.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68778066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The past is perceived through the prism of ware and profits. The forgotten crimes of com, the role of oblivion in globalisation, the nature of contemporary memory constitutionalism and memory laws in the EU are considered. Capitalism is justified through glorious democratic past. The forgetting of capitalism?s own violence is embedded in the capitalist memory culture. The anti-totalitarian discourse is the highest official ?constitution of memory? in EU from which the official memories of the EU members are derived. The Holocaust is a conceptual lever of capitalist forgetting. It is a selective summary concept and metaphor for the integrated memory of the crimes of fascism and communism. There is no Holocaust in the official memory of the crimes of capitalism. The institutionalized memory of Left crimes is dominant. In this paper the attention is drawn to the marginalized and weakened memory of the Left. Also, some arguments on the reasons why rotting working class as a torn group is incapable for organized and active memory are being suggested.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68778209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Višić","doi":"10.2298/soc2003330v","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2298/soc2003330v","url":null,"abstract":"I start with the question of whether populism can be a strategy for renewing the Left. I argue that populism has such potential if: a) it is used for bringing together ?scattered consciousnesses?, b) if it advocates and goes in the direction of radical reform, c) if it is accompanied by minutely pre-defined reform policies, and most importantly d) if the Left manages to bridge populism?s inherent gap between the promised and the fulfilled. Among the various definitions of populism discussed at the outset of the text, I choose to use one that defines populism as a discursive-rhetorical style and technique of doing politics. I offer six antitheses that could be considered to have contributed to the fall of the Left. The focus then shifts to the success and failure of the Third Way, which I interpret as a collection of ideologemes, phrases, and floating signifiers used for new populist rhetoric. I then seek to demonstrate what Le Bon?s Psychology of the Crowd - in which important topics about populism are discussed - has to say about the psychology of populism and the mechanisms of acceptance of populist rhetoric, and whether it contains any useful lessons for the Left. In the last part I propose six theses and discuss populism as a strategy for renewing the Left.","PeriodicalId":43515,"journal":{"name":"Sociologija","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68778273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
