The author first analyzes the content of the convention and the novelties it brings, highlighting the points that have become the subject of conflict and dispute. Then the ratification process is analyzed, which showed that there is serious resistance to its adoption and implementation in Eastern Europe. The paper provides an overview of the situation in individual countries and explains why the document has not been ratified there. The situation is also presented in the countries that have ratified the Convention, but its implementation is still marked by sharp conflicts.

The relationship between social inequality, social vulnerability and crime creates complex patterns - direct and indirect mechanisms of interaction that can be observed from different perspectives. Following the idea that deeper social, economic and ideological regroupings and regulations are hidden behind mass imprisonment, the paper investigates the connection between the social position of convicts, penal policy and crime. The neoliberal penalty reform accompanied by the penal policy of mass imprisonment is analyzed in the paper along with the deepening of socio-economic inequality and the reduction of social protection. Criminological approaches also indicate a strong correlation between these factors, emphasizing that they should be investigated through direct and indirect influences that take place in a specific space and time. The most significant disadvantages of unfavorable social environments related to criminal choices and practices are low level of educational activities and achievements, insufficiently structured free time, in one word, lack of social and economic resources that would distance individual self-choices from criminal life options.

Even when eldercare is discussed in the context of growing migration flows, its daily performance and somatic components have rarely been taken seriously enough and productively linked to the global movements. Therefore, the caregivers? experiences are analysed here by relying on the scholarship on ?body work? (activities having human body as working material), which are then contextualised within the larger socio-economic environment of neoliberalism. Since live-ins not only point to, but also ?solve? systematic contradictions in organizing eldercare (e.g., the gap between the desired image of caring environment and practical conditions) - by either covering up the empty spot left by potential providers of care or extending the quality of that care - I argue that attentiveness to the details of the bodies being worked upon is one point of departure from which micro and macro can be analysed in a close correlation to each other, providing a novel bodily insight into world economic restructuring.

The paper explains this phenomenon by relying on theory and data from legal theory, sociology, and political science. The behaviour of officials in contemporary Serbia can be explained by analysing complex interactions between state law and informal norms that arise from informal institutions of clientelism and corruption. These norms form a parallel normative order (1) composed of mutual expectations regarding the behaviour of others and consequences for not complying with these expectations. (2) It is based on social and political powers that strengthen informal institutions and the normative order. (3) Norms of this order regulate the behaviour of actors, and (4) they are mutually harmonised, with the norm of loyalty central to the normative order. (5) The parallel normative system suspends state law for political and economic actors who respect informal rules while using mechanisms, rules, and resources of state law to sanction violations of informal norms that are considered crucial for maintaining the informal order. The relation between formal state law and the informal normative order is one of conflict, competition, and parasitisation. To elaborate on these findings, we explain the concepts of informal rules, institutions, and orders, along with an exposition and analysis of typologies of their relations. We then present and analyse empirical research data about corruption and clientelism in Serbia. Finally, based on the theoretical framework and the available data, we conclude that there is ample evidence that a parallel normative order is established and sustained in Serbia.

The mass media, through which the population of Serbia is mostly informed about transgender people and transgender issues in general, have a significant role in spreading and encouraging transphobia. Texts in print and online media are usually the only source of information about transgender people that reaches the citizens of Serbia. Most of these texts contain offensive, outdated and inadequate terminology. The texts report in a sensationalist manner and do not address transphobia as a serious social problem that transgender people face on a daily basis. In this article, I will deal with the representation of transgender people in Serbian print and online media, as well as the impact of media reporting on the spread of transphobia in Serbia. All texts dealing with the transgender issues and transgender people were collected by searching the digital archive of media texts for 2021 with the help of key words and tags. The collected material is analyzed using the media content analysis method and the critical discourse analysis method. The aim of this research is to determine how print and online media represent transgender people in Serbia and to what extent they influence the creation of prejudices, stereotypes and negative attitudes about transgender people.

Although the nexus between income and most subjective\u0000 well-being indicators is frequently investigated in prior studies, the\u0000 research investigating the relationship between income and income\u0000 satisfaction over time is non-existing. We find that during the observed\u0000 period real disposable household income significantly increased, while the\u0000 satisfaction with household income remained constant. Furthermore, the\u0000 analysis within hierarchical linear modeling shows that while\u0000 between-country variations in income affect income satisfaction, this is not\u0000 the case for income variations over time. Our findings support the notion of\u0000 the Easterlin paradox, which indicates that in the long-run increases in\u0000 income do not lead to higher levels of well-being. Evolutionary theory suggests that age norms are shaped by gender-specific evolutionary challenges. We tested two hypotheses based on the evolutionary rationale. Hypothesis 1 suggests that both men and women believe that women should reach maturity and experience reproduction-related life events earlier than men. Hypothesis 2 claims that men and women demonstrate this tendency asymmetrically. When women estimate the appropriate/ideal age for men, they suggest a higher appropriate age for men than men themselves. When men estimate the appropriate/ideal age for women, they suggest a younger age for women compared to women themselves. In the second part of the paper, we explored the background of these claims by testing the alternative explanations based on ‘social forces’ (culture, socio-economic status, education, age, values). The hypotheses were tested using the 9th wave of the ESS data, totaling around 47 thousand respondents and the sample of Balkan countries was analyzed in more detail. The appropriate age was measured using ‘ideal age’ as the concept which reflects the optimal timing expectations for reproduction-related events: living with a partner, marriage, and parenthood. Respondents were also asked to make judgments about the appropriate age of becoming an adult for men and women. The overall results supported the outlined expectations based on the evolutionary approach. The results did not provide convincing evidence for the alternative, non-evolutionary interpretation of the identified patterns.

A qualitative study was conducted, capitalizing on in-depth, semi-structured of twenty semi-structured interviews conducted with university professors from ethnic minority and majority comminties, working in STEM and social sciences and humanities (SSH) field of studies in two state universiteis in Serbia. The findings indicate that ethnic minority female professors from STEM are less open to female students and colleagues in their domains and do not see the need for more women in STEM. This attitude can be traced back to these women having to overcome a ?double jeopardy? and ?symbolic violence? in a very male-dominated field, as they belong to ethnic minority and hat to deal with the lack of or with the denial of recources within institutions. Equal abilities of men and women in STEM was a topic occurring mostly in the narratives of the majority women who mostly adopted a masculine patterns of behavior and tried to become ?one of the boys?. Both minority and majority women agreed that deeply rooted gender stereotypes prevent women from choosing a career in STEM. The research identified the need for more inclusive education programs on all levels and for female role models to steer more women towards STEM.
