This algorithm is complex since it requires successive computationally-heavy stages such as smoothing, computing gradient, thinning and thresholding. These steps contain many functions based on multiplications, divisions and arc tan. Hence, processing high quality images using programmable processors such as digital signal processors is slow, multiple processing elements are required. For custom architecture, to efficiently use the hardware resources and improve the processing throughput, some hardware features like pipelining must be employed. This paper proposes a hardware/software co-design architecture which speeds up Canny processing time by 19 times compared to the software implementation. Targeted for NiosII system on Altera FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) platform, the co-design provides a balance between hardware acceleration and software reprogram ability.","PeriodicalId":435030,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121726360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Initially, the Balloon Snake is chosen to segment the masses. Comparison on the masses areas segmented by the Balloon Snake is done against the areas traced by radiologist. Experimental result shows that from fifty masses tested, the Balloon Snake successfully segment the masses with accuracy of 95.71%. Then, a segmented mass by the Balloon Snake is characterized as benign or malignant based on the measurement of angular margin. The mass is considered as a malignant if it has at least one acute angular margin. Otherwise it is a benign. The characterization of a mass by the Balloon Snake based on the criterion of angular margin is compared with the actual type of a mass characterized by an expert radiologist. The comparison is made in terms of sensitivity and specificity values. Based on the values, the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve is plotted. It is found that the area under curve is 0.8455. The value implies that the Balloon Snake gives high accuracy in characterizing benign from malignant mass based on the criterion used.","PeriodicalId":435030,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115452911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Among the various types of diagrams that exist under the umbrella of UML is Sequence Diagram. Sequence Diagrams are capable of modeling interactional behaviours as well as dynamic happenings in a system, and as such are generally used in the modeling of complex software systems. However in this paper, Sequence Diagrams are used in the modeling of the IEEE 802.11 Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol. The Sequence Diagram representing this protocol will then be used for formal, mathematical analysis by first transforming the Sequence Diagram through the MDA model transformation tool called SD2PN, and performing analysis such as liveness analysis, boundedness analysis and reach ability analysis of the resulting Petri Net.","PeriodicalId":435030,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124740039","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To provide an intelligent and smart architecture of a computer system, a dedicated design is needed which is both power friendly and less complicated. As computer system consists of sequential circuits mostly, it is very important to design sequential circuits effectively and flawlessly for ensuring least power dissipation and architectural simplicity. Different kinds of counters are considered to be very important segments of sequential circuit system. In this paper, we have proposed a design scheme to develop a Johnson counter with necessary clock gating which is based on toggle operation of J-K flip-flops. This design scheme is more sophisticated and prominent than the conventional shift register based design as this scheme provides fewer interconnections and comparatively lower power dissipation.","PeriodicalId":435030,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125577495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the fluid flow applications have been carved and mirrored to biological micro fluid flow. Microfluidics is an emerging field where extensive applications are being explored namely in biomedical and electronics.In this paper, simulation of liquid flow in Backward Facing Step (BFS) microchannel was investigated to study liquid velocity profile before and after the step. The simulation has been carried out for various Reynolds numbers ranging from 0.1 to 500. The simulations result shows a parabolic profile is observed before and after the step. Besides that, higher magnitude in velocity profile is observed before the step compared to the velocity profile after the step. In addition, slip velocity is also has been observed for Reynolds numbers >; 100. As resource unavailability may be unknown in advance in some periods of the project in reality, an agent-based dynamic solution for RCPSP with task splitting and uncertain resource supply is provided to solve this problem, the essence of which is to dynamically adjusting the key tasks of the project in accordance with the tasks' time lags mainly caused by the uncertain resource supply. Besides, interruption of running tasks is allowed since it conforms to reality. A multi-agent system consisting of several agents and one resource agent is exploited to illustrate its performance. Lastly the experimental results illustrate the efficiency of dynamic solution.","PeriodicalId":435030,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115913608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The sympathetic inrush phenomena will occur to the transformers that connected in parallel. The inrush current will flow to the transformer that is already energized when energizing the second transformer on the power system. It will effect a voltage drop and this voltage drop caused the saturation to the already transformer in the negative direction. These phenomena caused the mal-operation of the relay that the main point of this project is to overcome it. The results obtained after designing 100MVA, 33/ 11kV three phase transformer by using PSCAD/ EMTDC simulation. As results, cross blocking method will operate as a block tripping and this method is useful to eliminate mal-operations that occur during the energization of the transformer due of the failure of harmonic restraint function in transformer differential relays. These analyses solve the problem of sympathetic inrush current phenomena.","PeriodicalId":435030,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114744978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Resource Efficiency of Traffic-Centric Models for Complex LTE Systems 复杂LTE系统流量中心模型的资源效率

{"title":"Resource Efficiency of Traffic-Centric Models for Complex LTE Systems","authors":"P. Pileggi","doi":"10.1109/CIMSIM.2012.11","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CIMSIM.2012.11","url":null,"abstract":"Simulation is the dominating method to model wireless communication systems, especially fourth generation (4G) wireless technologies, such as 3GPP long term evolution (LTE). However, orthodox simulation, i.e., discrete-event simulation (DES), has severe short-comings. It takes days, weeks, and even months, to produce sound performance estimates. As for 4G in general, LTE is connection-oriented. Including connection -- and packet-level activities in one model poses serious resource-requirement problems because the time-resolution of events at each respective level differs to the order of magnitude of at least 10E06. Consequently, Traffic-Centric Modelling (TCM) has been proposed as a feasible alternative to DES. In this paper, we present a TCM model of an LTE uplink scenario as proof-of-concept that TCM is, in fact, capable of modelling complex systems. Moreover, experimental results indicate a significant improvement in temporal and spatial resource-requirements achieved by TCM.","PeriodicalId":435030,"journal":{"name":"2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Modelling and Simulation","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114537580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
