These developments have occurred against the backdrop of globalisation, the internationalisation of higher education, and the knowledge economy. We shall show how, as a conceptual tool, the idea of quality assurance is problematic and that there is no commonly accepted definition of quality assurance. We discuss the relevant literature and argue that in future comparative studies of South African and Nigerian higher education could contribute to current understandings of quality assurance. Between 1848-1854, he served as inspector general of the schools of the Empire. Accordingly, it was decided to deploy him to Europe for 10 months in order to increase and develop his already well-known skills and competencies based on the tasks he had already undertaken. The aim of this study was to examine the observations and investigations made by Ahmed Kemal Effendi in some European cities between August 1850 and April 1851 and to reveal its effects on the Ottoman education system. This research, which uses qualitative research methods and techniques, is designed as a descriptive historical study based on original and primary sources. The historical documents about the visits of Ahmed Kemal Effendi to some European cities were analysed through content analysis and descriptive analysis methods. As reflected in the findings of this research, Kemal Effendi traveled to Europe from August 1850 to April 1851 and made educational observations and inspections in the cities such as Paris, London, Brussels, Cologne, Berlin and Vienna. By transferring the knowledge and experiences he gained abroad to his country, he initiated significant practices towards the modernization of education in the Ottoman Empire. Kemal Effendi's course materials, purchased from Paris, began to be used in newly established secondary schools, called as Rüştiye. The most important part of modernization in education, which gained high speed, especially in the Tanzimat (Reorganization) reform period, was the military educational institutions. After schools such as military high schools and secondary schools were established, the modernization practices in education continued at a fast pace. It began in engineering schools at the end of the XVIII century, a long-time after the opening of military high schools in 1845, as a result of a decision taken on January 9, 1875, military secondary schools were opened to meet the students’ need of military high schools. This study aims to reveal the rules (rewards and punishments) established to regulate the behaviours of military secondary school students through the historical document analysis method.Case studies have been benefited from in this research, which was conducted through qualitative research methods and techniques. As a result of the archive and literature screening, the management and institutional functioning of the military secondary schools were determined by the directives published in specific periods. The resources of the research are library data, especially archival documents, including legal regulations. The question to be asked is whether higher education institutions in Ecuador possess the capacity to deliver graduates with the competences to provide timely economic, ecological and sustainable solutions for the problems society is increasingly confronted with. Additionally, higher education institutions should prepare graduates to find employment in a society characterized by greater uncertainty, extensive use of information technology, speed, risk, complexity and interdisciplinary work. To face this challenge, universities need professors to possess a mix of aptitudes, attitudes and professional development in teaching, research and services. Unfortunately, knowledge is sparse about the impact of the aptitude, attitude and professional development of the academic community on the readiness of their pupils to function effectively in a rapid changing and increasingly globalized environment. Accordingly, this paper assesses, using as case study the public University of Cuenca, the impact of professors’ aptitudes, attitudes and professional development on teaching and students’ learning. The study adopted an explanatory sequential mixed approach as research method for the collection, analysis and interpretation of the broad range of questions asked to professors and students. Understanding the likely implication of the variables, aptitude, attitude and professional development, on the quality of teaching and learning is fundamental for the design and carrying out of educational reforms. Teachers are one of the most important factors in educational process. Having eager and determined teachers will make teaching process be effective as much as possible. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between burnout and demographic features of English teachers. In data collection, Maslach Burnout InventoryEducators Survey was used to identify burnout levels of English teachers. It was revealed that English teachers in Gaziantep experience from high to extreme level of burnout. Also, between age and burnout level of English teachers, there was no significant relation.
