Since the UWB band overlaps the spectrum of existing narrowband and wide band systems, its worldwide acceptance is mainly conditioned by coexistence issues. In this paper, we propose a new route selection algorithm for UWB ad-hoc networks using geolocation capability of UWB systems and considering reduction of interference. We showed that the proposed algorithm can spatially avoid interference to other coexisting networks by Multi-hop using geolocation of coexisting nodes and confirm that the interference from a UWB network to other coexisting networks can be suppressed by shortening the hop interval. The route constructed with the proposal algorithm can improve the rate of time to give serious interference compared with the route constructed with the shortest hop. Additionally, average value of interference and the worst value of interference can be suppressed. But, the number of hops increasing by sending and receiving at each routing leads to the increase of time UWB occupies the bandwidth. For this problem, we show that the route that suppresses interference can be constructed in the proposal algorithm, even if the limiting condition is added.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132949041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically multiple CFOs incur a loss of orthogonality between the transmitted training sequences, either causing a severe error floor in the performance of an estimator or requiring estimation algorithms of higher complexity. In this paper we introduce design criteria for training signals that allow estimators for multiple CFOs to be decoupled nearly free of such multiple access interference. We propose three different approaches to training signal design fulfilling the presented criteria. Consequently, even estimators developed for the single CFO case may be applied. Our simulations show that the proposed approach provides excellent estimator performance and at the same time allows low complexity estimators to be used.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"188 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116483393","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spreading sequences are numerically obtained and their properties are evaluated in terms of even and odd cross-correlation functions. It is shown that the cross-correlation functions of the spreading sequences with relatively prime lengths take small values uniformly and that the bit-error rate of synchronous uplink direct-sequence code-division multiple access is little affected by the cross-correlation.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134456221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A great deal of research has been conducted to develop advanced signal processing algorithms and novel receiver structures useful for mitigation of these effects in mobile land wireless communication systems, such as UMTS. One effect way of dealing with multiuser interference in CDMA systems is to employ Successive-Interference-Cancellation (SIC). However, the difficulty in performing SIC for some scenarios, for example, indoor location systems, lies in accurately estimating the amplitude, which is dependent on the transmitter's location and is not directly known, of the signal to be canceled. In this paper we introduce a novel receiver structure Multi-Correlation Differential Detection (MCDD) to suppress the Inter-Symbol-Interference (ISI), MAI and Near-Far effect effectively and just a simple peak detection algorithm is needed for ranging signal time-of-flight (ToF) for location systems. Especially under severely Near-Far effect the MCDD receiver outperforms in terms of probability of detection over traditional matched filter noticeably.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125521612","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, simulations are conducted to compare the bit-error-rate (BER) performance of logistic-map based chaos spreading codes with other spreading codes. RAKE receiver and time-invariant multipath channels are used for the simulations. The results show that chaos codes outperform m-sequences and Gold codes. We are also particularly interested in the performance comparison of chaos codes and the orthogonal codes (OVSF), which are commonly used in 3G systems. Although the OVSF codes always outperform the chaos codes in AWGN environment, there are cases with time-invariant multipath channels, in which the BER of the chaos codes are better.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124006235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With channel information from the previous symbol period, new pilot locations can be determined so that, on the one hand, channel estimation errors are controlled at a low level and, on the other hand, reliable subcarrier channels are made available for data transmission. The minimum effective SNR across subcarriers is a factor that dominates the symbol-error-rate (SER) at high SNR and, thus, is utilized as the performance measure in this work. First, a lower bound is derived for the achievable SNR gain, which is defined as the ratio between the effective SNR achieved with feedback and that without feedback (i.e., the equal-spaced pilot-placement scheme). The analytic results show that, with a fixed number of subcarriers, the feedback gain will grow as the number of pilot tones increases. Due to the complexity required in finding the optimal solution, a suboptimal but efficient algorithm, called the iterative pilot relocation (IPR) scheme, is proposed, where iterative exchanges between old pilot locations and the location of the worst data subcarrier are done to improve the minimum effective SNR. The efficacy of the proposed IPR scheme is demonstrated through numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130671739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the transceiver, a spatial multiplexing scheme with four transmit and four receive antennas is utilized to increase spectrum efficiency and achieve 1.92-Gbps data rate. Performance of both the MIMO and single-input single-output (SISO) schemes is investigated through simulations under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), 40-ppm carrier frequency offset (CFO), 40-ppm sampling frequency offset (SFO), and the revision Saleh-Valenzuela (S-V) channel models. Simulation results show that at 10−3 bit-error rate (BER), the MIMO design outperforms the SISO system for more than 2 dB under CM1 channel. Under channel effects with more serious fading, such as CM2 and CM3, the performance gain between MIMO and SISO systems can be even more than 5 dB. It is shown that the MIMO MB-OFDM UWB design provides four times of data rate and better error performance, compared with the conventional SISO scheme.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"118 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116363459","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although derived for a mismatched maximum-likelihood receiver that obtains the channel state information through pilot-based linear minimum mean-square error (LMMSE) channel estimation, the presented expression is shown to yield very accurate BER results for both LMMSE and least-squares channel estimation, over a wide range of signal-to-noise ratios.
