Contrary to most prior work, we characterize the finite signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) DMT using a non-asymptotic framework. Our results are based on a new exact closed-form expression which we derive for the distribution of the received SNR, which takes into account the direct transmission link. We also extract the conventional asymptotic DMT as a special case of the finite-SNR result, and demonstrate that the asymptotic DMT can significantly overestimate the level of diversity that is achievable for practical error rates and SNRs. We also present the finite-SNR DMT for decode-and-forward (DF) relaying protocols, and show the interesting result that fixed-gain AF outperforms DF at low SNR.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127827587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) channel estimates from pilot signals, a receiver determines a set of 'on' or active subchannels that maximizes a lower bound on a sum capacity. The capacity bound optimization is constrained to a fixed total power, which is a sum of total training power and a sum of equal transmission power on activated subchannels. We show that as number of subchannels N increases, the optimal training power converges to a deterministic constant while the optimal number of active subchannels increases at the rate of (log N −2 log log N)2. The associated capacity bound tends to infinity at the rate of log N −2 log log N while that with uniform power allocation of all subchannels converges to a constant.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126074302","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The arrival wave is multiplied by estimated sine and cosine waves respectively and the resultant are input to integrators. These simultaneous equations are nonlinear so Newton's method is used for solving them iteratively. The UWB-IR system is modulated by On-Off shift Keying (OOK). As multi-users access scheme, the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) using the Optical Orthogonal Code (OOC) sequence is adopted. The integral interval and the sample energy threshold value are optimized to improve the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. The BER performances of proposed scheme are evaluated and compared with conventional energy detection receiver in the low data rate PAN (Personal Area Network) channel. We employ the carrier hopping prime code as signature sequences in time-spreading wavelength-hopping optical CDMA system. As the carrier hopping prime code is a symmetric code, the autocorrelation sidelobes is zero. We apply the orthogonality of this signature sequences to achieve the ternary transmission mechanism. Our proposed architecture is simple in both transmitter and receiver. Since multiple access interference is the major deterioration of system performance, using coding scheme is an effective way to reduce the error floor. In the case of the channel access scheme OFDM, the obvious and known approach to frequency diversity would consist in commonly spreading the data elements to be transmitted over all OFDM subcarriers. Unfortunately, this approach of full data spreading would render optimum, that is Maximum Likelihood data despreading in the receiver prohibitively expensive so that only less complex suboptimum despreading schemes based on Zero Forcing or on still quite expensive iterative procedures remain. In order to overcome this situation, we propose in the present paper the scheme of partial data spreading. In this scheme the data elements to be transmitted are partitioned into subsets, and the data elements of each of these subsets are commonly spread only over a corresponding subset of the OFDM subcarriers. In this way, optimum data despreading becomes feasible. Our simulation results show that, as compared to un-spread transmission and depending on the characteristics of the radio channel, a significant reduction of the required SNR can be achieved. We consider OFDM transmission with rate 1/2 convolutional coding, QPSK data modulation, and soft input Viterbi decoding.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127481329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
