A simplified performance model is formulated for studying the interaction of the weight-variation and power-control approaches. For sake of illustration, double-weight codes are studied in this paper. Our results show that the QoS of double-wight codes can be fine-tuned by controlling both code weight and bit power.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116300715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) which is combined OFDM and frequency division multiple access (FDMA) provides each user with a fraction of the available number of subcarriers. The diversity that exists between users is called multiuser diversity and can be exploited by the sender to enhance the capacity of wireless network. In a multiuser diversity OFDMA, exploiting channel fluctuation diversity is in essence done by selecting the user with the strong subcarrier channels. Therefore, the multiuser diversity techniques promise dramatically increased system throughput and spectral efficiency. In multipath fading environment, severe fading of the signal amplitude and intersymbol interference (ISI) due to the frequency selectivity of the channel cause an unacceptable degradation of error performance. In an OFDM system, ISI is eliminated by inserting guard interval (GI) longer than the delay spread of the channel. On the other hand, this operation is degraded the throughput performance. In this paper, we propose to improve the throughput performance for multiuser diversity OFDMA without GI. Previously, we have proposed ISI and inter-carrier interference (ICI) compensation method. In addition, the minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalization can suppress the noise enhancement due to ISI and ICI. Therefore, we employ these methods to eliminate ISI and ICI and try to improve the throughput performance.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126606292","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have so far proposed the periodic spectrum transmission realized by the even-numbered time domain samples, which further improves the bit error rate (BER) of SC-FDE in severe frequency selective fading channels. However, in frequency non-selective fading channels, the periodic spectrum transmission provides worse BER than the traditional non-periodic transmission. Therefore, the proposed adaptive transmission chooses the appropriate transmission mode by comparing the error vector magnitudes (EVM) of the periodic and non-periodic transmissions. Moreover, since the EVM is measured by the CAZAC-based pilot signals used for channel estimation, additional redundancy is not needed any more. Numerical results show that the proposed adaptive scheme always provides the best performance irrespective of the frequency selectivity in channels while its frequency selectivity gives some BER degradation in the periodic and non-periodic transmissions.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131027074","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Optimum MuD (OMuD), Parallel Interference Cancelling (PIC), Linear MUDs and the 1-optimum Local Search (1-LS) algorithms are analyzed and compared as performance against complexity trade-off. Performance evaluation is carried out in terms of symbol error rate (SER), and further, the implementations aspects are fully exhibited through a number of operation complexity analysis. Simulation results indicate clearly the advantage of sub-optimum 1-LS detector approach in terms of performance-complexity trade-off.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133362558","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First of all, to evaluate the ECG capability, we conducted clinical tests with 67 subjects comparing 24-hour data obtained at houses between the wireless vital sensor and a Holter monitor. Secondly, to evaluate the wireless transmission capability, we conducted experiments with 8 subjects in patient rooms at a hospital. The clinical test results conclude that, as long as the sensed data are successfully received at a receiver, the wireless vital sensor has a comparable performance with the Holter ECG monitor, on the other hand, the experimental results show that the data transmission capability with a single receiver is not satisfactory for real-time continuous monitoring, but the use of three receivers can significantly improve the data transmission quality by receive diversity effect.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124090968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we report analytical study of the bit error rate (BER) performance of MIMO-SESS systems under Rayleigh fading. The BER expressions are derived in closed-form and the veracity of the analysis was confirmed with numerical calculations that demonstrated excellent agreement with simulation results. The performance analysis demonstrates that the effects of fading can be effectively mitigated by taking advantage of spatial and temporal diversities. For example at 10-4 BER, a 2 × 2 MIMO-SESS system requires a signal-to-noise ratio of only 3 dB under Rayleigh fading and achieves about 7 dB performance improvement over a MIMO PN-coded spread spectrum system.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"206 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115140637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first verify that the jamming performance of SESS with correlation detection is similar to conventional Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) system We then show that the performance improves by approximately 7dB when the correlation detection is combined with the iterative detection. Direct sequence ultra wideband (DS-UWB) radar has been studied in recent years as a kind of radar enabling high — precision ranging. In this paper, we assume that all vehicles are equipped with the DS-UWB radar in the platoon environment. The purpose of this paper is to show the platoon characteristics when automatic speed control is applied with DS-UWB. Additionally, we propose DS-UWB radar using variable length of spreading codes. The proposal is evaluated by computer simulations. Some simulation results show that not only ranging time could be improved by the proposed system but also trade-off between processing time and vehicle following accuracy.","PeriodicalId":433699,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE 11th International Symposium on Spread Spectrum Techniques and Applications","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128894847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
