Its effects seem so drastic that concerns about its proper management are raising questions around the globe. The major areas of developing and underdeveloped countries are used for agriculture and allied activities. Most of the waste generated in a country comprises agricultural wastes, most of which are solid. There is an urgent need to manage this agricultural waste to avoid environmental degradation and mitigate its ill effects on human and animal health. It was found that vermicomposting seems to be by far the most affordable and quickest method of agricultural solid waste management. It also describes the problem of crop residue burning, which is quite prevalent in developing countries like India. It was also seen that the respective central and state governments must frame specific policies and laws for agricultural waste management. As agricultural solid wastes have good re-use and conversion potential, and it was suggested that suitable measures that can be taken to implement sustainable management of agricultural solid wastes.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140468518","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The expenditures and factors determining the use of clean cooking fuels were analysed. The sample consisted of 100 households selected randomly, considering both rural and urban. It was found that 45 per cent of households use clean cooking fuels, and 55 per cent use clean and dirty fuels. The determinants of clean cooking fuels were families' monthly income, fuel expenditure, LPG connection, and kitchen, which were statistically significant. It was the same for urban areas, but only monthly expenditure on cooking fuels was highly significant in rural areas. Thus, the stakeholders should focus more on subsidies and frequently organize awareness programs, especially in rural areas, to encourage the practice of clean fuels.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140465240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sample of 60 mash growers from 16 villages in Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts was analyzed. The study identified major channels and value-added products, finding market Channel-I most preferred by growers. Six value chains involving processors were identified, with wholesalers receiving the highest share of marketable surplus. The most efficient channels were observed to be Channel V and VI, in which processors were involved. Among the agri-value chains (Channels-V and VI), the study also revealed the producer's share in the consumer rupee, with VCPB-II having the highest share at 69.18 per cent, followed by VCPB-I at 67.15 per cent, VCBF at 48.39 per cent, VCW at 29.03 per cent and VCN-II at 23.06 per cent. The study also explores growers' perceptions and willingness to engage in value chains, revealing that 53 per cent were interested in government support. The policy options from the study included transport incentives, capacity building for higher production, and encouragement of processors to enhance black gram cultivation and benefit farmers, contributing to sustainable crop diversification in Punjab.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140466239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Artisans have played an essential role in shaping identity and character. The pottery evidence can be traced back to the Neolithic age with the participation of various traditional knowledge. Pottery artisans hold a significant place as their artistic creations signify the culture, tradition, and history of the country. The pottery industries provide various opportunities like employment generation, increasing exports, etc. The study attempted to investigate the present status of the socio-economic conditions of the pottery artisans in Delhi and Haryana. Another objective of the study was to analyse the range of challenges faced by pottery artisans in the study area. The study aimed to provide actionable recommendations that can contribute to the growth, preservation and empowerment of pottery artisans. Primary data were used in the study. Snowball stratified random sampling was used in the study. Various indexes were constructed to identify the key challenges faced. The study showed that the pottery industry was suffering from competition, followed by an irregular supply of raw materials and quality issues. Government and non-government organisations can solve the problem and help grow and develop this particular industry.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140468203","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The data were collected from four agricultural companies listed on the National Stock Exchange during 2013-2021. The results showed that RCC and CCC had a significant negative relationship with the ROA of agriculture companies. The negative relationship implied that profitability was lower if the cash conversion cycle was longer. The study concluded that a reduction in the receivables collection cycle and cash conversion cycle could lead to an enhancement in the profits of the agriculture company. The findings also highlighted the significant positive impact of ICC and PDC on the ROA of agriculture companies. It implied that longer the duration of the inventory conversion period and payment to suppliers will lead to higher profitability for the companies. Therefore, to maintain a specific level of inventories for proper working capital management and improved profitability, agricultural companies should invest in current assets with the help of a financial institutional support system. Policymakers could develop regulations to encourage the amount of current assets in the working capital of agricultural companies, leading to profitability.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140470474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study confirmed the existence of ? and ? convergence using the convergence hypothesis and suggested reduced income disparity between states and higher growth in poorer states than richer states. Further insights into club convergence came from forming two clubs, with three states approaching the national average while twelve did not converge. The economic reforms of 1991 strengthened Indian agriculture, but only a few states prospered, and the majority did not follow a common development path, which is a cause for concern. The government should make policies to bring these states up to national averages, which will pave the way for the government's goal of doubling farmers' income.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140467938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results showed that TFPG in this industry resulted from technical progress and that the role of change in technical efficiency was insignificant. Therefore, for sustainable output growth, the application of new technologies must be followed by adaptation. In this context, policymakers should consider sub-sectoral heterogeneity when designing policies for the Indian food processing industry so that the rates of applying technology and its adaptability can be matched for each industry sub-sector. Thus, the study offers a strong note of caution about investments in technological improvements.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140464836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study analyses the effect of the pandemic on the economics of milk production in the Malabar region of Kerala. The pre-tested structured schedule was used to collect primary data from 200 farmers, which was then analyzed using budgetary techniques. The cost of milk production during the lockdown increased mainly due to the shortage of feed and fodder. Reduction in net returns was highest (- `9 per litre) for the large herd-size category, whereas an increase in the cost of milk production (`3.7 per litre) was higher in the medium herd-size category. Among the milk marketing channels, farmers selling milk to consumer households experienced the highest increase in the cost of milk production (`5 per litre) as well as the highest decrease in net returns (`13 per litre) during the lockdown.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140467587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Correlation analysis demonstrated that BSE-Sensex was positively associated with CPI, exchange rate, and gold price but negatively associated with crude oil price. Economic regression analysis illustrated that BSE-Sensex was significantly influenced by its past value but had no relationship between select financial variables. The governments may intervene in currency markets to manage exchange rate fluctuations; impose price controls to prevent excessive price increases, encourage domestic oil production through exploration and technological advancements that can reduce reliance on imports, and implement regulations on gold imports, exports, and trading can help manage price fluctuations and subsequently impact stock market performance.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140469421","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, the study examined whether the satisfaction of the beneficiaries obtained through banking dimensions led to the frequent usage of bank accounts under the PMJDY. The data were collected from 380 beneficiaries of PMJDY from 12 administrative blocks in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, the Southern part of India. Factor analysis and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were used for the analysis. The results showed that the banking dimensions, viz. savings and borrowings and literacy and promotions, had positively influenced the beneficiaries' satisfaction. There was a linkage between the beneficiaries' satisfaction with frequent bank accounts under the PMJDY in rural areas of the Coimbatore region. It was found that an enriched banking service through politeness and benevolence of bank employees would enhance satisfaction, which helped the bank acquire and retain existing beneficiaries for a thriving business environment.","PeriodicalId":43367,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Economics and Development","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140465480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
