A projected image correction method based on projector-camera system needs to obtain the correspondence between projector and camera images, which is obtained by projecting the special patterns on a screen. The special patterns must be re-projected when changing the environment, e.g., the projector or screen is moved. On the other hand, this paper proposes a geometric correction method using SIFT feature points on a projected image which does not employ any special patterns to obtain the correspondence between projector and camera images. Experimental result shows that the use of our proposed method makes it possible to correct distortion of projected images with only one snapshot.","PeriodicalId":433468,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123908173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A scanned beam display has advantages of being small in device size, low in energy consumption, and capable of producing high-resolution and variable images. However, it suffers from two main problems: the non-uniform power spreading within a single light spot and the non-uniform light spot distribution in trajectory. While most work has been done to solve these problems from the hardware design perspective, we address these issues by minimizing the difference between input and output images on a software level. We also implemented our algorithm on Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) to achieve near real-time performance which is required by video display. Finally, the output light source control value is applied to a scanned beam display simulator, showing improved display images.","PeriodicalId":433468,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128669552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on the distortion cancellation algorithm to project an image onto curved screen without distortion. The virtual objects are represented as if it is located inside the screen. In this work, we demonstrate a new image-based document acquisition system, based on single-scatter diffuse transmission, that captures the intrinsic intensity information and shape distortion of documents. Using a simple to build and costeffective camera and LCD system, the data is acquired to allow for automatic photometric and geometric correction of most documents. We show the results of our system with single sheet nonplanar documents. Furthermore, to show the robustness of this system, we demonstrate the restoration on safety acetate film negatives over 70 years old that have been damaged due to shrinkage and other forms of deterioration.","PeriodicalId":433468,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123311529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a piecewise planar model, the method described here combines the advantages of global surface fitting and homographies to generate high accuracy geometric correction independent of the camera position and viewing angle. Experimental results validate the approach, achieving seamless displays with various multi-projector arrangements. The proposed calibration mechanism is applicable to both curved and planar screen surfaces and to single as well as multiple projector displays.","PeriodicalId":433468,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133223788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Resolution loss is caused by the fact that the second rendering pass must resample the result of the first rendering pass, and the two procedures in general have sampling rates that vary differently. We show that for a flat display surface, it is possible to choose a viewing direction for the first-pass render so that its sampling-rate variations cancel with variations of the second-pass sampling rate. This means that the first-pass effectively samples the projector frame-buffer evenly, so an appropriate resolution for the first-pass render will provide uniformly low aliasing over the entire framebuffer. We also show that, for flat display surfaces, this choice of view direction can be combined with an appropriate first-pass intrinsics matrix to eliminate the need for a second pass. The resulting single-pass rendering algorithm is very similar to existing single-pass techniques, but has a few advantages that we discuss.\u0000 For a non-flat display surface, relative sampling cannot be made perfectly uniform, but the optimal view direction for a best-fit plane provides an approximate solution when the display surface is almost flat. Although the approximation is poor when the display surface differs radically from a plane, we describe a technique for those cases, which automatically subdivides the display surface into partitions that are approximately planar. In common display-surface configurations, great improvements in rendering quality are obtained by using two or three partitions, which causes only modest rendering overhead.","PeriodicalId":433468,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131259882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since most previous and commercial products basically recover the shape with a point or a line for each scan, fast motion can not be captured in principle. One solution for the purpose is to use a single pattern (one shot scan). However, they often have stability problems and their result tend to have low resolution. In our recent study, we have developed a system which achieved dense and accurate 3D reconstruction from only a single image. The proposed system also had the advantage of being robust in terms of image processing. In this presentation, we introduce outline of our system, several applications and results.","PeriodicalId":433468,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133958357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To achieve this, we replace the cameras of a typical multi-camera setup with light sources and capture the multiplexed cast shadows. Because we only use a single camera, our setup is much cheaper than a classical setup, no camera synchronization is required, and less data has to be captured and processed. In addition, silhouette extraction is easy and robust, as we are segmenting the cast shadows instead of the background and objects' texture information. We evaluate our method on both a real and a virtual setup, and show that our technique works for a large variety of objects and materials.","PeriodicalId":433468,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems","volume":"131 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127375003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
