Materials and Methods: A total of 180 Y-PSZ disks were divided into two groups; the control group and the phosphoric acid etching group prior to the bonding with one of three self-adhesive luting agents; Panavia SA Cement Plus Automix (SAP), RelyX Unicem2 Automix (UC2), or Maxcem Elite Chroma (MXE). Bonded specimens were stored in distilled water, for 1 day, 30 days, or 150 days. After storage, the tensile bond strength was measured using a universal testing machine. The data were statistically analyzed using Welch's t -test and Welch's t -test with Bonferroni correction ( α = 0.05). Results: The tensile bond strength of each luting agent measured more than 15 MPa after 1 day of immersion in distilled water with or without phosphoric acid etching. There were no significant differences between SAP and UC2 after 30 days and 150 days ( p > 0.05) of immersion. SAP and UC2 showed significantly higher bond strength than MXE after 30 days and 150 days (p < 0.05) of immersion. There were no significant differences between with/without phosphoric acid etching in all groups ( p > 0.05). agent to Y-PSZ was material-dependent. A surface pre-treatment with phosphoric acid etching to Y-PSZ did not affect the bond strength of self-adhesive luting agent to Y-PSZ. Materials and Methods: Hematoporphyrin-stained paper (HSP) and artificially discolored bovine teeth (BT) were bleached by an in-office bleaching material containing low concertation of hydrogen peroxide and titanium dioxide photocatalyst. For the bleaching, light irradiation was performed at wavelengths of 265, 310, 365, 405, and 450 nm for HSP, and 265, 300, and 405+470 nm for BT. Before and after bleaching, color was measured to obtain CIE L*a*b* values. The color differences (ΔE) were calculated and were statistically analyzed. Results: In the HSP experiment, the 265 and 310 nm groups showed a remarkable bleaching effect and ΔE of the 310 nm group was statistically the highest ( p < 0.05). In the BT experiment, ΔE of the 265 nm group was statistically the highest followed by 300 nm, then 405+470 nm groups ( p < 0.05). Conclusion: UV-C (265 nm) and UV-B (300 and 310 nm) showed high bleaching effect with an in-office bleaching material containing low concentration of hydrogen peroxide and titanium dioxide photocatalyst. 20 Ten were bleached in each ( 10). After light irradiation, the bleaching material was removed. Before and after the bleaching procedure, a photograph was taken with a digital camera and the color of the HSP surface was measured by a CIE XYZ camera (RC500, PaPaLaB, Hamamatsu, Japan) and CIE L*a*b* values were obtained. Materials and Methods: Cylindrical cavities with one-half enamel and one-half dentin margins were prepared on the labial cervical region of bovine incisors. Cavities were restored using Clearfil tri-S Bond ND Quick and filled with Clearfil AP-X or Clearfil Photo Bright composite. The resin composites were cured using the conventional or the slow-start curing method. Half of specimens were thermocycled. Results: Clearfil AP-X showed significantly greater cavity-wall gap formation than that of Clearfil Photo Bright with both the conventional curing method and slow-start curing method with thermal cycling at 500 cycles (p < 0.05). The slow-start curing method showed significantly improved resin composite adaptation to the cavity wall compared with the conventional curing method for thermocycled Clearfil Photo Bright specimens (p < 0.05). Thermal cycling at 500 cycles significantly decreased cavity-wall gap formation compared with 0 cycle for Clearfil Photo Bright resin composites (p < 0.05). Clearfil Photo Bright using the slow-start curing method with thermal cycling at 500 cycles showed least cavity-wall gap formation. Conclusion: Light-cured composite, increased contrast ratio during polymerization with thermal cycling at 500 cycles, improved adaptation to the cavity wall using the slow-start curing method. The slow-start curing method facilitated the high reduction for residual stress of composite that had increased contrast ratio. Materials and Methods: After heating hardened alginate impression materials, a lump-like solid was powdered using a mortar and a pestle. The powder (experimental sand, ES) was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). To explore the suitable ES/wax ratio, three amounts (1, 3, and 5 g, corresponding to samples ES1, ES3, ES5, respectively) were blended with 6 g of casting wax. Casting wax bars without ES were also prepared as the control. In addition, commercial diatomite (reagent-grade diatomite, RD) and a commercial final polishing product for acrylic resin (TE) were examined and compared. A disk-shaped self-curing resin (diameter: 30 mm, thickness: 3 mm) was prepared as a specimen and ground by polishing paper (#800-1,000). Surface gross measurements and surface roughness values after polishing were determined using a gross meter. These surface roughness and gloss data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s multiple comparison test (α = 0.05). Results: Based on the XRD results, diatomite was successfully detected in the heated alginate impression material. Sample ES3 showed good performance in experimental polishing tools, and its polishing effects were almost identical to those of RD. However, ES3 was inferior to TE in terms of surface gloss, and ES0 exhibited no polishing effect. Conclusion: Within this limited study, diatomite obtained from alginate gel was found to be effective as the final polishing material in denture base resin. Methods: The authors studied 88 joints in 86 patients with TMJ disorders who underwent lysis and lavage in the superior space of the TMJ. The patients were referred for magnetic resonance (MR) imaging before and after surgery. The joints were divided into two categories based on the presence of TMJ effusion. Chi-square tests were used to evaluate differences between distributions for these two groups. The alpha level was set to 0.05. Results: The number of joints with effusion decreased after surgery. However, after surgery, there was no significant difference between the distributions of TMJ effusion for TMJs with and without limitation of mouth opening. Conclusion: The amount of joint effusion in the temporomandibular joint decreased after surgery, but the effusion did not completely disappear even after the clinical symptoms improved. It was suggested that the joint effusion naturally accumulates in a vacant space, the upper joint space located in the lateral recess.
