The study employed the phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research methods. The study was conducted with the participation of a total of 32 (17 female and 15 male) pre-service teachers attending a state university located in the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey in the spring term of the 2020-2021 academic year. The data of the study were collected through the online interviews conducted with the participants and the collected data were analyzed by using the content analysis method. As a result of the research, it can be stated that they encountered various obstacles in the process of online teaching practice, they had difficulty in providing classroom management and they were anxious. On the other hand, the participants also think that online teaching practice has advantages such as accessing information at the desired place and time, saving time and giving place to different online activities. In the light of these results, suggestions were made such as increasing the knowledge level of educators about online applications, providing hardware support to stakeholders and strengthening the infrastructure.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126817784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The criterion sample approach was utilized in this qualitative study, and 35 selected studies were reviewed using the publication classification form and analyzed using the content analysis method. The descriptive and methodological feature data were translated into frequency values using the SPSS 22 program and then interpreted using tables and charts for easy comprehension. Furthermore, the advantages and limitations of AR applications utilized in music education, which were the research's outputs, were coded, organized into relevant categories, and interpreted. The results showed that most studies focused on piano and guitar education for beginners; no studies were undertaken on wind instruments or voice training. Studies, particularly in recent years, have focused on user experience research. Furthermore, it was found that AR applications have the advantages of increasing and facilitating student learning performance, making learning exciting and fun, and providing motivation. Some challenges during use, owing to technical issues and limited field content in the programs, resulted in limited improvements in music education.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131375480","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The UN 2020 report highlights that this pandemic has caused the largest disruption of education in history with a near-universal impact on learners and teachers around the world. A total lockdown was enforced in Mauritius from 19th March 2020. On the eve, we prepared ourselves to adopt online teaching without any time to train our 400 part-time tutors and time to think about tutor and learner coping challenges. We just provided guidelines to teachers and learners. The next day, our tutors were performing tasks in which most were not competent. Along with teaching, they were also pushed to learn different skills and methods to teach online and acquaint themselves with new tools. It was a steep learning curve and daunting task leading to a sense of inadequacy as they attempted to reach out and make a difference for students. Yet, they did it and our syllabus coverage was not disrupted. This research adopts the narrative inquiry to gauge the driving forces that enabled teachers to teach under such circumstances, to be resilient, and to emerge as front-liners in education.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121630043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 454 high school students (9th – 12th grade) determined with the convenient sampling method constituted the sample of the study. The original scale was made up of 19 5-point Likert-type items. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed to examine the conformity of the data collected via the adapted scale to the five-factor structure of the original scale. As a result of CFA, it was seen that the factor structure of the original scale was preserved. The reliability of the scale was checked with the internal consistency coefficient for the whole scale and its factors. The Cronbach Alpha coefficients obtained were .840 for the whole scale and .734 for the abstraction factor, .734 for the decomposition factor, .770 for the algorithmic thinking factor, .835 for the evaluation factor and .730 for the generalization factor. The scale's Turkish translation was found to be a valid and trustworthy measurement tool for establishing the computational thinking proficiency levels of students in high school.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114589816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, individuals with social anxiety may not share their knowledge because of the discomfort they experience in interactions. The aim of this study is to examine the mediating role of social anxiety in learner–learner interaction in terms of the relationship between cyberostracism and knowledge sharing in e-learning environments. A total of 268 pre-service teachers participated in the study. The study determined the relationship between the variables with Pearson’s correlation coefficients and used a regression-based mediation test to examine the mediator model. It found that cyberostracism was positively related to social anxiety in learner–learner interactions in e-learning environments and negatively associated with knowledge sharing. There was also a negative relationship between social anxiety and knowledge sharing. Moreover, cyberostracism predicted knowledge sharing in e-learning environments. Finally, we determined that social anxiety in learner–learner interactions was the full mediator in the relationship between cyberostracism and knowledge sharing. Therefore, it can be argued that cyberostracism is not a direct predictor of pre-service teachers’ knowledge sharing behavior in e-learning environments and pre-service teachers avoid knowledge sharing due to social anxiety caused by cyberostracism. The research results also led to suggestions for practice and research.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134135539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cross-linguistic analysis through an online corpus query software revealed that Turkish writers distinguish some features of recurrent expressions more than others. Exploring the usage patterns of recurrent expressions among the native and non-native corpora, we also analysed the four-word recurrent expressions and featured the existing variations of functional and structural aspects. Structural expressions encompass verb-based, noun and propositional structures. The research, text, and participant-oriented recurrent expressions build up the functional groups. The most frequently used functional categories were location and description in research-oriented recurrent expressions. Data collection included compilation and categorization of the computerized corpora for possible differences and similarities. Sketch Engine, an online text analysis tool, was used for the analysis. The findings indicated that the online Sketch Engine tool made it possible to observe the positive role of recurrent expressions in the learning of disciplinary features. We also found structural similarities, indicating strong functional features for constructing discourse in research writing. The implication is that creating appropriate academic discursive practices with a focus on the properties of the recurrent expressions can be better analysed by employing several online corpus tools.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132080920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the research, the pre-test – post-test control group design, which is one of the quasi-test designs, was used. In the Mathematics lessons conducted with the test group for a three-week period, the subject of circumference measurement was taught with dynamic geometry software, whereas the control group followed the current curriculum. As data collection tools, the 21-item “4th Grade Circumference Measurement Achievement Test” (KR20=.81) developed by Öksüz and Genç (2021) and “Primary School Mathematics Motivation Scale” (KR20=.94) developed by Ersoy and Öksüz (2015) were utilized. The pre-test was applied concurrently to the test and control groups one week before the research was initiated, and the post-test was applied immediately after the research was ended. In the study, paired-samples t-test was used to compare the pre-test and post-test scores of the students in the test and control groups within the groups; whereas covariance analysis (ANCOVA) was used to compare the post-test scores of the related groups. As a result of the research, it was concluded that there was a statistically significant difference between the achievement and motivation post-test scores of the students in the test group who learned the subject of “Circumference Measurement” with the dynamic geometry software and the students in the control group who did not use this program on behalf of the test group.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"247 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115004268","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Gamified environments are among the most widespread techniques used to enrich online instructional experiences due to motivation and engagement dimensions. In this context, the research aimed at determining the reactions of pre-service English teachers to such gamified modules. The study, which employed a mixed-method research design to collect data, included the third-grade English Language Teaching (ELT) department students who participated in an online gamified module created on Google Classroom. Participants were asked to complete a series of tasks and design a gamified lesson plan in the context of teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) as the final assignment of the module. Upon completion of the module, participants were administered an experience survey comprising of both scales and semi-structured interview questions. As a result, it was found that a great majority of the participants regarded this gamified experience as something entirely new and an enjoyable prospect. It was noted that such opportunities would improve their future professional lives since gamified content could increase motivation and engagement and serve as great language learning tools for language classrooms.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126379500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nonetheless, research examining the complex relationships between cyberloafing and smartphone addiction is still insufficient. Thus, the present study aims to establish the mediating role of fear of missing out, which is a cognitive and emotional process, in the effect of university students’ level of cyberloafing upon their smartphone addiction level. The study group of the research is represented by 338 students receiving formation training in the faculty of education, at a state university. For the purpose of data collection, the Smartphone Addiction Scale - Short version, the Cyberloafing Scale, and the Fear of Missing Out Scale were used. The model was tested using structural equation modeling and bootstrapping. Structural equation modeling results provide evidence of indirect effects of cyberloafing on smartphone addiction partial mediated by fear of missing out. According to the Bootstrapping method, fear of missing out has an indirectly significant role in the relationship between cyberloafing and smartphone addiction. The findings emphasized the role of fear of missing out in explaining the relationship between cyberloafing and smartphone addiction. The study concludes by discussing relevant conclusions in the literature, and putting forth several recommendations based on these conclusions.","PeriodicalId":432949,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Educational Technology and Online Learning","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117114837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
