We find that the occurrence of financial fraud is negatively related to firms’ and inventors’ innovation outputs, both quantitatively and qualitatively. This finding is attributed to the negative impact of fraud on individual inventors’ productivity and the number of inventors deployed. Moreover, cross-sectional tests suggest that such impact is more pronounced when top-level management’s tone is more myopic, when fraud is more observable to employees, or when trust between inventors and firms is lacking. Our results hold when we implement an instrumental variable regression based on the SEC’s past enforcement activities and when we include various controls that reflect alternative explanations. In conclusion, our study implies that financial fraud not only hurts shareholders but also damages valuable human capital and results in “brain drain”. ","PeriodicalId":432527,"journal":{"name":"IRPN: Innovation & Human Resource Management (Topic)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116741673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Corporate education emphasizes management strategies and mechanisms for management control, co-ordination, communication, monitoring, learning and adjustment. It is expected that for these processes to be effective, organizational structures must become less hierarchical and more open to information and employee involvement at all levels to enhance adaptive strategies that require very flexible management processes. Eighty respondents participated in the study conducted through the exploratory research design using secondary and primary data. Result of the analysis of data showed strong positive correlation between career management and employee performance. The study was not however exhaustive due to some limitations. Therefore, further study could examine the relationship between career management and management failure at SMEs levels. Among others, it was suggested that vocational education should be given proper attention so as to prepare people for entrepreneurship ventures which hold the key to economic development in this century and beyond.","PeriodicalId":432527,"journal":{"name":"IRPN: Innovation & Human Resource Management (Topic)","volume":"240 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115254147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, empirical evidence suggested this relationship is complex. This study attempts to address this complexity by proposing and testing a curvilinear mechanism, which attenuates the overall positive effect of LMX on creativity by transmitting a curvilinear indirect effect via vertical task conflict. Results drawn from a sample of 276 supervisor–subordinate dyads provided support for the hypothesized curvilinear indirect effect. Specifically, LMX was found to negatively influence employee creativity by suppressing vertical task conflict for subordinates in high‐quality LMX relationships, while the indirect effect was not significant for subordinates in low‐quality LMX relationships.","PeriodicalId":432527,"journal":{"name":"IRPN: Innovation & Human Resource Management (Topic)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125920802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper formulates a general continuous time Stackelberg game to characterize the pricing and adoption decisions of a new technology between the supplier and the firm, under the consideration of the incentive issues of employees. The new technology can either increase the firm's productivity, decrease its running cost, or do both. Among the three players, the supplier (leader) first offers the new technology at a price, the firm (follower) then decides whether and when to adopt the technology, and each employee of the firm decides whether to use the technology or not (if the firm adopts). Each employee who decides to use this new technology would encounter a stochastic learning cost, and hence not all of them would use it. First, we are able to obtain the closed-form solution of the firm's optimal adoption decision. In particular, we characterize the threshold adoption policy and three adoption regions (no adoption, full adoption, and partial adoption region). Next, we consider the design of incentive wage contract to motivate the technology adoption among employees. We find that it is always optimal to adjust the piece-rate alone instead of jointly adjust the base salary and piece-rate in terms of firm’s revenue. Finally, we characterize the supplier's equilibrium price and present the sensitivity analyses. We show numerically that the supplier's equilibrium price is lower by adjusting the piece-rate as compared to adjusting the base salary; however, its revenue is always higher. At the end, we extend our main model with the impact of employees' learning time and quality uncertainty of the new technology. We find that employees' learning time delays technology adoption and the quality uncertainty can either decrease or increase the firm's adoption time.","PeriodicalId":432527,"journal":{"name":"IRPN: Innovation & Human Resource Management (Topic)","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116712668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We find that firms with a higher defined benefit (DB) pension value secure more patents and patent citations. We further show that pension freezes, which stop the accumulation of pension obligations, negatively affect innovation outcomes. The value of a DB plan enhances innovation by motivating employees to produce higher output and through loyalty. However, pension deficits impede innovation because of the nature of inside debt. Overall, our findings call for a fresh look at pensions by policy makers and practitioners, given the historic shift away from DB plans. To be proactive, institutions have developed staffing plans, which provide an arbitrary framework that outlines human capital needs based on educational demand. While these plans can set a standard expectancy to maintain current or historical performance, many lack the capacity for projection and effectively responding to new and emerging trends. Therefore, based on the external anticipation for change blended with the rapid shift to globalization and technological advancements there is a need to create a framework to help institutions navigate the future of attracting, hiring and retaining employees.","PeriodicalId":432527,"journal":{"name":"IRPN: Innovation & Human Resource Management (Topic)","volume":"239 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130437082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

So every modern management has to develop the organization through human resource development. Employee training is the important sub-system of human resource management. Training is the act of increasing the knowledge and skills of an employee for doing a particular job. Training is a short-term educational process and utilizing a systematic and organized procedure by which employees learn technical knowledge and skills for a definite purpose. In other words training improves, changes, moulds the employee’s knowledge, skill, behavior, aptitude, and attitude towards the requirements of the job, and organization. While the former refers to training given it employees in the areas of operations, technical and allied areas, the latter refers to developing an employee in the areas of principles and techniques of management, administration, organization and allied areas .This paper aims to attempt the need of training and development programmes in respective organization and examine the methods and evolution of training programmes was discussed.","PeriodicalId":432527,"journal":{"name":"IRPN: Innovation & Human Resource Management (Topic)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-01-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121191140","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
