If time variable RF excitation that reaches the limit set by the short duration specific absorption rate limit and the implant thermal time constant is comparable to or less than 10s, RF induced heating on and near an implant during magnetic resonance imaging can be up to factor of 2 higher than RF induced heating caused by continuous RF excitation reaches the limit set by whole body specific absorption rate limit defined by IEC 60601-2-33. Parametric comparison of common received signal features such as radio frequency, pulse width, pulse repetition interval and angle-of-arrival can lead to either (1) multiple emitters producing a single ID, or (2) a single emitter producing multiple IDs. This work considers the use of radio frequency-distinct native attribute (RF-DNA) features to augment traditional parametric comparison approaches to augment emitter ID and reduce ambiguity. Applying RF-DNA techniques to emitter identification provides a new way of reducing or removing this ambiguity. Previously only used for communications signals, we demonstrate the concept of using RF-DNA on simulated radar signals. Initial results indicate up to 85% accuracy in determining an ambiguous pulse descriptor word was transmitted from a digitally reproduced source.","PeriodicalId":431569,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Microwaves, Communications, Antennas and Electronic Systems (COMCAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130746823","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We show that by utilizing more transmit antennas at the base station - which are already used for point-to-point communications - and simple space-time coding (STC) techniques, a significant boost in performance can be achieved. To this end, we evaluate the performance of different transmission strategies along with the information theoretic optimal performance. For a fast Rayleigh fading channel, we show that a gain of 1 bit/sec/Hz is achieved for a signal-to-noise ratio of 10dB, and higher gains for higher signalto- noise-ratios for for an outage probability of 0.01. Moreover, we demonstrate that Alamouti STC is near optimum for typical signal-to-noise ratios. However, for more antennas, due to the inherent loss of multiplexing of orthogonal STC schemes, non-orthogonal STC schemes with higher multiplexing need to be considered.","PeriodicalId":431569,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Microwaves, Communications, Antennas and Electronic Systems (COMCAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130170379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carbon-fiber composites (CFC's) replace steel as chassis material, which leads to reduced radiation efficiency. As the production processes of shark-fin antenna modules shift towards laser direct structuring (LDS), it is investigated, if antenna efficiency can be increased by the introduction of a LDS ground plane. Differences in antenna performance are presented on the example of simple LDS and wire monopole-antennas for 5:9GHz (IEEE 801.11p, ITS G5). Gain, efficiency, return loss and the radiation patterns of an LDS design, a CFC and an aluminum ground plane are compared.","PeriodicalId":431569,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE International Conference on Microwaves, Communications, Antennas and Electronic Systems (COMCAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122051229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the control loop, the gain is linear-in-magnitude versus the control input. Additionally, the control loop makes the circuit robust towards process and temperature variations of the transistors. The measured low phase variation versus control range of less than 3.5° and the high gain control range of 33 dB make this VGA a suitable building block for multi-antenna front-ends. Furthermore, the circuit shows a large 3 dB bandwidth of 15 GHz and therewith covers multiple ISM frequency bands.
