The procedure is iterative and hierarchical. Starting from a detailed description of the manufacturing process by the Unified Modeling Language (UML), the VSM graphical approach allows the identification and removal of non-value adding activities. The re-designed manufacturing system is represented in detail by UML to describe the novel system activities. The use of discrete event simulation allows the verification of the updated production system. Applying the lean manufacturing strategy to a real case study shows its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132976466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the virtual production lines (VPLs), production time and WIP are allocated for each process step by products. Then a pull release policy and dispatching rule is proposed to control each VPL. We generate a SWFS case from a real-life wafer fab to evaluate the performances of the proposed methodology. Results of the numerical experiments show that the proposed methodology is effective in solving multi-objective scheduling problems for semiconductor wafer fabrication system (SWFS).","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132156884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The robot is made thinly and small to maneuver in a micro-fluidic chip. A nozzle is fabricated by photolithography using SU-8. The robot has a suction pump activated by an electrical magnet and permanent magnet. We realized high-power suction of micro-scale robot by a miniaturization of cross-section of the nozzle and a speed-up of the pumping using electrical magnet and elastic PDMS membrane. We succeeded in high-power fixation and high-speed transportation of cells using this micro-robot. We also succeeded in cell loading with this robot and micro-fluidic chip.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130453354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we discuss opacity and diagnosability of infinite-state DESs modeled by pushdown automata (called here pushdown systems). First, we discuss opacity of pushdown systems, and it is proven that opacity of pushdown systems is in general undecidable. In addition, a decidable class is clarified. Next, in diagnosability, it is proven that under some assumption, which is different to an assumption in an existing result, diagnosability of pushdown systems is decidable. Furthermore, a necessary condition and a sufficient condition using finite-state approximations are derived, respectively. Finally, we discuss the relation between opacity and diagnosability. The obtained result is useful for developing control theory of infinite-state DESs.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122204682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, an automated microrobotic system, the Cellular Force Microscope (CFM) has been developed. Its suitability for single cell characterization has been reported in previous work and extensive use on characterization of both single cells and tissues has been demonstrated. A simple experimental method for the determination of the CFM's accuracy, based on the comparison of the measured stiffness with the true stiffness of a calibrated SI-traceable reference artifact, is demonstrated. This method is a practical alternative to the complex complete uncertainty analysis of all the sensors involved in the stiffness measurement based on an SI-traceable reference artifact. We then use the CFM to characterize the stiffness of living Tobacco BY2 cells. The apparent stiffness is determined from the force indentation curves collected from living cells at forces ranging from 10 microNewtons to forces in which the cell slips away or ruptures. The results show a nonlinear increase in the apparent cell stiffness as the applied load increases. This observation combined with the reference measurements done on the calibrated stiffness standard dictate that the stiffness variation stems from the biological organism and not from the CFM.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121666634","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For safety and security concerns, verification and testing must be performed on the Simulink/Stateflow designs and the generated code. In this paper, we present an automatic test generation approach for Simulink/Stateflow based on its translation to Input/Output Extended Finite Automata (I/O-EFA) that we have developed in our prior works. The test generation problem requires identifying the executable paths of the I/O-EFA model and also generating a test input for those paths. Note in order to execute a path, a certain sequence of other paths must be executed first, which we automatically identify. The approach is implemented by applying two different techniques, model checking and constraint solving. Both test generation implementations are validated by a case study. The results show that both implementations can generate test cases as expected and the implementation based on constraint solving is in general faster.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127745282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, the position accuracy of the bucket wheel at the end of boom measured by the onboard encoder system is limited to 30cm. To maintain such accuracy, calibrated points have to be placed along the rail, which is inefficient and costly. This paper proposes a simulation study using Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) algorithm to fuse DGPS and encoder data for BWR localization. The results obtained indicate that the errors in positional accuracy are better than 15cm and UKF is an objective technology that can be applied to localize such large scaled machine.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133294543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We designed and fabricated two basic modular fluidic components including pumps and mixers, which can be easily swapped and integrated into a variety of modular devices for ready assembly of a fully-portable, disposable fluidic system. An integrated SFM utilizes finger-driven electricity free pumps to transport the fluids. Using the swirling mechanism, the vortex mixer, simultaneously actuated by two pumps, has established a mixing index of 93% in a one-shot mixing event. The assembled SFM, working as a sample loader, was serially jointed a DNA application zone to establish a capillary convective polymerase chain reaction (ccPCR) test kit for performing the experiments of rapid DNA amplification. The successful results indicate the amplified DNA sequences from Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) in 30 min using ccPCR. Besides, the current SFM in conjunction with ccPCR show great potential for many bio-applications.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133381796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For tractability, we assume that the setup probability is constant and independent from customer to customer; the setup duration is constant. We show that the internal state of such a flow line can be modeled as a Markov chain when customers arrive in a just-in-time (JIT) fashion. We then develop expressions for the system throughput. We apply our models to clustered photolithography tools and demonstrate how the methods can be used to calculate their capacity.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132524824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
