We propose that the government wholesale market called the Mandi should be transformed into an electronic marketplace (exchange) for agricultural produce. An important function of the electronic exchange is to match the supply of the farmers' produce with the demand from the wholesalers and retailers. We present a mixed integer programming model that the electronic exchange needs to solve in an iterative way to optimally match buyers with sellers. We present a stylized case study to illustrate the functioning of such a Mandi exchange. We believe such a Mandi exchange will have a translational impact on agricultural trading, particularly in India.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"243 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121320234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We realize that the frequency characteristics of the inverse dynamics of the manipulator is similar to that of high pass filter and the sensor noise filter is in the form of low pass filter whereas the collision between the robot and human is relatively high frequency. By investigating the frequency characteristics of each part of the manipulator and possible disturbances, we proposes a set of band-width filters using intrinsic data and detects the human-robot collision while the robot is in motion for performing some tasks. We verify the effectiveness of the method using two different types of robotic manipulators; electric motor driven manipulator and manipulator with hydraulic rotary actuators. In both cases, experimental data show that the robot-human collision can be detected reliably and faster than simply using a joint torque sensor while the manipulator load is not constant.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122733179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The employed compliant nano-positioner is featured with a symmetric 4-PP (P represents prismatic joint) structure in which four-bar flexures are designed as the prismatic joints, meanwhile two embedded piezoelectric ceramic actuators (PZT) are adopted. Based on the identified plant transfer function of the nano-positioner, the presented control strategy and the traditional PID controller are implemented with different input scanning frequencies of 0.5 Hz and 2.5 Hz for comparisons. Both the simulation results and the practical experimental results demonstrate that the presented TLSH control method obviously performs better than the traditional PID method in the presence of plant model uncertainty, which will be applied to perform practical micromanipulation tasks.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116724046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, conventional torque sensors are too bulky and expensive to be used for a robot hand. To cope with these problems, in this study, we propose a novel 2-DOF torque sensor, which uses the link frame of a robot hand as the torque sensor structure. Through FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis, the size of the sensor was minimized, while its unique structure minimizes cross-talks, thus enabling precise measurement of torques. Its performance was verified using a torque sensor calibration set.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116842277","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main goal of the POROS project is to demonstrate that patient positioning systems (PPS) based on industrial robots are reliable solutions for these treatments. However, due to its high number of degrees of freedom (6 DOF), size, and especially important payload weight, such an industrial robot, rigid by definition, holds elastic and geometric deformations. A method to calibrate this type of system in order to take into account these deformation errors, for different payloads, is presented in this article. As the patient weight varies and can reach high values, the rigid model is completed by a flexible one taking into account these deformations. Then, this model with a physical meaning of its parameters is calibrated, in order to reduce the positioning errors. The results of the rigid and the flexible model are compared, indicating that a flexible model is more adapted for the high accuracy requirements of a PPS. Validation results confirm the effectiveness of this model.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129762336","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But single kernel may not describe the varying distribution very well. Multi-kernel learning (MKL) method was developed and proved to perform better than single kernel. Previous studies have been conducted to build up a fixed model, which takes the sample distance as the assessment index. However, different condition may have the same distribution in feature space. In this paper, we proposed a new robust method for bearing performance degradation assessment based on multi-kernel SVDD, and designed a new index with hyper-sphere radius. The cluster tool system consists of several load lock modules, processing devices, and material handling armed robots for transferring wafers between them. In order to improve total throughput of cluster tools, a deadlock-free scheduling is highly required for various types of wafer flow patterns or various equipment configurations. In this paper, we propose a Petri net decomposition approach to the optimization of scheduling of dual-armed cluster tools for semiconductor manufacturing. A timed Petri net model is introduced to represent scheduling problems for dual-armed cluster tools. In order to obtain a deadlock-free schedule, we develop a deadlock avoidance control policy that restricts the marking to prevent unmarked siphons. The developed control policy is combined with the Petri net decomposition approach to generate a feasible solution. Computational results show the effectiveness of the proposed method combined with deadlock avoidance policy.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129172542","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the CCEMS, Graphical User Interface (GUI) plays an important role that allows users to interact with the system for controlling and operating equipment, monitoring equipment performance and statuses, detecting and diagnosing equipment faults, conjecturing production quality and precision of equipment, and so on. To overcome the shortcomings of traditional Web GUIs, this paper proposes a novel Web application implementation framework, called NWAIF, for the CCEMS, by using Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology. Finally, a paradigm CCEMS for monitoring CNC machine tools is constructed and used to validate the efficacy of the CCEMS and NWAIF. Testing results show that the paradigm CCEMS meets the desired functional requirements and the GUIs created by using the proposed NWAIF is superior to traditional Web-based GUIs in terms of shorter response times to complete the testing operations.","PeriodicalId":430428,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123492425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
