However, little empirical research has tested psychological interventions for this frequent problem. This preliminary study explored the efficacy of a three-session protocol of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) focused on repetitive negative thinking (RNT) for the treatment of complicated breakup grief in three women. A nonconcurrent, across participant, randomized multiple-baseline design was conducted. The three participants showed very large decreases in breakup distress that surpassed the criteria for claiming clinically significant changes. Two participants showed clinically significant changes in emotional symptoms, and all of them attained significant changes in life satisfaction. All three participants showed clinically significant changes in repetitive negative thinking, experiential avoidance, cognitive fusion, and valued living. Effect sizes comparable across designs were very large and statistically significant for breakup distress (d = 7.11), emotional symptoms (d = 2.46), and life satisfaction (d = 1.25). In conclusion, RNT-focused ACT protocols might be efficacious in cases of complicated breakup grief.","PeriodicalId":43024,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Psicoterapia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45139307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

SLE causes a series of physical and psychological symptoms that, due to its chronic course, lead to a diminished quality of life. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is accumulating evidence supporting its usefulness in improving the psychological problems associated with SLE although research remains scarce. The aim of this study was to study the efficacy of a 10-hour brief ACT intervention protocol in group format in 15 patients with SLE from Navarra. Nine belonged to the experimental group (n1 = 9) and six to the control group (n2 = 6). Measures related to psychological flexibility processes and quality of life were taken before the intervention (pre), at the end (post), at one month and after three months (follow-up). The participants in the experimental group showed a substantial improvement in the degree of acceptance of pain and in variables focused on quality of life with respect to the control group. The improvements tended to be sustained over time. These results suggest that brief, group-based ACT interventions show promise for intervention in patients with SLE.","PeriodicalId":43024,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Psicoterapia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48034223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, we quantified the satisfaction and effectiveness perceived by the user after the intervention. Sixty adults (70.4% female) with an average age of 41.49 years were included. The instruments used pre- and post-intervention were the abbreviated versions of the Symptom Checklist (SA-45), the Clinical Outcome Measure (CORE-OM), the Coping Inventory (COPE-28) and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISK). The Client Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ-8) and the Perceived Intervention were completed after the end of the intervention. This intervention was designed with the objectives of decreasing initial symptomatology through psychoeducation and brief regulation exercises to enhance positive coping strategies and resilience. The results showed a significant decrease (p<.05) in the initial symptomatology on all the dimensions analyzed and a significant improvement on the coping strategies and resilience. A high overall score was observed in the users´ satisfaction and perceived efficacy. In conclusion, our results point to a high efficacy of an online brief psychological intervention in a lockdown context.\"","PeriodicalId":43024,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Psicoterapia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42283857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study explored the efficacy of a brief protocol based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focused on repetitive negative thinking (RNT) in adults suffering from panic disorder. We designed a 4-session RNT-focused ACT protocol because previous CBT studies considered this length “ultra-brief.” Additionally, although conducting exposure is consistent with the ACT model, we did not include explicit exposure exercises to increase the intervention acceptability. A randomized, multiple-baseline design across three participants was implemented with a 3-month follow-up. The effect of the intervention was evaluated through weekly scores on the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale – 21 (DASS-21; S. H. Lovibond & P. F. Lovibond, 1995), Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ; Meyer et al., 1990), and the frequency of panic attacks. After the intervention, all participants ceased to experience panic attacks and showed clinically significant changes in the DASS-Total and PSWQ. The effect sizes comparable across designs were very large and statistically significant for the DASS-Total (d= 2.48), DASS-Depression (d= 1.45), DASS-Anxiety (d= 1.93), DASS-Stress (d= 1.63), and PSWQ (d= 2.36). All three participants also showed clinically significant changes and large effect sizes in experiential avoidance (d= 3.26), cognitive fusion (d= 3.58), and valued living (Progress: d= 0.72, Obstruction: d= 2.43). The present study analyzes the efficacy of a brief Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) protocol focused on reducing RNT in four women diagnosed with FM. A randomized, multiple-baseline design across participants was conducted. Participants completed 4-6 weeks of baseline and subsequently received a 4-session individual intervention. The effect of the intervention was assessed by conducting follow-ups for up to 3 months. All four participants showed clinically significant changes in emotional symptoms as measured by the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale – 21 (DASS-21¸ S. H. Lovibond y P. F. Lovibond, 1995) and the General Health Questionnaire – 12 (Ruiz et al., 2017a). Likewise, participants showed significant improvements in parameters related to sleep quality and improvements in health-related quality of life. As for process measures, all participants showed clinically significant changes in pathological worry, and three of them also in cognitive fusion. Changes in valued actions were more modest. Effect sizes comparable across designs were very large and statistically significant for DASS-Total (d = 1.51), DASS-Depression (d = 1.83), pathological worry (d = 1.79), and cognitive fusion (d = 1.99). These include acceptance and awareness as well values and behavior change processes. Still, the primary vehicle for implementing these processes is the therapeutic relationship. Underscoring the importance of the relationship is paramount – it is the context in which the interventions emerge, allowing the therapist to shape psychological flexibility directly. We argue that the therapeutic alliance (TA) is co-created and is a critical factor contributing to the effectiveness of ACT. This paper focuses on the TA as a vital part of ACT treatment. We discuss the therapeutic alliance from an ACT perspective, explore different roles in implementing ACT, and conclude with a clinical case illustration. We more specifically focus on how the TA alliance and the therapeutic relationship can be a vehicle of change in ACT.","PeriodicalId":43024,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Psicoterapia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41321884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All of the participants (183 attendees that participated in a Grief Workshops at a socio-health centre in the Community of Madrid) have gone under bereavement experiences, average age of 50 years (SD = 16), 81% (149) being women. A questionnaire was given provided to the participants including sociodemographic and mourning related variables, circumstances of decease, perception of farewell and sway(s) and performance of the farewell. A multiple linear regression was performed by backward steps with the effect of farewell as a dependent variable. The adjusted model allowed a correct estimation of the effect of the farewell of 55% of the cases (corrected R2 = 0.548), being perception of farewell (Beta = -0.403) the variable with the highest impact in the prognosis followed by the perception of elaboration of the mourning (Beta = 0.327), the fact that there has been an explicit farewell and the level of awareness of death by the deceased (Beta = 0.175). The perception of the performance of a farewell in any of its formats is a variable of great weight for the suitable development of the grieving process. Although explicit, verbalized, pre-death, farewells and at the initiative of the mourner have higher positive effect, the implicit, non-verbalized farewells, at the initiative of the deceased and / or posthumously do also a have an effect on the evolution of the grieving process.","PeriodicalId":43024,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Psicoterapia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47011106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

El objetivo de este estudio es: 1) analizar las valoraciones éticas realizadas por profesionales de la salud mental del sistema sanitario público español en torno a algunas situaciones que pudieran darse en la práctica psicoterapéutica; 2) determinar situaciones controvertibles y/o de bajo consenso; y 3) estudiar la relación entre la categoría profesional y la orientación psicoterapéutica con la valoración ético-deontológica. Método: 308 participantes (209 mujeres y 99 hombres) todos ellos ejercitantes en servicios públicos de salud mental, cumplimentaron catorce ítems de la “Escala de ajuste ético y deontológico” (Pastor, 2017), así como un cuestionario de perfil sociodemográfico y profesional elaborado ad hoc. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos de los ítems y contrastes no paramétricos. Resultados: La categoría profesional y la orientación psicoterapéutica influyeron en las valoraciones éticas que se realizaron respecto a las situaciones planteadas en la escala. Se encontraron dos ítems de bajo consenso interprofesional relacionados con el derecho a la autonomía del paciente y con la terapia familiar y de pareja. Conclusiones: Se discute en torno a los aspectos éticos implicados en: 1) el debate “técnica” versus “relación”; 2) los sesgos profesionales; y 3) el mantenimiento de la relación terapéutica.","PeriodicalId":43024,"journal":{"name":"Revista de Psicoterapia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44005121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
