Honey bee colonies depend on stored food in their hives to manage the dearth periods successfully. This study compared the effect of three different patties, Bee Fonda ® a pollen supplement (BF), home-made substitute (H) consists of two thirds powdered sugar and one third of powdered yeast, a home-made substitute mixed with Bee Plus ® (BP) and sugar syrup (C) on colonies growth rate. The petties were introduced either between the frames (on a queen excluder of 15x20 cm 2 ) or above the frames. Colonies received BF between the frames had the highest mean of brood area, while colonies of BP between the frames had the highest means of honey and colonies of BP above the frames had the highest mean of bee bread areas. Regardless the patty type, patties located between frames had the highest mean of brood and honey areas, while bee bread areas were not affected. As a general mean of type of bee patties, the BF group had highest mean of brood area and the BP was superior in both of honey and bee bread means areas.","PeriodicalId":429950,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129761636","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sakha-53 under four sowing dates i.e. (SD 1 : 1 st July, SD 2 : 15 th July, SD 3 : 1 st August and SD 4 : 15 th August) and four plant spacing (P 1 : 15 cm, P 2 : 20 cm, P 3 : 25 cm and P 4 : 30 cm with constant width, 60 cm). The results refer to significant influences of sowing date, plant spacing and their interaction for all studied traits across both seasons. Early sowing date on 1 st July significantly increased thermal indices and the seed yield associated with as increase of other studied traits. With regard to plant spacing, increasing plant spacing from 15, 20, 25, and up to 30 cm recorded increase gradually of crop phenology, number of leaves plant -1 , leaf area plant -1 , stem diameter, head diameter, 1000-seed weight, seed weight plant -1 , daily seed weight plant -1 , growing degree days (GDD) and heliothermal units (HTU) while narrow spacing at 15 cm produced the tallest plants , heaviest seed, oil yield, highest heliothermal use efficiency (HTUE), heat use efficiency (HUE) and photothermal index(PTI). The interaction among sowing dates and plant spacing had a significant effect on all studied traits, revealing that the heaviest seed yield (1300 and 1327 kg fed -1 ) was produced from the interaction of SD 1 × P 1 in both seasons.","PeriodicalId":429950,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133472913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Balady) by accessing superior earliness pure lines using an individual plant selection breeding program. Six cycles of individual plant selection were carried out at the Agricultural Experimental Station Farm at Abies region, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University, Egypt, which resulted in ten pure lines with distinct horticultural traits. The selected pure lines were evaluated in the summer season of 2020 with the original population. The results showed that the pure lines L5 and L1 recorded significantly the lowest mean values compared to all the genotypes for the earliness traits, viz., days number to first flower and pod, as well as days number to 50% flowering, and days number to first harvest. Moreover, the selected pure lines significantly exceeded the original population in the characteristics of early and total yield per plant, and the three pure lines L4, L8, and L9 were the most distinguished for these traits. Concerning correlation estimates, the characteristics of earliness reflected positive and significant correlations between one another, as well as, with the characteristics plant height and early yield as the number of pods. The results of cluster analysis illustrated that the first group (I) was distinguished as being the earliest, while the third (III) and fourth (IV) clusters were the best for the productivity traits. So, it is recommended to use the pure lines L4, L8, and L9 to improve total and early yield as well as the earliness traits.","PeriodicalId":429950,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129399400","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Greenhouse experiments carried out at Department of Plant pathology, Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University. While, the field experiments were carried out at El-Kanater Research Station, Qaluobia Governorate, to study the effect of some natural compounds (chitosan, methionine, and ascorbic acid) on the tolerance of strawberry plants to Rhizoctonia root rot disease, as well as the vegetative growth, chemical composition of the plant, fruit yield and its components, as well as the quality of the yield of strawberry Festival Cultivar compared to untreated infected strawberry plants. Obtained results showed that applications with chitosan at 500 ppm, methionine at 20 ppm and ascorbic acid at 20 mM via transplant root soaking, foliar spray, and combining the root soaking with foliar spray, or transplant root soaking with Rhizolex (1g/L) showed significant decrease in root rot incidence caused by Rhizoctonia solani. The combining of root soaking with foliar spray of chitosan or methionine resulted the highest significant decreases of disease incidence under greenhouse and field conditions. However, all applications except Rhizolex resulted in significant increases in phenolic compounds, oxidative enzymes activity i.e., PPO, SOD and CAT in roots during the two growing seasons. Obtained results showed also that soaking plus foliar spraying with chitosan at 500ppm, methionine at 20 ppm and ascorbic acid at 20 mM significantly increased all vegetative growth characters, N, P, K and total carbohydrates in plant foliage, fruit yield and its components as well as physical and chemical fruit quality.","PeriodicalId":429950,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115126445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results showed that the agronomic (i.e., number of days to maturity, plant height, grain yield and its components), physiological (i.e., relative water content, and chlorophyll a & b) and anatomocal estimates (i.e., thickness of leaf lamina, cuticle layer, upper epidermis, lower epidermis, mesophyll tissue, midrib, main vascular bundle dimension (length and width), collenchyma tissue, xylem tissue, phloem tissue and bulliform cells) were decreased under water stress conditions, except for proline and leaf temperature. Line 1, Line 2, Sids 14, Giza 171 and Sakha 95 were the most tolerant genotypes and may be suitable for water shortage conditions. High values of relative water content, chlorophyll and proline contents, low values of flag leaf temperature, in addition to the lowest reduction in leaf anatomical characters may be useful selection criteria for water stress tolerance in bread wheat.","PeriodicalId":429950,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129957222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Phenomena such as heavy rain, drought and salt intrusion increasingly and negatively affect their crop production and productivity, with far-reaching socio-economic and environmental impacts. Reliable hydro-climatic information service received in a timely manner could help farmers improve their responses to hydro -climatic variability, thus improving their agricultural decision-making. This study aims to answer the following questions: What is the currently available technical package of BestFit Practices (BFPs)? What are the levels of application/ adoption of these BFPs among WGs in ND of Egypt? What are the relationships between the WGs' levels of application/ adoption and their characteristics? Study was conducted in 3 villages in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate. A sample of 278 WGs was personally interviewed, by using a questionnaire designed for data collection. The most important results could be summarized as follows: Farmers perceived hydro-climatic variability as high and the quality of available hydro-climatic information as poor. They indicated a need for more accurate, time-specific, trusted and applicable information for improving agricultural decision-making. It was conclude that there is high potential and need for hydro-climatic information services tailored for farmers in the study area. The results of factorial analysis showed that there were three main factors namely: a) Efficient Agricultural Production, b) Innovative and Trustworthy Information, and c) experience-based personal influence. These three factors, together explain 52.34% of the total variance.","PeriodicalId":429950,"journal":{"name":"Scientific Journal of Agricultural Sciences","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133831414","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
