Mature green mangoes of uniform quality were sanitized with 200 µL L-1 NaOCl, air dried, and packed inside newspaper-lined bamboo baskets, then treated with different concentrations of 1-MCP (0, 1, 10, and 140 µL L-1) in sachets (EthylBloc™) for 24 h under ambient room conditions (27.1±2.0 °C; 87.0±8.6% RH). After treatment, the mangoes were stored in a cold room (19.0±1.2 °C, 90.7±9.3% RH) and evaluated for ten days for weight loss, firmness, total soluble solids (TSS), visual quality, stem-end rot, anthracnose, and peel color (subjective index; L*, a*, b*, chroma, and h°). Results showed that 140 µL L-1 1-MCP was able to maintain firmness and low TSS of the fruit for six days after treatment. Mango fruit treated with 1-MCP also had a better visual quality than the untreated samples until six days. 1-MCP was not able to slow down the peel color changes of the fruit but maintained the skin lightness (L*) particularly by 10 µL L-1 1-MCP for six days. 1-MCP did not affect the fruit weight loss and occurrence of latent infection such as stem-end rot and anthracnose.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133016569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, dealing with the \"New Normal\" presented difficulties for private schools. This study aims to analyze the level of acquisition in science process skills of private junior high school students and its relationship to students' academic achievement in the subject. The researchers used a convenience sampling technique and a descriptive-correlational research design for 105 students. The researchers created and content-validated an instrument for students' acquisition and academic achievement to gather the data. With the help of SPSS 23, the study used descriptive and inferential statistics. The study showed that communicating skills got the highest and measuring skills got the lowest score. In addition, the study observed significant differences in the communication skills and academic achievements of students when grouped according to gender. Furthermore, there was also a significant difference in the students' responses in measuring skills and classifying skills when grouped according to monthly household income. Finally, there was a moderately positive relationship between science process skills acquisition and academic achievement. The researchers suggested recommendations for teachers, school heads, and the institution to help improve the students' science process skills.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116445445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are 160 sample points conducted for flashflood inventory to calculate FR and the flashflood prediction weights values needed to generate the flashflood susceptibility map. The elevation, slope, aspect, curvature, topographic wetness index, drainage density, LULC, normalized difference vegetation index, and rainfall are the nine controlling factors that are selected. Results show that the areas exposed to flashflood with low, medium, and high-risk levels of susceptibility consist of 89.8, 4.4, and 5.7% of the total land, respectively, with 25 households exposed to high risk. The study determined the possible site for the evacuation center based on the spatial analysis resulting in the overlaying of different thematic map layers based on flashflood susceptibility factors. The study emphasizes the integration of the findings in the localized comprehensive land-use plan to realize the challenge of building a sustainable and hazard-resilient human community in Bukang Liwayway.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131641557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted to investigate the compliment and compliment response strategies produced by Facebook users in photo comment sections. This study used the qualitative and quantitative design in spotting and analyzing the felicity conditions of compliment and compliment response strategies produced by thirty participants. Using Zhang’s (2013) taxonomy for compliment strategies, the results showed that the most used approach in complimenting is Explicit compliment, in which the complimenters used adjectives that carry positive values. Meanwhile, using Yu’s (2004, cited in Tamimi Sa’d’, 2015) taxonomy for categorizing compliment response strategies, the Face Relationship-related Response Strategy is the most common strategy used by the complimentees in responding to the received compliments. Most of the complimentees chose not to accept, amend, or reject the compliment. Instead, they dealt with the compliment implicitly within the interaction, preferring not to directly address the prepositional content of the compliment. It was revealed that the use of strategies depends on the relationship between the complimenter and the complimentee. Their relationship may influence the kind of strategies and words the complimentees use in their responses. The social media users, as they read this study, will be aware of how compliments and compliment responses function and are structures in this online setting, which may incite them to use these two social acts more strategically.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"94 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126050428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objectives were to determine whether there are available seed sources or mother trees in the region that are resistant to gall rust, and whether gall rust infection has negative effects on the growth of Falcata. The trial (with 130 mother trees as treatments and four replications) was assessed in November 2020- or five-years following establishment in 2015. Mean percent incidence (15.0 ± 5.0% to 80.0 ± 14.1%) and severity (3.75 ± 1.25%) to 35.0 ± 16.95%) of gall rust varied significantly among treatments indicative of genetic diversity among mother trees. The incidence ranged from ‘occasional’ to ‘widespread’ while severity ranged from ‘low’ to ‘high’ with mother trees 99 (Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte) and 106 (Magsaysay, Baliangao, Misamis Occidental) emerged as the most resistant of all. Height and diameter were positively related to gall rust incidence and treatments only, although none of the mother trees with resistant traits had superior growth. There was however indication of growth and disease tolerance tradeoff where trees with higher gall rust incidence tend to grow bigger perhaps to compensate for any negative impacts from gall rust infection.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127855169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, socio-economic conditions in society are exerting significant strain on transportation infrastructure. These conditions might affect not only the transport demand and infrastructure but also the travel behavior of people. This paper aims to analyze their travel behavior and predict their response to changes in the travel environment, using recent literature on modeling travel patterns in a pandemic. It also analyzes the implications of significant factors to transport planning. Understanding and anticipating travel behavior and its impact on transportation planning in the pandemic condition is crucial in transportation modeling, making decisions, and formulating policies based on travel demands.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132594644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In response to Sustainable Development Goal #4 on Quality Education and the government's program on Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), this study aims to assess the extent of CMU in providing academic services, particularly in GIDAs in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. This study employed an online survey among CMU students and alumni supplemented with secondary data. The study applied the Geographic Information System (GIS) to generate maps and spatially analyze the data. A total of 721 students and 641 alumni responded through the online survey, with 3,594 alumni sourced out from CMU graduation programs. The study's findings revealed that the distribution of students and alumni in CMU is mostly in Bukidnon, particularly in the central and southern parts. Most of the students and alumni in Northern Mindanao are spread in non-GIDAs, although a considerable percentage is in GIDAs. For CMU to respond to GIDAs and SDG Goal #4, the University should craft scholarship programs to attract students and extend its academic services in GIDAs to provide quality education in Northern Mindanao significantly.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127406778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study was to ascertain the parents’ roles and capability as tutors in Modular-Distance Learning. This study utilized the descriptive-survey method with 240 parent respondents using purposive sampling from two public schools in the Division of Talisay City, Cebu. In addition, the researcher also used a self-made instrument which was validated to attain the purpose of this study. The gathered data from the survey was then statistically analyzed and computed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study revealed that the majority of the parents had reached the high school level. The data further uncovered that parents sometimes comply with their roles and agreed that they have at least the capabilities to serve as tutors in modular-distance learning. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference between the parent groups’ roles and capabilities as tutors. Finally, using the Pearson R correlation, the data suggest that there is no evidence that parents’ educational attainment could influence their capability as tutors. It is concluded that parents are doing their best to fulfill their roles and assist their children in these unprecedented times. Hence, educational institutions must orient parents on their significant roles in modular-distance learning modality and conduct further study on the influence of the new educational setting in the time of pandemic on parents’ relationship with their children, their struggles and challenges, and their views about the other existing learning modalities adopted by the public and private schools.","PeriodicalId":429775,"journal":{"name":"Central Mindanao University Journal of Science","volume":"931 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116196033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
