Using student survey-based method in a quantitative approach, this study distributeda set of questionnairesto gather primary data from targeted respondents. A total of 200 respondents were randomly distributed. Printed-out questionnaires were handed out, accompanied by an upcycledproduct that was builtas a real-life product. Data were also collected through completed questionnaires through the use of the Internet. The items in the questionnaire were based on the sustainability of upcycling. The data were analyzedusing Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 24. The results of the analysis showed a significant correlation between environmental, economic,and social with student acceptance. It was concluded that INASISGrantt students accepted upcyclingcan be a new method on campus to create sustainable productsthat has the potential of reducingpollution while generating side income. An additional benefit includesreducingwaste material at the landfill, when the student can use any recycled item to make some innovation that surely will give a lot of benefit and profit to those who want to make money.","PeriodicalId":429639,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Operations Management","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127010113","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Proper management of waste can help to ensure service-oriented value; thereby business and society can enjoy sustainability. From the macro perspective, it can be observed that waste is a phenomenal volume of mixed complex materials that can become useless output if one does not put into place a step of circular solution, which is recycle, reuse, and reduce (3R). However, before any of the 3R can be a success, waste must be sorted by separating them into organic vs. inorganic, and recyclablevs. unrecyclable to make the process of 3R more effective. Usually, most people are less aware or do not have enough knowledge regarding storage of their waste. This study proposes an effective and a prominent system to sort out and detect trash in an auto-waste sorting detection machine. The qualitative method will be conducted for data collection through semi-structured interviews with experts of solid waste management. This research can potentially help to improve the realization of the mandatory sourceseparation required by the Malaysian government and the implementation of Act 672 about waste separation at source and recycling in Malaysia.","PeriodicalId":429639,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Operations Management","volume":"109 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115854403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the delivery of petrol from origin to each petrol station is done daily. This distribution process concerns the management as they have to minimize the cost while maximizing the profit. Hence, this paper aims to develop a model that is able to determine the shortest path for delivery these petrol in one company in Selangor. The problem is solved using Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) approach, where the data were collected using Google Maps application. The shortest distance was attained using Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique. The solution obtained from GA was then compared with Hill Climbing technique. The results shows that GA produces better solution and could cut the distance up to 23 km. The finding of this research would help the company to reduce the cost of distributing refined fuel around Selangor.","PeriodicalId":429639,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Technology and Operations Management","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128732834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
