The proposed structure is composed of two 4-bit nested counters, two digital-logic control networks, two registers and a single decoder. Semi-dynamic logic was used for the decoder to reduce its power consumption. The system has a standard digital output and is powered by a 1.8 V supply with a total power consumption of 32.4 mW. A prototype was fabricated using a TSMC 180 nm CMOS technology. The proposed structure uses a 508 µm x 225 µm area. Digital twins have been successful in many industries, in healthcare, it can optimize the wellness of the human body to improve physical and mental wellness including the non-diagnosed diseased populations and rural populations. \u0000  In this paper, we discuss the challenges in terms of computing to implement a complex system called Wellness Digital Twin-based Remote Patient Monitoring System following Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), we present the definition, needs of the digital twin in the context of wellness and healthcare, a feasibility study followed by a concept of operations. These are provided to high school and non-engineering students by (previously trained) engineering students volunteers. The methodology proposed is designed to highlight, in different learning activities, key concepts about Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI abstractes the human intelligence processes through algorithms and computer systems, taking advantage of the amount of data generated nowadays to create innovative, effective, efficient, accurate and at low cost solutions, applied in different fields. The main purpose is to motivate the participants to explode its creativity, improving their innovation skills to provide solutions for XXI century problems, better quality of life, health, among others. A survey will be conducted for the students to find insights about effectiveness of the proposed methodology to better acquire knowledge about AI knowledge. We encourage instructors to use similar interactive hands-on methodologies and to include AI concepts with STEM activities into general education courses. Mora-Alvarado","doi":"10.18845/tm.v36i5.6413","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18845/tm.v36i5.6413","url":null,"abstract":"En el presente estudio se aborda el impacto de la crisis sanitaria causada por la COVID-19, cuyo agente causal es el virus SARS-CoV-2, en 191 países seleccionados, según la información de la plataforma virtual “datosmacro.com”. Para cumplir con el objetivo se utilizaron los indicadores de casos confirmados, muertes, letalidad y las tasas de muertes por COVID-19 por millón de habitantes.\u0000El análisis de los datos al 29/08/2022, indican que los datos de muertes absolutas por COVID-19 por país, no es el más adecuado para valorar el impacto de la crisis sanitaria en forma comparativa entre las naciones. Por su parte, las tasas de letalidad equivalentes a las muertes por COVID-19 entre el total de casos confirmados por el SARS-CoV-2, es un buen indicador, pero depende en mucha de la capacidad de los sistemas de salud de cada país.\u0000En el caso del indicador de muertes de COVID-19/millón de habitantes, a pesar de ciertas debilidades, es el mejor para valorar cuales han sido las naciones más impactadas por la COVID-19 por continentes y en el contexto mundial. Un ejemplo es la comparación entre Perú y los EUA, en donde el país Latinoamericano con una población estimada de 33.396.700 hab, con 215.514 muertes; mientras que EUA con una población de 332.183.000 hab, con 1.043.840 fallecidos, si bien es cierto es la nación con mayor cantidad de fallecidos en el mundo, su tasa de muerte asociadas a la COVID-19/millón de habitantes al 29/08/2022 era de 3.142,36, la cual era menor a la de Perú con 6.463,00. Mora-Alvarado","doi":"10.18845/tm.v36i5.6361","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18845/tm.v36i5.6361","url":null,"abstract":"El presente estudio describe, en tiempo real la evolución de la COVID-19 en trece naciones insulares de América Central, a más de dos años del inicio de la crisis sanitaria global, causada por el nuevo coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, detectado originalmente en Wuhan, China, el 17 de diciembre de 2019. La evolución descriptiva de los casos confirmados y muertes se presenta en dos etapas: la primera al 30 de octubre de 2021 y la segunda al 08 de abril de 2022. La población estimada de estos países insulares es de 29.605.675 habitantes distribuidos en forma heterogénea, en islas con más de 10 millones de habitantes en Cuba con 11.400.000 hab, Haití y República Dominicana con 11.400.000 hab. y 10.850.000 respectivamente, ubicados en la Isla La Española. Las otras naciones insulares tienen menos de 3 millones de habitantes; entre ellos: Jamaica, Trinidad y Tobago, Granada, Santa Lucía, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominica, San Vicente y Granadinas, San Cristóbal y Nieves. En las tres naciones se han presentado 2.206.567 contagios confirmados con 22.472 fallecidos para una letalidad promedio de 1,02%. Los países con más contagios y muertes son Cuba y República Dominicana. Mora-Alvarado","doi":"10.18845/tm.v36i5.6360","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.18845/tm.v36i5.6360","url":null,"abstract":"Se presenta en este estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo y analítico, sobre la influencia o impacto de la inmigración de las personas extranjeras en la evolución de la pandemia causada por la COVID-19, cuyo agente etiológico en el nuevo coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Los datos diarios de casos confirmados totales de costarricenses y extranjeros, demuestra que el regreso de las personas nicaragüenses, provenientes de su patria, después del periodo de la Semana Santa-05/04/2020 al 11/04/2020, incrementó el número de casos a partir de los meses de junio, julio, agosto de 2020. Para efectos prácticos en este estudio preliminar se analizan los datos que van desde el 10/03/2020 al 01/08/2020. Por otro lado, como autor de este estudio, considero conveniente acotar que el mismo se elaboró con el propósito de resaltar la importancia de la inmigración en la atención de la medicina preventiva y su vinculación luego, con la medicina curativa.
